As someone who just quit smoking back in August it’s mostly a stress reliever. I unfortunately started at 13 and couldn’t stop. It’s like any other addiction. I always wish I never started. Even now like 4 months cigarette free I want one. Also kids that grow up around smoking usually end up smoking. There’s a lot of factors to it honestly.
i think people need to realise how unhelpful they are when they just shame smokers, like i guarantee 99% of smokers wished they didnt smoke. its expensive, addictive and impractical. shaming people for smoking will NEVER help, its just rude and arrogant and people should mind their own business
@@lucy_h566 Exactly, smoking Benefits you by releasing dopamine to make you feel better, alcohol is the same but it also just you down more and inhibits thought so you are less likely to stress but both are bad and arguably have a Benefit but are not practical in the long run
Opposite here. Mother was a long time smoker and I never found it something worth spending money on.
@@basicbrittani I’m glad for you because that’s not the norm and it’s great u didn’t start. My siblings and I grew up around it and we all ended up smokers. My siblings still smoke. And all my friends who smoke their parents also smoke. We stole cigs from our parents as teens. I think I’ll always want a cigarette and if you have a partner that smokes it’s even harder to quit. Thankfully my fiancée doesn’t smoke so at home it’s not too hard but being around my friends who still do is rough. But my point is people start smoking for many reasons and once u start it’s super fucking hard to stop. And the above comment is right most smokers want to quit I don’t think I met one smoker who is glad that they smoke. I have a friend who is an ex addict and they said quitting cigarettes was honestly worse for them than quitting dope.

@@Gravemistake94 oh yeah I know the ropes. My mother has stated herself that she has tried every drug and was able to quickly ween out of them but cigarettes has always been her detriment. From 14-45 it’s hard to cut that out after two decades.
I tried them as a kid, and quickly realized that cigs suck.
But I was already smoking pot at that time so I fell into a weed dependency and not cigarettes, which Hindsight, I’m just glad it wasn’t cigs.

Yeah, I've been smoking for like six years now and can't quit for shit. Health is one thing, but I don't want to even think how much money I've spent because of it

@@vlnt6499 I think the main argument is you have to binge drink to get any considerable health issues, you're fine if you have a beer with your mates when the football's on. Whereas smoking is harmful to your system regardless of how frequently you do it. I've never had a smoking issue but media would have you believe it's much harder to give up on too (pinch of salt ofc)

At this point I’m truly confused on if y’all are talking about cigarettes or a vape? Because nobody should be smoking cigarettes in closed doors.
I can understand why George hates smokers but in defence of all other smokers, I try to stay away from people, especially kids while I'm smoking and if I'm with friends I make sure that they're all okay with me smoking around them.

I tried it once when I was like 14. Threw up instantly. The rush was too much. So the next week I decided I’d try it again n try not be sick. 6 years later and I wish I never had the second one. The amount of money down the drain… also don’t smoke green. That ruins your life even more. 8th a day for the last 3 years and my heads frazzled. 4 weeks sober today tho which is pretty sweet

@@masterofthechimichangas1306 No I’m countering what the original commenter said, as George’s statement is not correct, if he thinks alcohol has Benefits because you feel something, then smoking also has benefits as it releases the same chemicals that make you feel good. Everything is slowly killing you, sugar and even prescription drugs can slowly kill you. Everyone is dying at different rates and honestly if some people didn’t have cigarettes to relive stress there would probably be more chance they harm themselves in other less slow ways.

Agree on the smoking part, people here keep smoking at bus stops and on the streets and it's so annoying because the smell triggers bad headaches for me. My lungs are also shite because of my asthma so I'd prefer if I didn't have to inhale all that since it can irritate my lungs.

no one ever talks about the how smoking cigs is calming, as a person with social anxiety ill have a smoke before and one or two during social gatherings. it eases anxiety and helps me get through a night without draining my social battery. but i agree that smoking constantly reduces the calming effects but one or two every now and again or during stressful times is pretty helpful

I began smoking frequently during an awful depressive episode when I was 15 where I felt like someone was coming up behind me to grab me at all times, this tense anxious feeling of unsafety and the only thing that would make it go away for a while was to smoke a cigarette, and from there I was hooked. I smoked for the first time when I was 10 and had a couple smokes from ages 11-13 due to suicidal ideation and depression. Your chances of smoking go up with a family history of it, and 3/4 of the other members of my household (mum, dad, older brother) were smokers so it was all too easy even though I knew it was dumb. I’m currently cutting down because I’m 18 and it costs about 60+ bucks for a pack or pouch of tobacco/smokes.

I get peoples distaste for smoking, I always hated it and grew up knowing it’s bad, bad side effects, etc. But at this point smoking helps me relax, I don’t care about the side effects due to depression, but I’ll always stay away from children and people who aren’t okay with it.
