M. Night Shyamalan's risky self-financing run continues with 'Trap' | AP interview

  • M. Night Shyamalan has been at least partly self-financing his films since 2015's "The Visit," risking his own money on box office success. His latest is "Trap," starring Josh Hartnett as a father with a secret and Shyamalan's daughter Saleka as a pop star whose concert is surrounded by police looking to capture a serial killer. Shyamalan spoke with AP entertainment editor Ryan Pearson about his high-risk, high-reward, lower-budget filmmaking approach, guiding his daughters' artistic pursuits - and his philosophy that "talent is process." #trapmovie #mnightshyamalan #movies

Basically he hasn't sold out to Hollywood. Very rare for a filmmaker in the system.

Night is such a unique filmmaker, his stories are unlike anything else Hollywood spits out. Simply adore this man's movies. One of the greats. And I'll take that to the grave.

I think it's so cool that no matter anyone thinks of Shyamalan, the will he has to spend millions of his own money making the movies he wanted to make is extremely cool. Would be great to see other filmmakers follow the path he has.

He’s financing his own movies. Ballsy. Of course, he owns them so if they’re successful he benefits from it long term.

$45-50 Million dollars is a modest budget for a film? Does that include P&A too? This guy is living in Lala land if he thinks anything over 10M is a modest budget. I do love his enthusiasm for filmmaking and maybe 3 of his films at most.
