FINALLY....a collage quilt tutorial for beginners that is clear and concise without a plethora of unnecessary side comments. This was very helpful.
THANK YOU
So glad the video was helpful! Collage quilting is fun!
Ohhhh thanks miss Julia. I am going to make an applique quilt but this stuff...steam a seam 2 had me hoodoodled. I am 74 so many times I need to read or watch stuff umpteen times. I want to use this cuz it's going to help my pieces stay in place for where they need to be. And im going to be collaging a few smaller splotches of color too so it's a mixture of different ideas. It's à sewing wall hanging. Sewing machine in center, sewing implements floating about all over the quilt. All cut out from different fabrics and scraps added to tweak the interest in our minds. Lol ok nuff said. You really helped me get it all together lady of the quilting world. Ha. Hugs J
.
Steam a seam 2 is a great product! Happy sewing!
The Longhorn looks great, and the process to make it is very interesting
I do similar quilts. Finishing one now for my 4 yo granddaughter’s wall. 😊
You explained this so well. I have wanted to do this for years.
You'll have to give it a try. It's so much fun and doesn't take as long as it looks. Thanks for watching, Julia
I always love your projects. You're so inspiring!
My kinfolk in Arkasas raise and sell longhorn! How fun!!! I'm going to save this video for when I have more time! What a cool gift that would make for them! ❤❤❤
Hi Brenda, It would be a cool gift! Thanks for watching, Julia
Beautiful, Julia. I have my FM accessories ordered and breathlessly await their arrival! Meanwhile, I am getting inspiration from you and other artists. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge.
Your artistry is great!
I used to live in Texas, when my Grandson saw long horned cattle, he called them “ long horned moo cows” ! I have loved your channel for years now- loved all the jackets made from sweatshirts! 😊
So nice!👍🏻🙏
This is so lovely!! I really like your design and combo of fabrics, and your collage is just gorgeous, I can almost see a facial expression on the longhorn. And it does look like a lot of fun, so I am gonna hafta try a project like this. Thank you so much for sharing your talent! And I know just what you mean about the compliment from your husband! Usually all I get is a "nice" or a nod from my husband (it's those Midwestern genes, they can't express much emotion), so if he really likes it and wants to keep it, it's such high praise!!
Yep- those Midwestern genes! Salt of the earth but very little emotion...thanks so much for watching, Julia
Awesome...your husband has good taste ty for sharing
Thank you so much 😊
You are so very welcome
Love it thank you Julia 🌻
I love it Julia!
Thanks so much! Julia
I love the collage method for the longhorn! I would hang it on my wall too!❤
Thanks so much for watching! Julia
Bravo it turned out beautiful! Thank you❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Good Morning Julia, it’s been my pleasure to follow your progress ❣️ over the years, always Fun. This looks beautiful. I haven’t done collage quilting yet. I have bought a few of Elizabeth Hartman patterns, they have a ton of pieces so I don’t think I’ll get to any of them this year. Ya never know, I might surprise myself. I hope you are having a wonderful winter. Take Care, Chris-Raleigh area NC
Hi Chris, It's also good hearing from you. Thanks for sticking with me over the years- can't believe how long I've been doing this! Your support means a lot! Julia
Thus is amazing ! I'm going to try this with a horse photo!
Yes- great idea!
Nice project! Using a silicone ma, the type we bake with, works great too and allows the appliqué to release quite easily. The mat, of course is a clean one. Never used in the oven.😊
Great hint- thanks for sharing and watching!
University of Austin Hook 'em horns!
❤this is my favorite of all!❤ so fun and perfect!❤
Hi, I really like this design too. I've been adding it to thrifted jean jackets. Thanks so much for watching!
Julia! That’s gorgeous! ❤❤❤
Julia!!! How cool is that!!! How exciting!!! This longhorn turned out so well! I've wanted for so long to learn how to collage a favorite picture of my Dad. This video gives me inspiration to try collage work. Like you, I will probably start with something simple. Once I get the hang of it, I can delve into more advanced projects. (From Valerie in Moline, IL again. I always look forward to your videos.)
Doing a collage quilt of your Dad would be so cool. The hardest part is shading. I'm learning. It is so fun, I hope you give it a try.
@stitchesbyjulia Hi Julia. I'll have to let you know when I try collage. Right now, I'm focused on a Slow Stitching project with the Roxy girls, "Down the Garden Path." Have you heard of it? Lots of fun.
I love this
Thank You.. This idea is endless...
Hi, I agree. There are so many possibilities. Some collage quilters are so good at shading and picking the right fabrics etc. I just enjoy the process. Thanks so much for watching! Julia
That is so cool!
Hi Julia! Another beautiful piece, you make the process look so easy to do. Thanks again for sharing your art with us.
Another great one Julia. Thanks for sharing.
very nice!
Love it ❤
Thanks for watching! Julia
Wow!! Absolutely stunning and so unique 👍👍
Thank you so much 😊
I live in the panhandle of Texas. Lots of longhorns around here. I love your quilt
Really loved the video and learnt so much. So inspiring. Thanks Julia x
Hi, I'm so glad you enjoyed this project. I'm really enjoying collage quilting.
Great job!
USPS international shipping is ridiculous. I just checked for another subscriber- $26.35!!! More than the cost of the kit. Thanks so much for watching ...Julia
Julia I really like your first attempt at collage. I think it would have shown up better on a different background.
Hi, I agree on the background. Fabric choice is so important. Thanks for watching, Julia
Hi Julia, I love this too ! A great project to have, I would be happy to have this on my wall any time. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks you so much for watching. I'm really enjoying collage quilting.
Thanks a lot for sharing this Julia! I really enjoyed this as I love collaging. I usually use heat n bond but as you say, it’s got a bit of a plastic feel and it stiffens the fabric quite a lot, though it’s really good for wear. I will have to try to find ”steam a seam” here in Sweden!
Hi, I use the heat-n-bond lite for many of my projects also. Steam-a-Seam2 is nice because it's tacky ( you can reposition it) and it feels softer after steaming. However it is pricey. Also, I can get Heat-n-Bond locally, Steam-a-Seam2 is harder to get. Give it a try if you have the chance- it is fun to work with. Thanks so much for watching, Julia
I absolutely love this one. You did a great job with it. Not that I would use cattle, I'd probably do a butterfly or flower arrangement in it. Love the colors. I started out doing a bulldog for my cousin since he just got one because of the Georgia bulldogs. His name is Champ, but have not finished it yet. It's a bit challenging.
Fabric choice is the hardest and getting the correct shading. A dog would be fun. I hope to do more in 2023. Thanks so much for watching. Julia
Great technique that goes by many names and you do it so well. But being from Texas, those horns are too short! We'd have to applique that the opposite direction to balance them out. Thank you for sharing, Love the way you free motion!
Yes , my visit to Texas, I saw some long horns, they are massive.
Love it. I did your llama a few years ago but glue was involved right? Not steam a seam.
Hi Susan. Correct- I did the llama with Heat-n-Bond lite and used the glue. I use the glue method for many of my smaller designs. The heat-n-bond is considerable less expensive and I can get it locally. Steam a Seam2 is pricey but so wonderful to work with because it is tacky- no glue necessary. Thanks so much for watching, Julia
Another awesome project. This looked like so much fun. I have to try it. Can I use freezer paper if I don’t have parchment? Just wondering if it works the same way? Thank you for sharing. 🙋🏻♀️ very cool project.
I don’t think freezer paper will work. It won’t press or peel off as needed.
@@stitchesbyjulia thank you. I get confused by all the different papers to use for collage quilting. Love your inspiring videos. 🙋🏻♀️
I love collage quilting, but don’t care for quilting it at the end. I find my thread breaks my needles break and I have a lot of frustration there. I’m wondering if I’m not steaming my fabric enough. I’ve only made three projects and it’s fun but I don’t like the quilting part.
Hi, I''m not sure what is happening. If your thread is breaking, you may have a burr or rough spot on your throat plate. Maybe try a larger needle. It could also be that your tension is too tight. Hope some of this helps, I know how frustrating it can be.
Hi, bought this directly from your CZcams channel and now can't download it in?
Hi, Did you purchase it from Etsy? I can email you the files. What is your email?
Where in Minnesota are you located?
Hi, Detroit Lakes
do you know the name of the flower fabric?
Hi, I recently picked it up at Hobby Lobby. It doesn't have a pattern number but it is a 2021 Brother Sister Design Studio print. Thanks so much for watching, Julia
