- **I don't begin demoing the software until around the 2:20 mark**
NOTE: Because this is the first video of the series, I take some time at the beginning to introduce myself and, since the video series is free and I'm not being paid by Affinity, I ask for donations. I will not be doing any of that in future Mastering Affinity Photo videos.
I will be selling the RAW files I use in this series for a nominal fee -- check back -- I hope to have them available soon.
In this video series, I'll be demonstrating all of the features of, and how to use, Affinity Photo.
In this episode, I process a RAW image from start to finish including exporting it as a JPG. Along the way I talk about Affinity Photo and all the things you can do with it.

Thank you for watching my videos. I truly appreciate it!
I say this without any level of exaggeration - I think Anthony Morganti has done more to help the Beginner / Intermediate Photography Community improve their skills at Photoshop , Lightroom , Affinity etc than any other person I can think of - he is a truly remarkable teacher and human being . Thank you , sir .
I just purchased Affinity Photo for both my MacBook and iPad Pro, so I’m super stoked you are starting this series. Thank you!
Thank you Anthony, I've been using AP for about 4 months now and really enjoy it, I like watching videos for the program because I usually pick up a tip or two when I do.
I have just bought Affinity Photo and I am really happy to find that you have made tutorials about it. They are always very well explained. Thanks.
Anthony, I am new to Affinity Photo and really enjoyed your Quick Start lesson. Very well presented and extremely informative. Have viewed other videos and found yours to be the most comprehensive I've watched to date and plan to watch your entire series. Thank you!
Thanks Anthony. A first class introduction. I look forward to more of these from you.
Thank you for hosting this series! I haven't read through the other comments, but one quick note: Ctrl+ or Ctrl- will zoom in/out, but you can also use the Ctrl and mouse wheel, or if you want a specific amount you can use the keyboard numbers - i.e. Ctrl 1 will zoom into 100%, Ctrl 2, 200%, etc. Ctrl 0 (zero, not o) takes you back to fit screen
I left Buffalo in 1964, graduated from Hutch Tech in 1962, the second I heard your voice I knew you were from Buffalo...I'm practicing my Buffalo accent..😊Very good videos.. I am a long time PS user and just switched to Affinity. Good stuff. Thank you.
Recently purchased A/P and was looking for something just like your video series to use as an instructional guide. This is exactly what I was looking for. Really appreciate the way you take the time to go thru process along with the explanations. Have subscribed and look forward to viewing and learning from your library. GREAT job!!!
Thank you so much Anthony, I have just found this series and you make it so clear and simple to follow. Affinity is a great tool but Newbie's like me find it all overpowering until now. Great tutorials.
Thank you so much Anthony, I’ve been having all sorts of trouble figuring Affinity photo out but you just turned on the light for me. Now I can see.
Hi Anthony, I've really enjoyed this tutorial and will be following the rest. You explain all the relevant points really clearly and hopefully I will be able to follow along and pick it all up relatively quickly. Thank you Del
Great tutorial and excellent teaching style. Looking forward to future posts. Thank you from Gene in Australia
Thank you!! You answered questions other "starter" videos left out. I look forward to watching all your videos.
Thank you Anthony for teaching Affinity,,, it was a surprise to see your tutorial but of course I'm a very happy chappy to see you here.. Thank you . Neville...
I just bought a new windows laptop with a great processor 64bit and all these actions and commands are instantaneous. So for anyone watching, don't be put by the slow reaction in this video.
Great tutorial btw. Really informative. Thank you Anthony
Great instructional video. You’re easy to listen to and very concise. I have watched several videos but the workflow you described very well was missing in them...thank you. I just purchased the program and your vid is very helpful for an “old” guy to understand.
Best video tutorial for Affinity that I have seen. Thank you for posting
Excellent Quick Start Affinity Video, I had been using Adobe LR for several years and decided to buy Affinity last year, but I still kept using LR Classic as I was unfamiliar with Affinity Photo, your guide gives me some confidence to relook at editing my RAW files with Affinity Photo, Thank you for sharing your knowledge Anthony Morganti.
Great introduction, thanks so much. I've been using lightroom for ages, but frustrated with the subscription deal. I moved to serif, then affinity designer some time ago (love that) and had tried to make the move to affinity photo a couple of times, but was toiling to recreate the almost second nature lightroom workflow, as there's just so much in affinity photo. This quick start video hit the perfect level to help me make the permanent switch from lightroom.
hank you so much for all the information and demos. I appreciate the explanations! I'm going to watch your other tutorials.
I have purchased Affinity about a month prior to Lightroom. I was overwhelmed by the software, so I didn't use it that much since. I found Lightroom to work better with my pictures. I do recognise the value and power of Affinity and hope your videos will encourage me start using it more.
Very good introduction. I'm looking forward to further videos in the series. Thanks.
love your project base teaching style..looking forward to the rest of this course...tanks
Anthony you have such a great tutoring style, you make things so simple to follow and understand. I use mainly LR 6.14 (I don't like subscriptions) and L4 although I'm sure I don't maximise their potential. I have other editing software i.e. ON1, Smart Photo Editor, PSE 2020, the OLD Nik collection but I tend to 'go to' LR & L4. I decided based on the social media publicity, marketing etc etc to go ahead and buy Affinity Photo (BTW in your No1 video it looks like the version I have is different from yours as my Vignette is in a different menu place). I felt totally out off my comfort zone and thought "what have I done" I had no idea what I was doing or how to go about using it - layers, masks OMG. Then I found your video series. Thank you for convincing me I haven't wasted my money. You switched a light on for me and I'm looking forward to the learning journey with you as a great tutor.
Excellent tutorial Anthony...thank you. It was a great help!
I think that all people new to Affinity Photo, should see this viedo first. It expains the layers far better than I understood from other tutorials.
Very good! Thankyou! You speak clearly and the sound recording is good which means that I can relax and absorb it all comfortably (some presenters don't speak clearly into a cheap microphone which makes it difficukt to catch what they're saying).
Thanks so much for providing such an wonderful tutorial. Its been few month i was searching such tutorial, but everyone was either showing raw file edit or jpeg file edit. But video is just as i was looking for. Complete road trip from raw to jpeg to final output .... sorry for my bad English....
Thank you so much for your simple explanation, it's easy to understand right away.
Thanks Anthony, nice easy concise tutorial for a basic start with this program.
Great lesson and excellent teaching style. Thank you.
Very good. Lots to learn! And lots learned!
Good job no the teaching. I like the software you use to teach. The zoom feature is great and you use it well. Easy to follow. Thank you.
Thanks. I could follow you very well. You have a good teaching style.
A great help, clear and easy to understand, thankyou.
Excellent videos, Anthony. Newly subbed and really enjoying them.
I bought Affinity Photo as result of the disaster called Catalina screwing my Lightroom. This video got me out of the blocks and running, excellent, thank you Anthony!
this is great tutorial. Thanks cannot wait for the next one :)
Hi Anthony: I have switched from photo shop to Affinity. I've spent weeks trying tutorials from a number of ;presenters. It seems talent is not enough if the presentation is all over the place. Thank you for your you tube presentation. It was slow and you didn't show me several options for every step of the way. It got quite confusing. Your timing is great and for the first time I can proceed with beginners confidence. Tks Erik Poppke
I had AP for a while, and decided to dive deeper into it . This was an excellent introduction :) I wished they would have a kind of folder view so we can just see our images and select the raw file to edit , similar to ON1 photo raw. Thank you Anthony, Have a great day, and regards from Uruguay!
Excellent stuff. I've been a long time Elements user to mainly edit my raws using camera raw, but as elements lacks the full power to edit images i've purchased affinity. Some great tips and workflows on here for a beginner to the software. Looking forward to watching the series
I am coming from Elements 14 and old photoshop cs. Affinity seems to have very similar tools which makes it easy to cross adapt. Never used Lighttoom but would like to see Affinity equivalent. The levels adjustable graph is a nice added touch I missed from Elements. This is an excellent video. Great teacher.
Ok then... how much for the course? ...Where do I sign up and when do I begin the course? ....WOW, like that is the easiest and best understood tutorial I have ever seen to date...Seriously!! No foolish jargon, no odd ball names of applications and so easy to follow along for those who are in to a 3rd degree of confusion. Thank YOU Thank YOU Thank YOU!!! YOU explain it so it ALL makes perfect sense!
Thanks a lot for this series!
Great video - I am just starting with Affinity Photo - please don't apologize for talking too much! Your videos are very helpful.
Excellent description
Thanks for sharing this. It is really useful.
Excellent video mate..
Excellent Info. Thank you 🙏
I PAID for Training material that not even close to the Instructions provide by Anthony! I love your training!!! I will be doing the whole Series..... Many Thanks :-))
Glad you put this out, I was about to can CC but the lack of auto lens corrections means I will not be buying this product. Many thanks!
Great video Anthony. I like your teaching style. You have sold both a sub to your channel AND I think that I'll be purchasing a license for the product too. Thank you sir.

I have used Photoshop elements for as long as I've been doing photos, about 10 years. I refuse to do a subscription with PS. I am aggravated at this point by the limitations but I do use a lot of plug ins. I'm trying to get the courage to change to Affinity Photo. Is it really worth it for me? I would like some artistic plugins that elements wont allow. It is a dilemma. It would take me a while to make the change. Advice appreciated.
@@marthah6650 I like you have fallen out of love with Adobe due to their pricing policy, there are other tools on the market that do the same as Lightroom (Exposure X5 is a viable alternative) and photoshop (affinity is a viable alternative) at a much cheaper price. I have used photoshop with plugins. I have moved to Affinity and it does pretty much what photoshop does and for the most part it does it in a similar way. Not all methods are the same of course, but there is a lot of video support both on the affinity site youtube. It does support photoshop plugins, for example I am using Nik plugins (and others) with affinity without issue. Currently affinity is around £25 in the UK (I hear $25 in the US), at that price it is a bargain. I found it quite easy to shift. One thing to note is that affinity is more like full photoshop rather than Elements.
Thanks for your efforts great job
Wonderful tutorial, thanks
I'm number 1000 to like this video!
Love your videos hope to see some on affinity photo for ipad
excellent vid tony ;-)
Thank you For our Great Tutorial about AP. 🙂 I Hope For more Tutorial. CZcams explain very Nice. Best wishes from Bavaria
Anthony, what does Affinity have for Lightroom Migration and import?
Admire your teaching skills. I am lucky I have an older camera supported by Lightroom 2015 which I own. For the extra $50 I bought AP which I use for the things that LR does badly or doesn't do. The combination is awesome. That said I would not want to be using AP only!
Thank you! This program is essential, as my non subscription PS CS6 is not compatible with my M1 MacMini and I am not about to subscribe to Adobe products. This application is a great replacement and is quite intuitive coming from the Adobe world.
Nice video tutorial, thanks
Thanks for the series! I've been wanting this for some time. As for lens correction, you can turn off/on automatic lens correction in the "Develop Assistant". However, I think Affinity Photo has bugs when identifying what lens is being used. When I turn off/on automatic lens correction, I can't tell whether or not it's being done. At least I can't tell based on my files. There is more information in the Affinity Forums on this subject.
Thank you for the info Alan! I too have a lot to learn -- I will talk about this in the next video.
Thank you so much!
great intro to using Affinity
Your video's are first rate.
excellent teaching me a lot
Does Affinity Photo have a good image distort tool?
How do you magnify your tool selections as you have done? This is a nice feature for my old eyes with such small icons. Thanks
Thanks Clive.
I am having major problem with D850 photos files, it hangs up when loading files. Do you have any suggestions.
Thanks for all the videos. I already have On1photoraw, what does Affinity give me I don’t already have?
THANK YOU!
dos affinity has selective brushes similar to Lightroom? apply tool selectively
Ok . . . first, very impressed. You are a talented instructor. Second, what screen cast software are you using. I would love to incorporate that tool into my own tutorials.
I have just got affinity, and you have taught me everything in LR, now I need you to teach me this program :), any chance of an updated tute?
Nice one
Can you please help me, I recently purchased the latest affinity photo 1.83.? version. I paid for it and begun down loading. Now in the invoice portion the product key . From now on everything went wrong, at no time has the system asked me/prompted me to input in the product key, consequently the work space is greyed out.
The instructions given are less than helpful and therefore I cannot enjoy the software that should be available.
Because, over time you provided some excellent guidance, you might be able enlighten me, please
Finally a person without an english accent teaching Affinity Photo!! LOL
After 30 years of digital editors, I am bring images into Capture one, editing in Affinity then dumping into Photos for permanent storage and sharing as well as use on my apps.
Actually it corrects for each lens as it loads. Speed. Capture One loads FAST
Like the series Anthony as just thinking of purchasing the AF software. Have been using Lightroom mainly over the last 3 years so have a good storage and filing system built up which I will lose if I switch. How do you file and store your photos on your system?
I have to say that I believe AP is more an alternative to Photoshop than Lightroom, although it does have some adjustments as well. There is no Digital Asset Management (DAM) available with AP. I use Lightroom for up to 85% of my photo adjustments and go to AP for stylisation when I need to. AP is not an alternative to Lightroom - yet! I do believe the Serif software engineers (authors of AP) are currently working on DAM but it is not currently available.
Here’s a Dummies question. As a beginner to design, can I start with the Affinity suite, commit to it, and stay with it, or do I need to also learn the Adobe suite at sine point. Cost being the main issue of course. Thanks!
Anthony, I tried using Affinity Photo for a while, and got fairly proficient with it. However, check the size of the .afphoto file, especially after making several layer adjustments as you did in the video.. They start out big, and only get bigger. It was the only drawback for me....
Are they larger than PSD files from Photoshop?
I began watching and subscribed and supported and read through and also checked "goods availability" for raw files to follow along with as I would welcome paying for them but can't find the link and other raw files you are selling are for other courses not Affinity Photo. Appreciate if you could provide this link?
The day the add a film strip or organize persona then this will be a game changer
Thanks!
Thank you Leiah!
Anyone have a new iMac who could give a feedback on speed benefits. Chromatic aberration does a little bit of improvement and takes time apply
I am missing it or does no one mention sharpening in Affinity?
Thank you so much for the video. I tried to make a donation but had some issues. I will try again.
That's very kind of you. Thank you!
@@AnthonyMorganti I watched your videos and that are very useful, I wish I could make a donation. Do you have other options except paypal?
@@rifqymuchanif404 Thank you for your kindness but unfortunately, all I have available right now is PayPal. I appreciate that you tried! Take care and stay safe.
Not bad but the fundamental fail is the assumption that somebody new to Affinity is not new to photo-editing (like me) and as a consequence much of what I considered complex you took as read. Surely the starting point is aiming at somebody who has decided to move on from the cell phone (USA, I am English by the way) and wishes to improve their photography - from a negative base line.
From many years personal experience I have found that when teaching just assume the class knows nothing - start from scratch. If you think you are starting from Basic Basics you have probably found the correct starting point.
I wish you well and thanks for this - well paced and no annoying muzak.
I think auto lens correction has now been added.
Bedankt
Thank you Frank!
I just posted a video where I demo the Automatic Lens Corrections in Affinity Photo and compare it to the automatic lens corrections in Lightroom and On1 Photo RAW using the same unprocessed RAW file. You can view that video here: czcams.com/video/FqdOAaOTEPo/video.html
Can you convert a photo into a smart object?
Affinity Photo does a bit differently is that every new image brought into a document is automatically a Smart Object. And just like in Photoshop, you can Right Click > Rasterize any smart object to rasterize the layer.
Are you from Buffalo?
Anthony, love your videos but this one is really outdated. Do you have a newer one on Affinity Photo?
Good Night Guy
the vidéo is for me more valuable than the software.
Pedagogical as always
But can anyone explain to me the use of a "One by one photo" software ?
Even in the analog days, who would seriously process pictures without a contact sheet ?
