BNSF and DGNO action on the TRE line - 2/18/18 // Trinity Rail Productions

- Amtrak and TRE trains might be the staple of the Trinity Railway Express mainline between Dallas and Fort Worth, TX, but this video will show that there's still a lot to see even when passenger trains aren't running.
BNSF freight trains coming onto and off of the Madill Subdivison take the TRE to or from Dallas or Fort Worth. Genesee & Wyoming shortline Dallas, Garland, & Northeastern operates locals and transfers along the line, working mostly out of the railroad's Mockingbird Yard located roughly at MP 638.5 on the TRE.
On a cloudy Sunday afternoon, I headed to the Norwood Rd. grade crossing at the west end of Mockingbird to see if anything was going on. As soon as I got there, a pair of DGNO gensets came into view. The crew had been sent out to retrieve a few cars, so they wasted no time in pulling through the crossing, throwing a switch, and backing down the yard lead.
A few minutes later, an eastbound BNSF manifest freight arrived on the scene, sporting a Fakebonnet Dash 9 in the trailing position. The train had to stop because a westbound DGNO freight that was entering the yard at the east end was occupying the single track bridge over 35E. Meanwhile, the DGNO crew from earlier had located the cars they needed, so they headed west out of the yard. A few minutes later, the second DGNO train had pulled into the yard and dropped its cars. The motive power, SD40M-2s #3416 and #3419, pulled through the crossing, reversed direction, and headed to the yard office to tie up.
That concludes about 45 minutes of railfanning on the TRE line - and I didn't even see a single passenger train. Even on Sundays when the TRE isn't running, there's still plenty of action to watch!
0:00 Light DGNO power - DGNO 143 (RP20BD), DGNO 142 (RP20BD)
1:52 Eastbound BNSF manifest freight - BNSF 7215 (ES44DC), BNSF 792 (Dash 9-44CW), BNSF 7865 (ES44DC)
3:51 DGNO train from earlier departing Mockingbird
5:06 DGNO train/light power - DGNO 3416 (SD40M-2), DGNO 3419 (SD40M-2)
Thanks for watching!

Wait dgno 143 that is the train I saw on Denton road dallas tx
Are there ever any instances where BNSF trains will use the wye in Irving to go westbound from the Madill sub towards Fort Worth, or is everything west of Irving strictly TRE and Amtrak?
Nice Video! I love the K5LAs that the DGNO gensets have.
Thanks! They've always been some of my favorite horns too.
Very good filming! DGNO seems to be a interesting railroad, do they interchange with BNSF at all?
Thanks! They do interchange with BNSF in Irving and Sherman, TX and they also interchange with UP and KCS. Here's a bit more info: www.gwrr.com/railroads/north_america/dallas_garland_northeastern_railroad#m_tab-one-panel
The TX Eagles won’t be back to DFW till March 10th because they changed directions to get to their Final Destinations
I like how the Genset engines ride on recycled EMD style Blumberg trucks
It is a very good use for parts that would otherwise be scrapped.
Trinity Rail Productions I agree
Was this filmed from the East or West side of Mockingbird yard, I’d like to go there next time I’m in the area.
This was the west end at the Norwood grade crossing. Be sure to park in the lot at the southwest corner of the crossing. DGNO doesn't like people parking in the lot to the southeast of Norwood.
Nice video, if you ever get the chance and time, come check out Dallas Intermodal Terminal.. I work nights as of now on the ground/training for engineer. Lots of action at night, little to no action on days, but most of the time you'll get to see older MP SD40-2s working the yard.
Thanks! I've been to DIT during the day but it was pretty quiet like you said. That's neat that you're working there now, have you been enjoying it so far?
Well let's just say I got certified as a groundsman in under 90 days it was somewhere around 40, so I definitely picked it up quick. Now I'm training for engineer which I think I've got it down with just 40 hours put into it, but my boss has said to go ahead and get all 80 for the certification. I'm going in later tonight to train and hopefully there's a lot to do because I absolutely love it. Love doing both the ground and engineer. For sure love to blow the horn, some may call me horny lol. Definitely if you've got the time and floodlight come check out DIT at night we are always busy during the night. Building multiple trains, switching out tracks or taking in inbounds.
Sounds fun!
