    Water pump drive broke, engine head and barrel overheated (no circulation),soft plug blow out by steam pressure, soft plug fell into cam drive locking it all up. Run time after freeze plug came asunder unknown.

      That’s exactly the order I suspected based on the teardown!

    Eric over at I Do Cars is a legend. Great to see you following his format with the bike engine. It is also like watching an Allen Millyard video in reverse.

    Great video Robot! I have watched "I do cars" for a while now and really like it. You did a great job keeping things moving and interesting with valuable comments. I have a 09 Aprilia Scarabeo 500 and have been having a surprising amount of fun with it. I have had all kinds of bikes in my past, but have found the fun of scooters. I also have 2 Yamaha Majesty 400's that I commute with. Anyway, love what you do and enjoy your videos, thanks for sharing with us!

    Thanks for posting. A bit of an unusual one, but interesting all the same. This does add weight (If ever it was needed, ) to the manufacturers advice to keep up with the regular oil changes on an internal combustion engine. (Motor.) With regular servicing, these things can last a lifetime. Only this morning I saw a 1966 Honda 250 motorcycle pass me on the road, that has been in regular use since new. Forget the proper servicing regime and that drops to just a few thousand miles!

    I think you are correct, the sprag reached it's maximum operating range. I'd hazard a guess a high speed down hill overwound it. Keeping in mind water/coolant when hydro locked acts like a solid. With no water pump it overheated until something locked up the cam gear chain and it threw itself off the cliff.... I'd call this abuse, not a defect.

      A guy in my area, many years ago. Bought a new
      Honda C102, he was always riding this bike hard. One day it seized up!!.....have you checked the oil?
      Yes have been screwing the dip stick in fully each
      Time...error. !! the book
      States check oil with dip stick resting on the first thread..do not screw in when checking"
      He had a red face and a
      Big repair bill......not under warranty on that one.

    I have driven my Vespa flat out on a racetrack and got maybe a smallish scrath on the sidestand. To make these severe marks on the stand the bike must been driven very fast, heavy loaded with the softest suspension setting.

    Some small Honda industrial engines use a rubber timing belt that runs in oil. Works fine.

    Robot Great video! I'm thinking it was low on oil overheated popped it's cork (freeze plug) then, coolant mixed with oil and over temp runaway with metal grinding on metal. The timing chain failed I'm thinking because the variator was loose and allowed the timing sprockets to ride off the crank woodruff key then the valve timing was compromised...

  • @Syntappi
    @Syntappi Před 8 měsíci

    Valve sealing should be checked with gasoline or brake clean etc. Water has higher surface tension and it won't show the smallest leaks ;) Of course it will show if the valves have huge leak like in this HPE motor.

    I have 2 hpe engines to be rebuilt. Both of them had rod knock noise. Surprisingly the one i have dissassembled the cranck and rod seem ok but pistón and cylinder are scored badly..........i can only think that the origin of the noise is the pistón tinkering in the cilinder........tempted not to change the crankshaft as they are around 300€......

    1) starter motors in Vespas last a long time? I just replaced the starter in my 2009 GTS250ie at 15k miles. The brushes were totally worn and there are no rebuild kits. Fortunately a $45 new Chinese starter from Amazon did the trick. I have original starters in two of my Japanese bikes with 254,000 and 154,000 miles with no issues.
    2) What is the “incorrect rear wheel mounting” that will ruin the axle?

    • @AdventureByJake
      @AdventureByJake Před 8 měsíci

      Do they wear through lack of use / time, rather than mileage? I’ve got a vehicle that’s been parked up for a couple of years, and the tyres and some other parts are completely scrap now vs the vehicle that’s being used daily.

    Robot.........we're called Gearheds.............not Motorheads. Never liked that band anyway...LOL. Dennis, the old dude on the silver LX................... :) But on a serious note Robot. I love how you actually play a detective role is explaining why the motor got "fouled up." Second serious note Robot. As a former car mechanic, it begs the question....what caused the overheating? Water pump failure? Clogged line in or out?

      Yes, it makes no sense for a workshop to hang on to damaged, worn or questionable engine parts. Yes they all go in a big scrap bin to be melted down for the steel and aluminum.
