When announcing an upcoming movie or sequel, Disney has never shied away from laying out long wait-times for their larger franchises, such as Frozen or Toy Story. That’s why it was so surprising when they not only announced that they were working on Moana 2 already, but also that the movie will be releasing later this year. While it was totally expected for such a popular film to eventually get a sequel, the fact that it seems like Disney’s almost finished working on it is a delightful treat. But what exactly do we know about Moana 2?

Okay I know we usually hate these, but here me out: a maui spin off tv show staring young Maui earning his tattoos going on adventures and one of the colinas mentioned is the crab who like treasure and it ends with Maui being an adult stealing the heart of tafiti thus showing that it’s a canon prequel.

I feel like that would be a great miniseries, but I don't see how it would work very well as a larger-scale series without Moana.

Hey, just because the sequel isn't super great doesn't mean that it ruins the first movie. Sometimes movies can ruin their previous ones, but if Moana 2 is just 'good' or even just okay, Moana original could still be seen at the better one and that would be that.
And make sure not to ruin it for others if you don't like it ;-;

The plot of Moana 1 is basically this:
No one leaves the island, because the outside wirkd is too dangerous. But then the island itself is in danger. Moana does leave the island, hoping to save her people. In the end she not only saves the island, but also mskes the outside world safe again, so her people can resume their seafaring ways.
I think the plot of Moana 2 should tie into this new situation, but also turn the previous story around:
As the islanders explore the newly accessible reaches of the ocean, they encounter a new, previously unknown danger. As a short term fix, the danger can be fought off to keep it away from the island. But for a more permanent solution a serious problem needs to be solved to make the danger disappear altogether.
And who else could solve this kind of problem than a well known wayfinder-heroine with a demigod sidekick?

If she has a kid. It better not be with Mowy. The theories of them being related is... I know it's unlikely. But it ruined the possibility of a relationship for me

I would like to see that Moana has a child, who is afraid of the ocean and wants to run away from it. It would be funny with seaweed and star fishes latching on to him/her. The child then gets lost and is taken from another wrong of Maui past creating a cranky spirit. The end of the story is the child over comes the fear of the ocean and how important it is and the lives that live in the sea with what they do for the land. Bringing a message of change and overcoming fears and the importance of working together.
U know i don't understand is why the writers paired maui and Moana its weird like he's way older than her and there was no romance scenes for them in the first movie
If Tamatoa does return, I do think he should be the main antagonist. The dialogue would start with him plotting his revenge on Moana and Maui after completely toppling him overboard in the heart of Lalotai. He decides to take all the coconut trees from island after island, and put it in an unexplored island. When Motinui hears about this, they begin to voyage out to find the unexplored island as they do need the coconuts for their harvest. Sina gets ill and it would require the three special ingredients mentioned in the video. Moana, Maui, and companions are sent to find the missing trees Tamatoa stole. However, Heihei will not be on a boat as The Ocean would prevent him from doing so after their last encounter.
Tamatoa should totally return- favorite “villain” character so far
Being that the actual legend of Maui and Moana being father and daughter, the idea of them having a kid is just a 🙅♀️
Please please please don’t ruin the movie. Guys watch Moana 1 as much as you can before the 2nd drops, just incase, savor the good times.

I honestly would love if Moana and Maui got together. They had a good connection and I honestly was surprised there wasn't a wedding with everything they been through. That being said they could have just stayed as really good friends and Maui could act like an older brother would to Moana's love interest. A fun twist is Maui likes her and in his attempt to protect her, he actually gets rather jealous.

This should be the plot of Moana 2!!!
After finding her identity Moana & Maui has anther adventure of discovering a lost island that has anther village. At that village Moana encounters a romantic connection with a handsome villager who’s the son to the chief of their village and gets married then has a daughter named Kailani whom was born with Moana’s calling and inheritance the love of the ocean. Trying to protect her daughter against Tamatoa with the other monsters of the ocean. Kailani starts to displays some powers that her mom and the ocean gives her and finally defeats Tamatoa and all the monsters of the ocean. As Kailani Finds her own identity near the end Moana and her husband grants Maui as the godfather of their daughter

The second fan theory is impossible. Like it’s already been spoken to knowledge by Disney that Maui and Moana are totally platonic. If Moana did have a kid as well it’s again most likely either not going to have a father because Disney is like that. They tried before to make Ariel a mother in her second movie and it failed miserably so I’d be shocked if they tried it again. I think I will add Moana 2 to my go watch in theaters list.

I hope Disney doesn't butcher this one like they have the past several by even implying anything that remotely resembles adult sexuality options or injecting what they imagine might be the Polynesian cultural equivalent of "gender fluidity."
Also, the underlying message could be so much better. The environmentalist chant of "save the trees" in relation to the climate change trope has been worn to rags and beat to death by everyone who can't see that the climate goes through natural cycles. Can we just have a message about loyalty, family and good morals rather than some subliminal political narrative for once?
And then there's the possibility of Moana and Maui having a kid. That in itself is an entirely different set of problems, not the least of which is Maui's nature. His pride, selfishness and emotional instability are intrinsic aspects of his character that would be antithetical to a stable family life and serious points of contention in a committed relationship. He's prone to moments of explosive rage and crushing depression in equal measure. Not that his friendship with Moana couldn't blossom into love or that he couldn't learn to be more considerate, humble and emotionally resilient, but his nature as a demigod and caricature as a semi-spoiled child in an adult body would put such a relationship in jeopardy from the outset.
what crazy talk is that that MOVIE is supposed to be the DISNEY+ SERIES that should have come out this year the only cutted cutting it into a Movie because IGER saw the material they had and was impressed to decide to making instead the series out of it a MOVIE so AULI AND THE ROCK were already on board to voice their role for those series so there is no negotiations.
The only thing will be that Auli will not starring in the LIVE ACTION they pushed now into 2026 for celebration of the OG from 2016 so THE ROCK will be MAUI she will just produce since she grown to old to be MOANA in her and other opinions that´s why she just producing the LIVE ACTION but she will voice in this from Series to MOVIE changed MOANA 2 that for that reason being deep in progress since it would have been out on Disney+ this year anyway they bring it instead cutted into a Movie on November 27th this Year.
so stop the fake rumors and inform better not always count on fake rumors around like she and he would have a child wait til November watch it on the BIG SCREEN and we all would see what the Series turned into Movie will be like but according to BOB IGER it looked amazing so fingers crossed it will be even as cutted together into just a Movie.
I already solved it.
First movie, Maui explains the creation of coconuts. He killed an eel and buried it.
The Palme trees, aka coconut trees, are disappearing. We see clips of big green sea snake. The eel has somehow resurrected and is seeking vengeance, and poisons Sena, who is Maui's secret lover, father of Moana, explaining Moana's demi-god status with the ocean. The eel; pursues Maui, and Maui must do his best to keep the reason behind the eel's murderous intentions, but struggles to and eventually it is revealed when moana has a nice old heart to heart with the Eel.
Please don't divulge the whole movie before it's even out.
