If you live in a place where Winter is such a major part of life, you don't hide from it. You embrace it.
Agree!
The cold seems to make the guys grumpy, but the ladies seem to like the winter season and are very content. The children are the happiest of all though.
I have lived in Thailand for more than 17 years now. We only have two seasons here -- hot with sun and hot with rain. I really miss real seasons. I lived in the mountains in New Mexico, U.S.A., and loved the snow there every winter. Perm is exactly how I imagine Russia in the winter and makes me want to visit someday in December or January. Love your videos always.
School is only cancelled here if roads are unsafe b/c of snowfall or if there is freezing rain and it's unsafe. We have school in -36 Celsius. I'm in Canada btw. I love autumn because the leaves change colours, air is crisp and cold. It is just great.
Enjoy your videos. I grew up in the UK until I was 15 years old and I lived in Miami USA for 37 years where there are no differences in the seasons. Three years in Charlotte, US, six years in Chicago USA and one year in Nashville, USA which all have seasons. Married a girl from SARATOV 12 years ago and we now live in the UK. Loved my visits to Russia, train travel and the people. The weather here is considered mild and Brits don't handle snow very well. Like you said you need the right clothes. Happy Travels.
being the students of perm university, i experienced perm winter 🥶🥶, its sooo cold , but meanwhile its so fun in -30 celcius ☺️, and love winter season , love Eli for this beautiful video, lot's of love for Diana 😘 from India
My first time experiencing such cold temperatures was a couple of days ago. I'm on a Snowboarding trip and I'm sleeping in a camper van (an ice storm hit the middleof the U.S.)... a few days ago I woke up and it was -29* Celsius 🥶. I put my food and water inside of a cooler to keep them from freezing 🧊... it's crazy 🤪! But I'm loving it 🏂 ❄🏔🌨
kya baat sandhya ji !! mai bhi soch raha hoon russia mai university join karu, aerospace engineering k liye
Love that weather too !In Romania used to have very cold winters ,now less but still gode minus 😅I love it when it’s -25
A menina, linda é tua filha 😊
A menina , linda é tua filha 😊
Russians are so tough, dont mess with them loved the video as usual
Какие у нас люди прекрасные, добрые, умные, потрясающие
Eli thanks again, for your explorations of the cold (I used to live in Alaska = Аляска) I really appreciate it.
I think you are doing more to ease East/West tensions than all the politicians combined.
Ofcourse, politicians only make tensions that didn't exist.
I agree! Greetings from Eau Claire, Wisconsin USA. KEEP UP YOUR WONDERFUL VIDEOS, ELI!!!
Please stop Russian people killing innocent women and children in Ukraine...you need to change your principles and to stop the russian army firing at women and children. The russians need to stand up and stop the war. Otherwise i will get in my car from Ireland and drive to ukraine as a woman to also stand up against the russian war
I actually like Russians to be honest. I just don't like Russians who support the war... for obvious reasons.
On the east coast of Canada where i lived till i was 30 it gets cold, the lakes freeze, quite often lots of snow, 4 seasons, an average of -10c in winter, 30c in summer, now i live on the west coast of Canada and we don't have much snow, no lakes freeze, 2 seasons, rainy in winter, little rain in summer, 5c average winter, 22c in summer, i do miss all the winter fun outside from the east coast, now i want to move to Sochi lol
Being Canadian,I can relate. As kids, we didn't have cold days at school, but did have snow days where we had so much snow vehicles had trouble moving. Us kids, always went out to play hockey after cleaning the ice or building snow forts.
I like the Russian kid skating around with a hockey stick and slap shotting the puck against the wall, that was cool. Hopefully he has more kids to play hockey with.
I dressed like this when I lived in the interior of Alaska..
I just started to learn Russian kind of as a hobby. I don't know much yet, but it is nice to be able to understand some phrases and words. It is surely a language that we hardly get exposed to here in Europe.
Привет !!!
You shouldnt learn russian. Its the language of primitive people

Your niece is very sweet 😍
Wow!! Amazing red haired family. I so love your videos , they are relaxing and informative. Greetings from Las Vegas !
Peace be upon those who follow Guidance, may God protect your pretty little nieces!
Lots of love for Russia from the 🇬🇧
Grew up in Canada & do not recall a cold day/snow day out of school even at 40 below F. Live in Texas now and we get 3 to 5 days of winter a year, and that makes these old bones happy.
Being a Brazilian guy myself I find it most amazing. I've never any snow in my life and probably never will. This cold weather would be deadly to me.
Anyway, Eli, you're a very beautiful woman! I love you.
Wonderful to see the children laughing, and playing outside, even in the cold. So precious! I grew up on a farm in northeast Wisconsin. We have cold winters in the Upper Midwest, but as you say, the secret is several layers of comfortable clothing. I have been studying the book series, “Russian for Dummies”. I will investigate Rosetta Stone, as you suggest. I enjoy autumn the best; lower humidity, and the mosquitoes go away. Please know your bright spirit can warm-up even the coldest day. Health and prosperity for you. ❤️🇷🇺
Without harsh winter you cant feel real spring :)
Wonderful video Eli😁
Hi, Eli!
Despite the Winter cold, your warmth always shines through, I love your channel.
My wish for 2022, is that love and understanding will increase between the people of America and Russia.
Regular folks are alright on both sides, the politicians are to blame (and deserve a solid beating)!
@@dimidochev2530 Totally agree!
That year round market is awesome, and that lady with the vest had some big boots for big socks that are key to toe survival. Thank you fun to watch video.
It has to be -30°C for the kids to get the day off school?!!, good grief I cant imagine that amount of cold 🥶
Awww your niece and nephew!!!Sooo precious they are😍 💖! Hi brazilian🇧🇷/🇺🇲american woman🖐!!!
Hello Eli, I just discovered your channel. I am a former civil servant and educator who just recently retired. I am from the USA. I live in the State of Kansas. Kansas is very flat and over 90% of the land is used for agriculture. Much like the steppe in your country. Our winters are not as cold as yours. But we do get cold days here. But it gets to 40 Celsius or more in the summertime. When schools get cancelled due to too much snow or extreme cold. Our children do the same thing as your children do. I learned German as a boy from my elder relatives who were of German heritage. I learned Spanish in University. This is the most useful Non English language in America. Particularly if your work for the government or you are an educator. You have a wonderful channel. Take care.
Maine, U.S.A. can be very cold and snowy. I am a teacher and my school was cancelled
today due to dangerous road conditions. I live an hour away from school and most of our
students live in rural areas so they have long bus rides each day. We will have to make this
day up in the summer.
I used to live in Minneapolis. And back in the 90s, when I lived there, it usually had one week in the winter when it was -25C during the day.
Thanks for this wonderful video! You're so beautiful, keep safe👍♥️
Hi I am Catherine from Brussels in Belgium. Here we have same weather all year ( around 10 C). I would like real seasons like in Russia! Thank you for the video.
I once had the pleasure of landing during a 3 day blizzard in Moscow. My hotel was in Ismailova. I arrived 10 am in the morning and finally got to Partizansky metro station about 7 pm. Traffic was horrid. I remember struggling with my baggage through drifts of snow 3 feet deep to the hotel Gamma. Halfway there I noticed some street dogs watching me from a sheltered entrance to a store. I wondered if they were laughing at me, feeling sorry or wondering if they should finish me off in an act of mercy.
I still love Russias winters, They're the real thing. I recommend anyone to go experience one.
Go experience a Russian winter? I don't have to go all the way to Russia for that. North America is just eastern Russia with a very slight warming.
@@Ric9hardify Until you have seen a Russian church with a fresh layer of snow you are missing out. St Basil's in snow is unforgettable.
Eli beautiful place too cold though, you have a lovely family. Your niece and nephew are so cute especially little Diana a mini you lol xx cute cute cute xxx
Surprise to see the out door market in the Winter. This year I drove to work 3 degree F . Work outside but working kept me warm.
Thank you for risking the freezing cold to give us more interesting knowledge of Russia. You are strong! We appreciate your work. But always take care. Put yourself first and don't take risks you don't need to take.
Here, in England, winters are milder than they used to be. We don't see snow so often.
It is good that you keep comfortable and warm. And it's also good to see happy healthy children enjoying themselves. Keep warm always and thank you for doing what you do for us.
I was blessed with a love of languages early from my mom who was born in Russia. One of the first languages that i learned other than Russian and English was Spanish. It has opened so many doors for me personally and professionally that I couldnt imagine how my life would be without knowing it. Language has NEVER been something negative and will always open doors for you too!
I’m a summer guy. It snowed here in Texas and is 27 degrees right now which is cold enough for me. Sorry!
@@ElifromRussia My hat's off to you for learning foreign languages. I couldn't learn a foreign language if my life depended on it.
Please stop Russian people killing innocent women and children in Ukraine...you need to change your principles and to stop the russian army firing at women and children. Imagined winters just the way you showed in your video .. cold, fun ,lots of shopping and eating😋😋 winters are the bessstttt ☺️☺️
Eli may be the loveliest woman i've ever seen, such a sweet demeanor and laugh :)
Regarding learning languages, I would like to share my experience with Russian and Italian. I learned Russian the hard way, without the computer. After many years I still could not speak in Russian. But many years later I still remember everything that I learned in Russian. With Italian it was different, I learned it by teaching, by going with my class through the book and I was ahead two chapters, studying first myself, then teaching it to the small group. I was able to speak Italian after 6 months. I was almost fluent. However, after I left Italy and never used the language, I completely forgot what I learned. Now I know the benefit of hard work: it stays longer in our head if we put more effort during the learning process.
I still remember that feeling being there in Perm... with your video, it flashed all the best moments when I was there. People are hospitable and extremely polite... my only downside is I cannot speak Russian so only few I managed to talked with. Kudos to your videos, love it!!!
Ohhh , ice skating, relaxing for me.
Hi Eli, you have a pleasant voice with a very nice accent, I enjoy listening to you when you speak. Thanks again. 👏🧡👍
Eli great video and your red hair is beautiful, 😍, learning other languages and travel really does open up everyones world. The Russian people just get on with life no matter what the weather, here in the uk if there is snow people think that the world is coming to a end!!. Russia looks beautiful
Dear Eli you are a very special and highly intelligent person bringing great warmth and understanding to your very informative videos about life in Russia, I do hope we can all end up being much closer to one another as friends, keep up the good work, I am sure that all the people in the UK wish the same.
Hello from Rhode Island USA we enjoy your videos on life in Russia my 14 year old daughter was born in Novokuznetsk we enjoy learning about life in Russia we haven’t been since 2019 hope to come back this year thanks Paul
Lovely to hear you laughing with niece and nephew, and see your smiling face, families make you happy, from Uk🥰
Learn English change my life because many opportunities in all matters but learning Russian language changed my life perspective, values and personal life.
I will test that app for Russian language and to learn Swedish. Thank you! I love your videos!!!
It's amazing seeing people especially young children playing, working and having fun outside in freezing conditions. Previously i thought people would stay inside in extreme cold.
Moreover,I also love to live at a place with changing weathers. We have all five weathers at Lahore, Pakistan.
In most part Russia it is not an extreme cold, but usual weather in winter. When I was a child I was playing hockey and walking with my friends in such weather.
Your nephew is the next Pavel Bure !
-22 C, 30, 40 ... I can't even imagine how that should feel. I believe -10 with a windchill is the coldest i ever experienced.
I love winter, the dark hours and the cold, fresh air. The best ! Better than summer.
Saying hello from Perth, Australia yesterday the temperature here was 42C. Wouldn't mind some of that snow and ice. Nice show mate. Russia is a country that always intrigues us Australians.
Love RUSSIA 💖💖💖💖💖💖
I love spring, the resurgence of life in both people and nature.
Yeah, my son is gonna love his little farm acreage😎
Another great video, as always!
Endlessly fascinating. 😍🤩😍
Great video! A wonderful look at a distant people. Here in Southern California the seasons don’t really change, and by that I mean the scenery stays about the same. It will get a little greener for a bit in the spring and in the winter the mountains get snow capped but other then that very little change. The temperature is the biggest change, alternating in winter from just below freezing (30F/-1C) to, (and depending where you are) brutally hot (115F/46C) in the summer. I actually live a short drive from Death Valley so I guess you could say we are almost the opposite in climates, you get really cold and we get really hot. I very much like the cold more, you can always put more cloths on to get warm, and like my Grandma used to say; “You don’t want to see me if I have to take enough stuff off!”. I love traveling and it would be an interesting experience to visit to experience the Legendary Russian Winter. Likewise if you ever visit SoCal in the summer, send me a message and I’ll gladly give you a few pointers on surviving the Heat! Stay Warm, Stay Safe, and Stay Wonderful!
Wow so cold. I do love when the seasons change! It’s nice to experience the changes in season, and enjoy what each season has to offer and explore. 😊
Enjoyed learning about your life in Perm. Certainly it was very informative and also stereotype busting, these videos are very eye opening. Also you are beautiful with that red hair. I’m watching from Kentucky, USA. 👍🏼👍🏼
Extreme winter looks a beautiful but very tough to stay.Tough life and hard working people
+40 in summer in India seems more extremely for us😏
Wonderful video!!! It's easy to see why Russian ice skaters command such high respect in the world because of the fun of winter activities!!
Beautiful video. To us it looks like a fairyland as we in India can see snow only in hill stations. 👌👍🏾
Wonderful video, much better than Tv, congratulations from Spain!
Wonderful video done by you, Elina.
Greetings Eli, my lovely distant cousin. Many years ago I worked at an ice cream factory, where the storage warehouse was kept at a constant -35¯C. One Friday afternoon a team from the local university arrived, with all their equipment, for 60 hours of training, camping in the deep frozen warehouse from Friday until Monday morning, in preparation for their upcoming Antarctic expedition. To put this in perspective, I grew up in a part of Australia where +18¯C is considered cold. When the participants emerged from the freezer on Monday morning, the looks on their faces said that maybe some of them were having second thoughts about Antarctica. But it's true, frozen air is always fresh because there is zero humidity, all the moisture has fallen to the ground.
It takes time to acclimatize, I'm not sure what they would learn from that. Your metabolism functions differently in extreme cold but it takes some time to happen.
@@steven-k. I think it's more of a case of letting them know what they were in for. Truth is, the accommodations for scientists down there are fairly luxurious, with a ton of protocols in place for field trips. For me? No thank you, I can "live" the cold vicariously through Eli and her family 😊 I'm actually retiring in the tropics... so much for my Celtic Viking blood haha.
Too right!!
There isn't anything more beautiful than winter with snow. Cold weather just makes coffee and food taste even better. I love winter with cold and snow. Great video, Eli!
Thanks for the video! Looks very much fun to have winter in Perm! ;)
Not funny at all. 2021 Feb was -28. So cold even for me as for native Perm guy😅 in fact it is quite boring city. Yekaterinburg and Kazan are more interesting for tourists. But Perm region is very beautiful and filled with amazing landscapes.
I love the hat! Hopefully you purchased it!
The coldness depends not only on the temperature, but also on wind & moisture. Even -5 degrees can feel really cold if it is windy.
The city feels very alive, and you clearly got good public transport with terminal and people waiting for the bus. Quite nice!
first of all your niece and nephew are so adorable haha they are so cute and happy children. as for seasons: as you said it, i could not imagine either living somewhere where seasons don't change, there is some beauty in each and every of them, although here in Germany winters don't get as extremely cold as in Russia but still i like the snow and coziness at home :) it is much more unbearable to me when it's like 30 degrees celsius :D
Here in Thailand we have warm to hot weather most of the year. Our "winter" time is now, almost finishing. But if you come here in "winter" you will be shocked, because it is like your summer! Many Russians love coming to Thailand.
When this type of environment is yours everyday life, then here in Bangladesh🇧🇩 we dream a day in this icy environment!! The cafe, the road, the market everywhere this icy vibe is just beautiful!!
I grew up in cold and ice skating - we learned to skate really young using a chair for balance. Very fond memories of growing up next to a lake where we could skate almost every day. Now... I live in a very warm state - never snows - and I love it. Now that I am older, I don't tolerate the cold well. So amazing those people working all day in an outdoor market when it is that cold.l
Where did you grow up? That sounds amazing!!! I am in the United States too.
I just love your videos and watching them feels like i am seeing russia with my own eyes.Russia is such a beautifull place and thank u for showing us beauty of russia.
Hi, Eli. I love your channel and have been watching your videos for a long time. I didn't know you were from Perm, and now I suddenly see the neighborhood at Vishka 2, where I grew up!!! This is amazing!
I agree with you about seasons. Born in Northern Minnesota...lived in Arizona for 15 boring weather years and moved back to Minnesota for the snow/cold and huge lakes.
Thank you Elina for sharing Perm life in winter. Now i am actually waiting for your next release of video. Children are even playing!
I live in a country where it doesn't get colder than 15C degrees on average and that's cold for me, its really interesting to see a real winter
Ice Queen gang💪🏽
At my place it's cold but not as much as yours.as a learner i want to learn russian.tnx i will try this app.your videos are always wonderful.luv from India.
Glad to see a new video from Eli 🙂
I can feel the Zeal and Love in Peoples Hearts during freezing temperature. Hope to have more Traveling opportunities between Russia and Pakistan in future. Love from Pakistan
Thank you sharing this beautiful video in such a cold situation, especially for those poor street vendors at the market, as I cannot immagine how they can be out all day, but certainly joyful for the children, like your cute niece and nephew who seem to have fun in the snow. The Russians, differently from other peoples are used to it and I also think that each season, even the coldest one, is wonderful. Great video as usual
you are such a good aunt! Your niece and nephew are adorable
Eli, this is one of the coolest videos you've ever made! (Pun intended.)
Hi Eli, I love your channel, it's amazing. I always imagined people adapt, they endure and go about their daily lives, whatever the weather, whichever part of the world.
The Russian culture, it's people is beautiful and the way you portray this with so much insight to the people watching your channel, makes me feel I am there in person in this amazing part of the world.

Fascinating country, pretty girl, and cute cat - its three videos in one! Bonus!
🐈⬛
I go pretty nice along with winter, snow and summer. Snow and clear air about - 15 - 25 c° and toward mighty light summer with bright greenish awakening. Nice hat. Allthough every of those go along nicely with you😊
Thank you, what a beautiful place in winter.
I remember getting my first sitting sled like @4:15 when I was a little kid in Moscow. It was the most exciting thing I think....ever.
I can feel the chill just watching!! Nice video. Currently in Northeast Massachusetts USA we are in a snow and ice storm. 4 distinct seasons here. Hot humid summers, glorious and colorful autumns, nasty winters and rainy blooming springs. Looking forward to the Yakutsk vids. Stay safe and warm.
Fascinating. Another world for those living in a temperate to warm climate - like Australia. Very professional videos and your English is excellent.
I like all the 😋 fruit at the market.
I like all four seasons!!! They each serve a purpose and each season has something very different to offer!!!
Your niece and nephew are professional 😂🤣skaters already!! I like that hat you tried on. Did you decide to buy 🤔 it??
Did you get the fashionable hat? It looked good!
My favorite season here? Spring. In the summer it gets over 45C in the daytime and 32C at night. In the spring, the weather is beautiful and temperatures are in the mid 20s C. If we get rains, we also have many wildflowers and the desert changes colors because of it.
Very nice video of a winter day with interviews. Loved those floating labels - seems to be a new video technique added to your skillet.
When I started learning Polish and Lithuanian, the thing I discovered most is how little I understood the structure of my native English language which made conjugations all the more challenging. For instance, the first time I saw "genitive case", I thought, "what on earth is that?" 🥴
Everywhere in the world children love outdoors in winter , at least as I enjoyed winter time in childhood.
Kids are adorable.
Russians are hardy people I'd say. It doesn't get extremely cold here in Michigan, but cold enough to hurt. The worst part of Michigan winter in the opinion of many is the lack of sunshine. Dreary and depressing. Happy kids playing in the snow brightens things up. Your niece and nephew are adorable.
Eli we love watching your channel, and I'm going to explore that intriguing offer from Rosetta Stone.
The scenes of you putting on layers to go outside in winter reminded me so much of how we do it here in Baltimore, Maryland. The bus scene was just like when my wife goes to work on business. Please keep up the good work, you are a great diplomatic representative of everyday people.
Weather in Baltimore MD is the same as in the Caucasus, the southernmost region of Russia. Very different from Perm. My school in southern Russia was never canceled because of snow. No matter how much snow, it wasn't too cold. My kids' school in Baltimore County is constantly canceled, the last time it was because of rain and the probability of ice, and it didn't even rain. No comparison.
Please stop Russian people killing innocent women and children in Ukraine...you need to change your principles and to stop the russian army firing at women and children. The russians need to stand up and stop the war. Otherwise i will get in my car from Ireland and drive to ukraine as a woman to also stand up against the russian war
Your hosting is informative, undramatized, open minded, and progressive. I'm glad to get this honest window into a complex country most often represented narrowly and fictitiously in the States
