Nah they seem better because they are usually priced well under market value compared to a similar model/year and miles. If they have sport kit on them it’s usually because that’s what they came with or they have stuck it on because they could 🤷‍♂️ I don’t bother unless the parts are cheap or it will be repaired with the same as what came off it no need to waste money. It will sell as long as it’s priced fairly and repaired properly.

Categorised cars can be great value if the damage was minor and near the build date. This usually meant the insurance didn’t bother getting the car repaired. I have a Porsche 987 S , categorised in 2008, I purchased it in 2017. Any problem would have surfaced by that date obviously, and the price I paid was less than it would have been, still got the car, drives superb. Just do your homework...and that applies to purchasing any car!!!

Noticed one comment mentioning squeaks from interior trim, I can vouch for that. Garage dropped my company car off the ramp and most panels got whacked, was almost written off. There are other niggles that might not appear on a test drive, electric gremlins. Mine now has issues with the keyless entry, reverse camera doesn't always come up. Drives perfectly well, was a darn good car before the calamity happened. Makes me think twice when I see that Cat S on an ad. Cat N probably not going to be any problem.

The problem l have with structural damaged cars is that in many instances, one is not provided with the exact information of damage the vehicle suffered to be classed as an S category car. All the information that is received in many cases is that it is an S Category car full stop!!! Not many selling sites except maybe Copart, show pictures of the car after the accident in order for the buyer to make an informed decision on whether to buy the vehicle or not. Auto trader platform has quite a number of good looking S category car, but they hardly sell for months on end, no matter how cheap. This is purely because the information of the kind of damage sustained by the vehicle is unknown if when a check is done. No one will purchase a vehicle especially one to be used as a family car, if the exact damage to the vehicle is not known, no matter how cheap or good looking the car is. S category cars are very good value for money if the damage details are know and also if the buyer of vehicle is ready to drive the vehicle for a very long time, because purchasing an S category vehicle then trying to sell it on after some time could be quite challenging because most people will rather go for a vehicle with no damage history. Finally a major downside is that some insurance companies are reluctant to insure an S category vehicle and the ones that do increase the premium paid, so one might not be saving as much as was initially anticipated.

It's a mistake buying any used car, providing you do not buy and sell them for a living. We will be in a big recession in 6 months time as hardly any money has been circulated, last year (Google it) UK printed money doubling the circulation, so your £1 is worth a lot less than it is now, and because of hardly any money being circulated, car prices are also higher.
Banks are giving loans left, right and centre because so much money has been printed. They are loaning to people who they know will never pay off the debt.
Additionally, with interest rates so low now is the best time to get a mortgage.

Rang the dealer and as it was still available so I arranged a time to go and see it. They didn't say a word about anything outstanding etc finance nor auto trader did. Only that the car just had a service and is ready for collection as long as payment is received. As I was about to drive for 3 hours I did hpi check and the car was with outstanding finance. I believe that categorised car's should be sold with photos of the damage. Then you make your own judgement

You’re right it would be so good to see pics of the damage. HPI should look at buying the database of all photos from insurance companies and include it as an option when we do check on cars.

Hi Chris, the car starts and drives but the gearbox clonks through the gears so it’ll either need a new box or a repair. The previous owner was driving it daily like it, I drove it for one minute and nearly got whiplash 🤣

Is it worth buying a diesel car, i notice like the ones in this video cat ir not seem to be fairly cheap.
The reason I ask is due to electric eventually, with a view by 2025. Is it because diesal will be outlawed or something?
    Thoughts please?
