What people don’t realize about the rules is there was way more defensive players for the most of the leagues history. There really wasn’t a surge of offensive players until the last like 15 years, so naturally it’s gonna seem like the rules favor the offense because players are doing offensive stuff that wasn’t seen in the past.

Not Malik Monk, not Harrison Barnes, not Keegan Murray. He would be the third option on that team. Same if we look at the Lakers. Besides AD and LeBron, nobody on that team is better than Devin Vassell. He'd be the third option there too.

Before changing any rules, I want them to implement the rules we already have. Moving screens turn defense from difficult to impossible. Also, I am not really a fan of removing the defensive 3 seconds. I believe it would just completely kill non shooting big men. 3s would go even higher and scores would be very swingy. I am more of a fan of making it 5-7 seconds instead. That read is a valuable skill imo, and making it longer would incentivize playing slower.

Cavs: Larry Nance (you guys mentioned him but he is one of the greatest defenders of the 80s/early 90s. he averaged 3 blocks guarding guys like nasty man, chuck, scottie, danny manning, and larry johnson
Knicks: Dave DeBusschere (a name casuals dont know, the second star to walt frazier back in the knicks championship years and was averaging 12 boards at 6-6 in an era with kareem, bill russell and wilt. also his nickname was BIG D!)

They should stop allowing moving screens. Basically, really great perimeter defenders' impact has been severely limited in one-on-one situations. Great ISO guys are just hunting matchups and there's no fighting through or avoiding the screens cause screeners just move into you. You can basically get a mismatch by running your guy through screens on every possession. This basically forces heliocentric offenses run through guards to adapt and actually run plays to get an advantage. No more endless PnR which a big chunk of them turns into a ISO.

Changing the 3 seconds on the paint to 7 seconds will make the game worse. It will make rim protection way better so teams will shoot more making it worse. Hand checking should be back making it harder to shoot 3 thus more slow tempo to make defense great again.
