  • In this episode, I need to get my motorcycle to Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. This is the only place where I'll be able to get it fixed. But it's still 140 kilometers through Liberia, to the border. And then another 430 kilometers to Abidjan. This is going to be a challenge..

Hello from America. My friend is from Sierra Leone and were talking and I told him about a Dentist from America that went to Africa and shot a Lion for fun, so Americans burnt his boat down when he got home. So my friend goes home for vacation and comes back and says he saw a guy trying to carry a Goat tied on a motorcycle and stopped him and told him you cant do that. Find a truck. Most of us wouldnt trust a dug out wood boat like that with a motorcycle on it. We'd be afraid it would sink. But we dont leave the house much to find out.

I cant help thinking that if she hadn’t been able to pay them for their help, they might not have been so generous with their effort and time - human nature being what it is all over the world. However, the word must have spread that she is famous and is on You Tube for the world to see, so helping her is a plus and a chance for some sort of recognition. I wonder that if this had been any other woman, travelling alone and unknown to the public, whether that woman might have been taken advantage of, maybe held to ransom etc., Fortunately Noraly has a satellite phone and could summon help in a real emergency. I say the above, not as a criticism as such, but because after watching all her adventures I put myself in her shoes and how vulnerable her position actually is… however, she is one much braver lady than most and has the kudos to thoroughly plan ahead and her team (wherever they are) can track her progress and come to her rescue in a real emergency.

@@gnutscha Well people in those parts of the world are much more used and much better at spontainous problem solving. They are as clever as people elsewhere, after all, and they are confronted with issues all the time. But then, there are very different expectations and demands. We in our part of the world need to follow rules, safety regulations, provide services with a defined quality, can only provided services for money if licensed and so on. It is geared towards a high quality of services, safety and so on, but of course much worse if you just spontaiously want to solve a problem and dont have the resources. The answer will just be no.
I would love to see that level of problem solving here in Europe but I dont think it is really possible, as you would get into all kinds of trouble.

Not sure exactly what you are sorry about, clutch plates worn out (by a helpful supportive person...trying to help but only making things worse) are normal, and preventative ultimately. The complete package is a rider who also is capable of fixing a basic mechanical problem. Think ISDE riders, and old school Paris dakar racing, etc. I am trying to get my head around the phenomena of motorcyclists who are at one with the bike (Alaska, she), and yet seem to have very little understanding of how to repair such a thing. A spare set of clutch plates....very small to pack, and basic tools and mechanical know how to change...by design by Honda and other manufacturers. Lots of praise and sympathy in this journey of Norallys but very few comments that actually address the problem. All the help she gets on the way, is because she needs it as she seems quite unprepared mechanically, and I have not see a tent, or a tire change etc. Lets all keep this in perspective. I live here in Canada, the wild west side, and there is no doubt in my mind that if she "broke" down on the trial here, there would be hill billy bending over backwards to help her, and truck her, and fix her bike, and house her, and feed her etc. People around the world are nice, and helpful, and generous. It doesn't seem to matter where you are travelling, and Noraly seems to be proving this as she goes all over the world, it seems. All she needed to say the rider who was "helping" was no thanks, I got this. That error caused the bike to break, and being sorry about the mechanical problems doesnt address the problem......"don't let strangers ride your bike, when your bike is everything to your journey. That is a basic rule in my book.

Noraly … this is the guy who invited you to race Vegas to Reno with my team. Your courage seems to bring out the best In people. Thank you for bringing the world with you on your adventures! We have a spot for you at our next race in October if you like. Virginia City, Nevada to Tonopah, NV…. 350 miles across the Nevada desert with a group of old guys. We may all be senior citizens, but we still love motorcycles, racing and adventure!

Too bad Noraly couldn't have filmed those corrupt policemen! Their faces should have been all over there. Sighting Alaska in the back of that truck was probably giving them the idea similar to sighting a beautiful blonde in a chauffer-driven limousine. Alaska sure stands out in a country where two corrupt policemen are riding on a little scooter. They robbed Noraly of what was probably a year's wages for them. That sure didn't make me want to go to that country! Along with the other "fines" along the way... 😝 Hopefully, Noraly had enough money left to pay the wonderful people who drove her. However, on this occasion the truck driver had all the papers on hand and up to date, etc. The officer checked the lights, the parking lights, the breaks, the fire extinguishers, etc., etc. The driver had all the necessary equipment, and everything worked fine. So, the officer said to him, "Congratulations, you have everything in order." He then took out a cigarette and asked the driver for a match. The driver said, I don't have a match; I don't smoke. "Well," said the officer, "you are supposed to carry matches with you. That will be a fine of so many ...." The thing is that they will get you one way or another. Travel well and Godspeed, Noraly.

I watched your channel for the first time just yesterday, Sept 15, 2023 and was amazed and completely absorbed! Noraly, your motivation, audacity, commitment and resilience are unique human characters to behold! You may have undertaken this venture as a longing to pursue a personal passion, but I can tell you that you're serving a global good for bringing to light, the socio economic and cultural diversities of World civilizations! As a Liberian, I'm grateful that you left my country with an amiable impression of ordinary people who were eagle to help you. That's the Liberian way. We love people, especially people who don't look like us.
As you saw and experienced first hand during your journey, our country is recovering very slowly from nearly 35 years of political instabilities culminating into years of sustained devastating and ruinous civil wars! Hence, the abject poverty and dreadful infrastructure conditions, especially rural road networks. Like you, it was quite satisfying to see the resilience of our people on full display. Thank you for the courage, strength and passion for this societal good endeavor.

I was in tears with how kind all these people are. I would imagine a little overwhelming with all the chatter, but their kindness was amazing. Looking forward to seeing you and Alaska on the road again.

No matter what happens Noraly's smile and calmness is the best. Because of that people are willing to help her.

Lawrence and his Brother should be awarded with some kind of medal at least!❤❤❤
The poorer people seem to be the more helpful one is to the other, in our crazy world we don't even know our neighbors!
