    • Every Setting in the A...
    In this episode I explain every setting in the Autel Explorer App for the Evo. This is the current version of the app v1.0.0.5 as of 9/802018, which provides additional features over previous versions of the Autel Explorer app that you see covered on other channels. The version used for this video is for the Android, but iOS users will find the information is virtually the same for their use.
    This episode wll help every Autel Evo pilot, from the beginner drone pilot to the experienced flyer. In this Autel Evo tutorial I'll explain each setting and offer my suggestions on what options you should choose to get the most out of your drone flying, including
    - Aircraft settings - calibration, safety settings, obstacle avoidance, etc.
    - Camera screen - screen display features like histogram, centerpoint, over exposure warning, video encoding format and more
    - Camera parameters - piv, auto versus manual, color profiles, styles and digital zoom, etc.
    If you watch this episode you will understand every setting available on your Autel Evo drone, with a clear explanation of how to pick the best camera settings and safety settings to fit your needs.
    This is the most detailed tour of the Autel Explorer app settings that I've found, covering the most current version of the app as of 9/9/2018. If you're new to flying drones, this espisode will be invaluable to help you fly your Autel Evo drone safely and successfully. Even experienced drone pilots will benefit from this tutorial that explains the Autel Explorer app settings.
    My previous episode provided you with a guided tour of the Autel Explorer app. In that tutorial I introduce you to every status, meter and number displayed by the app. If you're new to flying drones, this espisode will be invaluable to help you fly your Autel Evo drone safely and successfully. That video is linked here.

    Another great episode, Jeff.
    Without your videos I would never have learned how to do a firmware update or fly the Yuneec Typhoon H successfully.
    Now I’m looking to add a more portable drone to my stable.

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  Před 6 lety +1

      You've got some great options to choose from for portable drones. I'm a big fan of the Evo, and I've been really impressed with the Mavic Air as well. I'm still tinkering with the Anafi but I like a lot of the features it has as well. If you're flying the H you may want to look at the Mavic 2 . . . they're pricey but they offer a lot of capabilities.
      Anything in particular you're looking for it to do?

    • @RonDonson
      @RonDonson Před 6 lety +1

      Jeff Sibelius I would love to get a portable drone with a 1” sensor. I’m hoping Autel will eventually makes good on their promise of a 1” sensor for the EVO. The Mavic Pro 2 looks interesting but to be honest I’m not a DJI fan.
      Recently released drones are a challenge since they generally let the first wave or two of pilots be their beta testers. They are usually reliable after 3-6 months of firmware updates. Just my opinion though.

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  Před 6 lety +1

      I can't argue with any of that.
      Other than the Mavic 2 Pro I think it's going to be awhile before we see another foldable drone with a 1" sensor, unfortunately. The EVO is still really new, particularly for Autel Robotics - they just don't release drones that often. Same for Parrot and Yuneec.
      I did see a big version of the Anafi on display in Europe. Check out the video of On the Kitchen Table here czcams.com/video/40Vs0_Ve2iQ/video.html - no information about this drone so I don't know what its sensor will be, but it is intriguing!

    Thank you so much. I have been flying my new EVO in nervous Novice mode for a week and bombarding Autel with questions that you have answered in this video. Their own manuals and videos are factual without being explanatory so I think they should add your tutorial to their CZcams channel so that newbies can at least understand what all those settings mean. I am loving my EVO but I need to improve my knowledge and skills - especially to get to the Holy Grail of smooth yaws and tilts. Subscribed.

Otherwise you'll have a DU Recorder icon on your screen. You can also record your audio this way as you record the screen.

    I am an Evo owner, and having used it for a while, have some comments. But first, THANK YOU for this detailed video.
    My first comment/quesiton is about the HOME setting. You said home can be set for Me or the drone. But I wonder what that means. Does it mean whereever I happen to be at the moment. like if I move from the original takeoff point, will it find my new position? Same with the "drone position" What does that mean? Does it mean that wherever the drone might be at the moment it will go home at that position? This is confusing.
    Second comment/question is about your choice of 4K. Why did you not choose 4K plus? Some technical reason?
    Third, I wonder why obstacle avoidance can only be turned on in novice mode. I would prefer to have that on in all modes!
    Finally, do you know of a way to program the buttons on the bottom of the controller? Autel says those are "programmable", but I don't have a clue how. I can think of several things I would like to do with those buttons, like zooming for instance.
    Any answers to my questions are much appreciated, and if anyone reading this has some answers, I would love to hear from you too!

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  Před 4 lety

      I'll try to answer a lot of your questions when I do the update on this video - a couple things:
      I'll have to go back and listen to what I said regarding home point - I need some context to understand your question.
      4K+? I'm not familiar with that. Are you talking about 4096x2160 resolution as compared to 3840x2160? I choose 3840x2160 because it works out to be 16x9 aspect ratio, which is what all my cameras are shooting at. So it's a matter of consistency. But you could shoot at 4096x2160 instead - you could then move your video up and down a little while outputting to 1920x1080. That would give you a little flexibility in post production. (I'm doing this from memory - is it 4096? 4092? Something like that.)
      REAR obstacle avoidance works only in novice mode. In regular mode, forward obstacle avoidance works and I think the rear sensors give you a warning only. (don't hold me to that, I haven't tested it in awhile.) But my point was that the rear obstacle avoidance only works in novic mode.
      I don't know about the buttons on the bottom. I don't believe there is a way to program them yet - unless it was built into a later version of the app.

      @@JeffSibelius At about 19:50 in the video you promise to talk more about "AE Lock"

    • @moodberry
      @moodberry Před 4 lety

      @@JeffSibelius 4K+ is shown at 17:15 in video, but you didn't choose it. Yes, its 4096 x 2160. I do understand why you chose standard 4K for the aspect ratio reason. That makes sense. Not sure where 4K+ would be used. Big screen theaters maybe?
      I suppose rear obstacle is only engaged in novice because of the speed limiting factor. The rear sensors are different than the front ones and probably can't respond quickly enough at higher speeds.
      The home point question is still lingering in my mind. If home point is chosen as being the drone, what does that really mean? Is it constantly changing the home point as it flies to be where ever it happens to be when you order it to "go home"? But if I choose "me" as home point, and then I walk away from where the takeoff point was, does the drone try to land wherever I am controlling the drone from? Or, is it using the original takeoff coordinates? Really confused on this question.

    YOu mentioned gimbal mode/fpv and said it lets you do pitch and roll. However, I notice that when I choose FPV mode and use goggles, all I see is the pitch as I move my head. So, if I choose fpv mode here, will it also yaw and roll the drone as I turn my head? In other words, will the accelerometer in my fpv goggles control the drone's views? By default, I see that it only controls the pitch of the camera, but I'm wondering if it will also control things so that if I look left or right the drone will respond by turning itself. Haven't experimented yet, so I don't know.

    • @moodberry
      @moodberry Před 4 lety

      Answering my own question here....The only thing FPV view does is allows me to look up and down and it conrols the camera pitch. But it will not look left/right (yaw) if I turn my head.

    I know this is an old video, but I have a question. How do you compose a 4:3 photo on the 16:9 screen? I just realized that the shots I composed on the screen are cut off (of course) .
    Is there a 4:3 overlay somewhere that I'm not finding...so that you can see how your photo will look?

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  Před 5 lety

      You know, I never shoot still images and I always shoot 16:9 so I never dealt with this situation. I would expect the evo to leave black bars along the sides of the screen when switching to 4:3 because of the more square shape to the aspect ratio, or for it to do what I think you're describing - to crop the top and bottom of the image so the image extends the full width of the screen. Is that what you're saying?
      I'll have to boot up the evo and try it out this evening. Right now I'm unaware of any overlay or setting to change how the Evo displays a 4:3 image but I'll check it out.

      @@JeffSibelius Thanks for the reply. I guess what I'm saying is, if you compose your still shot on the 16:9 screen, your photo isn't going to be what you want.
