This is a silent shave (other than the soothing sounds of the beardage being removed) where you can follow along and duplicate the technique (pull the same faces) or fine tune it to suit yourself. Lockhart’s Goon Grease (made in USA) is lathered up in the Shave Nation Indestructabowl using a Proraso Boar shaving brush. Finished up with the Shave Nation Wide Stick alum block and Proraso aftershave balm. The result is a baby smooth shave. I’m just here for the sideburn sound effects.
The problem remains: the high price, the accompanying tools (strop, water stones , pastes, etc !! including hard work), and finally with that you rarely get the perfect sharpness. The double-edged blades and safety razors is a blessing from God!
Most challenging tasks come at a price and require perseverance if you want to master them...
I guess it was a little easier for me beings I already had stones and understood how to sharpen, but I'm less than a month into straight razor shaving and aren't having any trouble. The first week was a little rough learning how to maneuver the razor. My very first edge I put on a $15 Gold Dollar shaved really well.
One other thing, knives are 100 times harder to sharpen than razors. You have to hold the angle with a knife, the spine doesn't do it for you.

Do you ever have problems from not stretching? Did you do any stropping before first use? I want to get a Dovo at some point, I’ve been using a razor I found at an antique store that I honed and stopped the crap out of. Sharper than all my other disposables now. 🤯 I can only imagine from a reputable company, with known steel, and.. new, I’m excited.
Geo, i ordered Tobs peppermint & grapefruit 5.3 oz tubs. Should the tub be filled to top or 3/4? My peppermint is full but grapefruit is 3/4 full & both r brand new. Please help me!!
Hi, would you say there’s a minimum amount of cream you should have on your face? In other words, how important is a thick application of shaving cream?
I still don't have the nerve to try a straight. I've purchased a shavette and "tried" to use it, but couldn't go through with it.
My grain is the total opposite of yours Geo. First pass I can visualise but not any subsequent passes
A barber would tell you to just follow your grain and comfort level. If your grain isn’t the same as his, just do yours. Then with subsequent passes as you get comfortable with your hair and skin you can worry about going diagonal with the grain, or across the grain, and IF your skin/hair combo can tolerate it against.
Now imagine doing this on whoever walks in and asks for it. 🤣💈🤘
