$100 Lion Air Flight to Surabaya, Indonesia 🇮🇩

- I left Malaysia and headed back to Indonesia. This time to a city I've never visited before, Surabaya in East Java.
My hotel in Kuala Lumpur was connected to the central train station, KL Sentral. This made it very easy for me to get to KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) as there's an airport train that leaves every 20 minutes.
This ease of getting to the airport made me a bit too complacent about getting there on time. I ended up just missing the train I planned to take, and the one 20 minutes later would get me the airport not long before check in closed.
The airport train was nice and decent value at 55 ringgit ($12 USD) but I had to compare it to the previous airport train I'd taken in Jakarta. The Jakarta airport train is much cheaper and has better seats.
At KLIA airport there was a huge queue for my flight. Well, it wasn't just for my flight. Lion Air combined their flights into one queue. So that was annoying. It seems that Lion Air is a low-cost airline and like the budget airlines in Europe, you get a cheap fare but also a lot of hassle.
Lion Air is basically the Indonesia Ryanair. Except at least on Ryanair you can buy food and drink during the flight. On this Lion Air flight there was nothing. Not even bottled water.
At Surabaya airport I got my visa on arrival quickly. There can often be large queues for visa on arrival at the airports in Jakarta and Bali, but Surabaya has much less international flights arriving. Really it's just getting flights from neighboring countries like Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
After bargaining for a taxi at the airport arrivals, because Grab and Gojek seem to be banned at the international terminal, I arrived in Surabaya city.
My hotel, Doubletree by Hilton was good value at $70 per night for a standard room, and with my Hilton Diamond status I managed to get a free upgrade to a suite.
I checked in to the hotel right in time for evening canapes in the executive lounge, also free for Diamond members. I had planned to go explore Surabaya for street food but I can't pass up on free food. I could only limit how much of the free food I ate, leaving just enough room to go out and enjoy a couple of local delicacies on the streets - Nasi Bebek and Martabak.

First time in Surabaya and my first impressions are that local people are so welcoming and friendly. From the guys I met on the flight, to the airport staff, to the hotel staff, to the vendors on the street, everyone is full of smiles! 😀👍
Wellcome back to Indonesia Dale...
I’am sure they found you friendly too😊
A local youtuber from surabaya named londo kampung, he is an australian but very good speaking javanese, one of famous people in surabaya
If you respect to us, you got our respect dale
Hey Philip Pls Help Turkiye
10:00 so impressed by the Malaysian family sending off their maid at the airport. And I'm really excited to watch your journey again in my country, Dale
So different with my Japanese maid 😢 😭 😭 😢 😢 😭 😏
Good boss. Usually they have family relationship/same family root.
@@anasplus4241 not really. Most Malaysian employers who hired Indonesian maid got no family relationship with their Indonesian maid. And it is common for the Malaysian employers to send their maid off to the airport.
@@anasplus4241 now i wonder where did you get that info 😅 and no, 99% they are not related
Indon bangsa babu
😁
The airport taxi condition is always tricky as some airports in Indonesia still bans online taxis to protect conventional ones. But if there is Bluebird taxi in the airport, take that instead with a running meter. The price is fair and sometimes cheaper than Grab or Gocar.
It's always problem with taxi in indonesia and I only trust bluebird, especially for tourists better take bluebird than private taxi
Yes! Bluebird is the only taxi my dad trust too when he wants to go somewhere, they have fair meter
tbh i agree with that settlement, because that would protect the conventional taxi driver too
Juanda mah problem mulu
can definitely see dales happiness when he checks out new things .. what a positive vibe he has
lol
Hey dale! Just for information, you can't order any hailing taxi app (gojek/grab) when you are inside of the airport because of the taxi driver protest, and im pretty sure the shuttle is closed already. If you want the cheapest option of transport to surabaya i suggest that you go to the parking gate and order a gojek or grab (because its already outside of the red zone) to the bungurasih/purabaya bus station, and get the brand new transit bus (Suroboyo bus) to the middle of the city (Tunjungan st) and you'll see ur hotel there.
Yeah, I think walking outside the gate to the airport is the best option. I'll do that next time.
Actually. In juanda has blue bird taxi already. And its in inside the airport at the exit door. I got blue bird taxi about a month ago.
We have 6 airport train in others city..
More than 5 years, it just idea.
Gubernur of east Java and mayor of Surabaya should shamed on it.
@@dore3faso6sido yah, i admit that, im from surabaya, but im working in jakarta, as metropolitan city number 2 aftar jakarta, transportation in surabaya is so terrible, only have buses from airport to the terminal but not until the city area, no airport train, so hard to get grab/gocar from airport to city,..
@@dore3faso6sido they dont prioritize on public transport, Government of Surabaya always focus their city attraction, but never think about the access for the tourist 😂 and the traffic in Surabaya becoming more bad than Jakarta these days
If you're wondering what is Temulawak and Beras kencur beverage, it's a kinda traditional drink made from herbs, mostly the older or pregnant women drink that, and I know it tastes so bad they usually drink it with Asem (tamarind) to neutralize the taste. Btw welcome back Dale.
His reaction to the taste of these was hilarious, LOL
@@stevenhalley2811 yes, I 've got a big laugh too 😂😂😂
@@stevenhalley2811 🤣
I love those herbs drinks since I was a kid, and they are healthy drinks tho, especially beras kencur good for your voice if you are a singer, make your throat clean 😃
wow the most Strongest legs, The king of of Bargaining & The Master of watch time is back to Indonesia 😁
Welcome back Dale. enjoy your stay
Me and my wife were crying when you tried the ginger drinks at the end 😂 but we love videos like this! Watching hotel room adventures is very entertaining
Yeaay Indonesia again 🇮🇩
I don't know why I'm addicted to see your video that one hour long or more, just amazing to see exploring Indonesia from travelers and tourist perspective.
Goodluck Bro 🤜
Why indonesia people english problem
@@imposiblegamerDls because we were colonized by the dutch
@@imposiblegamerDls even google translate isn't that good when translating bahasa to English 😅
@@partikpronono6765 dutch speak good English though.. you don’t speak Dutch do you ? So no excuse
@@imposiblegamerDls what do you mean by that?
I was literally just in Surabaya, left last week! Have a great time - since you're in the area I highly recommend travelling down to Malang which is my personal favourite city! Beautiful mountains and amazing people.
The food in the executive lounge is awesome, it looks delicious and works of art, the point is that it is free!
Hilton's diamond status is awesome, I want to have it too, Dale, you are so enviable every time!
Now I really want to be your friend and go on a trip with you, haha!
Looking forward to the next episode, great job, thanks a lot for sharing!👍🤩🙌!
Bagus sekali pengalanan si bang Dale di airport Surabaya, biar authority yg berwenang bisa benahin ke kurang2 yg Dale alami, terutama taxi , grab & calo2. Keep the good job Dale, Indonesia travel industry need your non bias report.
simpel sih hindari calo jalan kaki keluar zona merah order grab/gojek... kalau transportasi bandara gk bisa dibenahin mereka juga cari rejeki jadi sama-sama jalan aja gpp...rejeki gak akan tertukar
ga usah dibandara, mau di terminal sama stasiun kalo udh surabaya masih banyak hal hal kaya gini, padahal dikota kota besar laennya udh berbenah surabaya masih tertinggal permasalahan calo
Wellcome back to Indonesia Mate! Nice to see you again come back here. Lets go explore more nice place 👍

Well the hotel is smart to give you an upgrade, and got a good review from an influencer like you! I believe they did the research before you checked in.
I believe so
100% but usually Indonesians are really friendly, so i wondnt doubt the free upgrade for normal people.
Yeah because he tells them who he is 😂, it’s no coincidence 😂
This man made me in love with every country in the world, keep up at the amazing work!😅😊
Your a brave man, only ever flew with Lion Air once and never again, scariest flight and landing I ever had. Enjoy Surabaya, currently enjoying the heat in Jakarta

Welcome back to Indonesia Dale, that two drink is actually local drink called as 'Jamu' which is actually a herbal drink / medicine drink lol, Surabaya is very known for their Jamu in Indonesia but I'm surprised they give it as a welcome drink lol
Even almost all of the hotels in Yogyakarta and Central java do so.
You, CallumAbroad, Steve Marsh and Scotsman in Tenerife are probably my favourite travel vloggers. No one does travel vlogging better than us Scots. 👍😎😉
They're honest, straightforward dan their grumbling is very funny😂

Not only Lionair sounds like Ryanair but also both are low-cost carriers, so just expect the unexpected if you decide to fly with this airline 😄

Yeay 3 times travel to Indonesia! Welcome back Dale 👍🔥
Sunday sorted with Dale's adventure. 😍😍
Hey Dale, fellow British travelled extensively in Malaysia and Indonesia, especially East Java. Please do avoid Lion Air for future, a quick Google search and you'll know what I'm referring to. Also Batu in East Java is an absolute gem. I've got a few trusted contacts there (and East Java) so feel free to give me a shout. Safe travels mate.
if you are not on a business trip, maybe lion air is not suitable. but for vacation trips it is suitable because it is the cheapest even though sometimes the flight time is often delayed.
@@xi_cuan its because of safety nothing else.
Exactly as @coopa has pointed out the safety record is scary. There's alot of politics behind it which I won't go into but will say that many Indonesians themselves will avoid the airlines at all costs. Plenty of other options for domestic and international flights with little difference in price.
Why there are many Indonesian people still flight with Lion Air in domestic route? Not only because they are cheap, but their route are wide to many destinations especially unpopular places. Lion air has massive route and frequent schedule compare than Garuda or others airline. So we didn't have many choices.
Lion Air is awesome. I’ve flown them many times to some quite remote locations. The 737MAX issue blamed on them was totally the fault of Boeing.
You don't how happy i am knowing you're in Indonesia again. Will be waiting for your videos!
Welcome back to Indonesia Dale! we love you and your vlogs always haha
Its a good day when both Dale and Harald uploads
Thanks for visiting Dale!
Can't believe you're visiting surabaya. I've been watching all of your videos since your visit in medan. Might stumble upon you 😄, currently studying in surabaya. Anyway, while you're there, you should try Nasi Madura. Enjoy!
i like the way you preview for the next video, can't wait to watch it. Stay healthy and enjoy your adventure in indonesia
Good bye dale, welcome back malaysia again and safe journey to indonesia 💪💪💪
The 'bird feeder' is for the well dressed business man😂It's for hanging your suit on...trousers go over the metal bar, jacket over the hanger and the wee bird feeder plate is for cufflinks, tie pin etc lol Great content as always Dale, a cheeky wee upgrade, lovely food as well , theyre really spoiling you, youll never want tae leave lolol
I think he knew, but sarcastically he said it's a bird feeder 😂

Beras is uncooked rice & nasi is cooked rice. The hotel staff is super nice to u for gd reviews.
mantaf...👍🇲🇨 bung sudah ada di surabaya lagi. saya suka nonton videomu..👍🇲🇨🇬🇧
It's not easy to enjoy "beras kencur" if you have not drunk it before. But I drink it regularly on breakfast. And yes, it's a healthy drink. Welcome back to Indonesia.
padahal beras kencur enak ya bro, ada manisnya dibanding temulawak, tp knp ekspresinya lebih parah wkwk
Welcome Back again Mr Dale, sorry if we not speak English better 😄

Looks like lots of Indonesian explorations coming up, great video 💚
Welcome to Surabaya mr Dale , I am always interested in your travel videos, in Surabaya you have to go to the Heroes Monument and the Suramadu Bridge ,and you must try a typical Surabaya food, namely rujak cingur 🙏
Surabaya people here.
Just for information, in Surabaya (may also in other cities) mostly in airport we cant order ride hailing app like gojek or grab.
Since they already share the boundary between airport taxi and ride hailing.
If you use grab or gojek from anywhere going to airport, its still okay tho.
The cost for airport taxi in surabaya normally around 100-150 K
Since they are taxi only for airport, so after taking you to destination, they will need to come back to the airport (unlike grab which you can pick order nearby)
Which explains why the cost is higher
perfect timing dale i just finshed studying and prepered a meal , im ready to watch
