How we made our Jiu Jitsu mats

  • This is the process we used to mat the training area here at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Decatur. If you're looking to make your own mats, I can tell you that we were really happy with them for about 4 years before they started showing the first signs of wear. That's when we decided to add the old mats over the top.

    Once you see the old dude on the job site. You know it's going to be on point.

    Vinyl is the way to go! It doesn't rip the skin off your feet like some expensive brands ands there is no separation for dirt and hair to build up in. You can sometimes get vinyl cheaper from a tractor trailer company🤙

    How is it with stand up? Too slippery? Thinking about outfitting my dojo with this on my old mats

    Hey Brandon how are you fastening the vinyl down where no one's catching a staple or nail on the mat? Looks amazing, I'm thinking of doing the same thing at my spot

    • @brandonmcninja

      Staple the vinyl and sandwich between the boards. That’ll pull it way tighter too

    Does anyone know how are the vinyl mats for standing and striking? I have rolled on a vinyl top like this before and it was either very sticky at first or very slick. I did not get a chance to practice any rotations with kicking or punching. Just curious on thoughts if anyone has any. Thanks!

    I've been watching your arm triangle videos on youtube quite a bit recently, so I'm curious if you have any comments on the arm triangle attempt at 5:10, in terms of why it failed?

    • @chickasawmike1319
      @chickasawmike1319 Před 2 lety +1

      I do not think it failed, he was taking it easy on his partner or teaching something. Brandon could have tapped him several times.

    • @brandonmcninja
      @brandonmcninja  Před 2 lety +2

      I wouldn’t say it failed at all. He made a reaction that made it easier to switch to something else, so that’s a no brainer. Take the easy play. The arm triangle funneled him right in

    • @jinxit
      @jinxit Před 2 lety

      @@brandonmcninja so if your partner brings up their free hand up, do you usually transition from arm triangle to some "s-mount variation"?

    • @brandonmcninja
      @brandonmcninja  Před 2 lety

      Yeah go through my mount course on the site and I lay out all the paths for you

    • @TopLevelJiuJitsu
      @TopLevelJiuJitsu Před 2 lety +1

      Not a failure at all. Beautiful transition that happened under threat of a different submission. He is under a huge dilemma at the time: do nothing and tap, turn away and give up the back, turn in and give up the s-mount... Beautifully funneled him to a modified stockade shoulder lock.

    Hi Brandon, We are going to offer Jiu Jitsu at our school and I have been searching for mats to use. We do not have a dedicated space for the class so they will need to be setup and put away when we have class. Could you provide me with some recordations?
