Update on the frozen head unit in my 4Runner.

I stopped at two separate dealerships today.
Dealership #1 said they see it all the time and can hook it up to diagnose for $125. Not sure what can be done to fix it, may need to be replaced, and money ma be better spent on a nice aftermarket unit.
Dealership #2 said it wasn't worth hooking up to anything as they couldn't do anything if the head unit wouldn't boot up. Did say an update often fixes some issues but can't update without it booting to the update screen. He suggested I take my money down the road to the stereo shop for something aftermarket.
Long story short, thanks to one of you wonderful subscribers I have an OEM head unit out of their vehicle on its way to me. They upgraded and sold it to me for a very fair price. Hopefully next week it is here and I can install it to have some tunes back.

This happened to me too. i had to unplug the battery and plug again. Radio started it just fine. Good luck

Mine would freeze and also constantly reboot when I would be on any on ramp to get on the freeway. Very bizarre. By accident I found out the cause even after the dealer was clueless. It was the SD Card used for navigation. It was a slightly loose fit in the slot and when I removed it all my problems vanished but then so did my GPS capabilities. I’m going to try wrapping some scotch tape around the SD Card to see if it holds it in place better. But it’s the SD Card causing my issues.
