  • In June 1966, The Who's co-manager Chris Stamp filmed the group up on the roof and in Pete Townshend's flat on the top floor of 87 Wardour Street in Soho, London. The interview lasted for approximately 20 minutes and this five-minute segment was intended for broadcast later in the year in the US on ABC TV's 'Where The Action Is' but it was never ever shown. The live clips towards the end include footage of the group at the 6th National Jazz & Blues Festival in Windsor, 30 July 1966. A couple of brief clips from this film were included in the 1979 documentary 'The Kids Are Alright'.

It’s funny to see how their personalities changed through the years, Keith seemed so calm and reserved in this interview and Roger obviously had a chip on his shoulder and seemed like he played the tough guy. Pete was more light hearted and of course John doesn’t say a word as usual.

    • @dajdools8834

Roger was the tough guy. As a matter of fact, he got the lead job because he was a tough guy and the others simply were not. Sure, later on Pete tried to be the tough guy, but we all know about him throwing his fists around and 'preaching from his chair'. They are all bad arse, in my book. The WHO rules...

Tough guy Roger was a bad mother F'er. He didn't do drugs and he didn't drink. He got kicked out of the band for putting all of the drugs down the toilet. He punched Keith Moon in the face so they kicked him out of the band. But I have been a big a big WHO fan. I was reading that Roger would not take any SHIT. He would just punch people in the face. So acting like a tough guy it's not an act.

Pete) seemed to have that self-effacing sense of humor going, like they're winking at you and saying "we don't take ourselves too seriously here". Revolver wasn't put out until August 1966 and Where The Action Is was cancelled in March or April 1967, so that's possibly why this didn't make the cut. Persnickety about specific dates - I know. I coulldn't help noticing "Revolver" L.P. in front of his vinyl collection left up on the screen shot.I don't believe this is random, minding that Pete knew for this broadcast in advance.Anyway ,this means that apart from a great mucisian he always had a good taste in music.

Colour footage exists of Bath Pavillion from 10/11/66. Theres a very brief clip on the Michael Caine "My Generation" documentary film about the 1960s. Malvern Winter Gardens 21/6/66 was also filmed by CBS but probably just as part of another 'swinging London' documentary and not a whole gig.

@@JZen_25 No but you can rent or buy the Caine documentary. It’s about 7 seconds high resolution colour film of Bath. Again probably another ‘Swinging London’ program and not a Who centred project.
