A lifetime of experience and ingenuity will make her a masterpiece.
What a brilliant man!
Love these vids Louis! Furniture maker myself yet I learn something new every episode - always a pleasure to watch a consummate master at work.
I really enjoy your teaching style. You state the objective, tell us how to do it and why, then demonstrate getting the job done. Makes it look so easy anyone could do it. I think I'll practice doing a scarf joint in the morning. Thanks
I look forward to these videos more than any other content on this platform, hands down.
Brilliant. Always a pleasure to watch Lou share his knowledge.
I wish these videos were hours long... so peaceful and satisfying to watch and learn
Lou, you really need a apprentice or two. Your knowledge base really needs to be preserved. Keep up the craftsmanship, very good and useful information with awesome presentation.
Yet again you've taught me something valuable, Lou. I simply love watching you work. It's not every day one gets to watch a master craftsman at work.
I always enjoy your work, just wish it could be more often!!!!
Finally someone who does a proper top but step scarf. All these other ones doing a full angled scarf that has a great potential to splinter the visible edge can't be told the difference. yet many feathered scarfs splinter over time. great to see someone with actual experienced skills that can reason things out.
Man that bandsaw sounds sweeeet! 👌🏻
Your scarfes made right video is a whole another animal from the average scharfes made easy story.
in vocational school i haď the good fortune of having a mentor by the name of bill griffen.who who no dought had the same aproch to solving problems that you didnt see coming. i so wish ì could back .to hear his words wisdom
Always brightens my day to see a new Lou video! Really like the rabbet plane technique; would not have thought of it. And wouldn’t you know? I don’t have one - so bonus day here, I get a new tool!
Love to see good craftmanship!
Born to teach! Your narration is spot on and very understandable. Keep up the good videos.
I always do end grain fine tuning with a 36 grit or 50 grit disc on a grinder. Fast, Smooth. Never snags or tears end grain. Loud. Offends purists. Checks all the boxes.
It seems like you are preparing for resorcinol when you're planning on using epoxy. Your professionalism and attention to detail is an inspiration.
These videos should be titled, "Things that Lou does that you can't".
Wonderful tips for current and future shipwrights, thank you Lou.
I can't wait to see Louis face when gets to sail this beast.
What a wonderful display of an almost lost Art.
Amazing work once again, Lou!
Thank you Lou for the scarf demonstration on the cap rails. That is a fantastic fit.
Outstanding work as always. Thank you.
Ingenuity at it's best. Thanks Lou.
I would pay Louis to work for him.
I bow to your talent, yes I do
Awesome skill, so exited for ORCA build,
Beautiful woodworking!
I sometimes recover barrel wood. To cut it, i use a two piece ramp out of wood i made that clamps on top of the saw table which has the curvature of the wood i'm cutting. It also has a fence on the side. Kinda allows me to not think much about cutting my pieces, just focus on clean cuts.
thank Lou, wow on the saw and scarf fit long.
Now I want to find a rabbit plane, LOL. I only started collecting and using planes after watching Lou.
🐰
Great work, looks fabulous!
I always learn from your videos. I’ve built a couple of boats but nothing close to what you do. Thanks
This is such a cool project, it's so informative. and entertaining!!
Thats some handy work.
Very nice I know it is not easy but it is not furniture. What I really like is the craft, no jigs you can pay $20 for a plan, just pencil a baton and patience. It shows it is possible, the skill is not taking a day for each joint.
Genius with experience.
Have you videod how you sharpen your planes and chisels?
Fourth comes forth for more tips!
Wouldn't the joint have been tight on the scarf joint if you had taken a japanese saw and cut the joint of the two boards together?
what happened to Orca project?
What model rabbit plane is that? Can you please provide a link? Thank you, love your videos!
Wonderful craft, Lou. I love watching your skill and technique. I was just wondering, is that not a shoulder plane, with the big flat sides to guide the cutting of tenon shoulders? Small point, but I thought I would mention it. Thanks for the excellent video.
It is indeed a shoulder plane
I’m wondering if you could have just done a half lap joint and skip the whole slope thing?
Orca is next up.
🐰✈️
Dude ? I don't know who you think you are you are ? However your not ! 👇
