    This one is a long one so some initial thoughts.
    1. The timer ticks down faster on the Saturn version
    2. There is some slowdown on the Playstation version especially when a lot of actions and props are on screen.
    3. The Whale stage has foreground elements. However the Playstation version has a animated background layer to give the illusion of movement and vibration of being inside a whale.
    4. The Playstation music tracks are seamless. The Saturn's music stops followed by pause then restarts.

      The timer thing actually just looks like every level starts a little earlier in the Saturn version, so the timer is always about half a second ahead compared to the PlayStation footage. Now, do we put that down to more loading on PlayStation to start the level, or just bad syncing of exactly when the levels start and end in each version by the video creator?
      The only level I did notice where the timer clearly fell behind in one version was the roller-coaster stage, which is actually auto-scrolling and therefor not dependant on how long the player takes to make their way through the stage. There it was actually the Saturn version that lost time, meaning it must have suffered more slowdown. And that's despite the PlayStation version additionally rendering shadows on the player and all the enemies at all times there.
      But that's just my observation there.

      Your comparison is ridiculous in every way John, want to know why? I would know, since I've been gaming before say like, 1980. The Saturn version is superior in every way, and I mean every. While the PS1 has some decent 2D games, it is nothing compared to the Sega Saturn library of games. Never mind the 3D games on the Saturn that wouldn't run in a million years on the PS1, I could give examples all day. Like Panzer Dragoon 2, but that will be pointless. And while I may have spent many an hour playing Tekken games on the PS1, or many others. The Saturn was, and is, more powerful in every single way. I've spent countless hours on each system for the last 25 years, I know exactly what I'm talking about.

    Thoughts Part 2
    1. The roller coaster on Saturn version has 2 tracks while Playstation version has 4.
    2. The magma in the mine stage has a smoother animation on the Playstation version. The Saturn version there are rough edges of the image repeating.
    3. World 4 the clouds are closer on the Saturn version.
    4. World 5 the saws on Saturn version move in almost unison. While gates have more cross bars. The Playstation version the saws move at different lengths. The gates have wider openings.

      @@mushra50compared to what kid? Have you ever owned a Saturn? Have you been gaming for more than 33 years like me? No, you haven't, it's that simple. Let me tell you that many 3D games on the Saturn would never run on PS1 hardware, it simply can't handle it. And while the Saturn had complicated architecture, it was, and more powerful in every way. For example, go play a game like Panzer Dragoon 2. And tell me what you think afterwards, because it's one of many 3D games that wouldn't run on the PS1 in a million years. I've spent God knows how many hours on both systems for the last 25 years, so I know exactly what I'm talking about. And you don't, I've forgotten more than you'll ever know son.

    • @Medachod
      @Medachod Před měsícem

      @@derekbuckler9888 They tried porting Radiant Silvergun as well to no avail.
      Also, I would make the argument that, thanks to the simpler architecture of the PSX for devs, it's worthwhile to redo a game from the ground up. Well it's true porting games is much more challenging from the Saturn, they probably would go through the trouble to instead make a new PSX version. Especially knowing the sale rate has a high enough chance to make their work back and more.
      Nowadays, thanks to said simplicity, a handful of the more popular PSX versions of Saturn titles end up being picked for compilations. Though it does suck since the Saturn ones are definitely superior.

    • @derekbuckler9888
      @derekbuckler9888 Před měsícem +1

      @@mushra50 I don't agree, sorry, but I don't. I have both systems, and the Saturn's VDP engine is quite impressive. Again, if you haven't played any Saturn games. Then you would understand what I'm saying, you can look that up on the internet all you want. Granted, your entitled to your opinion. But the Saturn on many occasions showed superior 3D capabilities, like the Panzer Dragoon series.

    The PlayStation version has the proper transparency throughout, whereas the Saturn is stuck with that dithering.
    There's two places I could notice for sure unintended slowdown:
    1. The roller-coaster stage, where, even though the Saturn footage starts a little earlier as per usual, the PlayStation version ends sooner. And this is relevant because it's really the only stage I noticed is auto-scrolling, which means it's not the person playing who determines how sooner or later they get to the end of the stage or the next checkpoint. So that's clearly a result of more slowdown on Saturn. And this is despite the PlayStation version showing more tracks on the roller-coaster and shadows on the player and all the enemies, which the Saturn version doesn't have there.
    2. The later stage with the multiple swinging spike balls on chains, where they clearly slow down much more on Saturn anytime they smash into a bunch of enemies.
    Other than that they look about the same to me, with the possibility they maybe set the player movement a tiny bit faster by default on Saturn, the PlayStation version is maybe using slightly more/nicer colours at times, and I prefer the Saturn's level intros and the moving background in the player select screen.
    I have my sound off, so I can't tell if there's any differences there.

    As usual, Saturn struggles with handling transparency effects between sprites. When viewing the sea in Saturn's version, the image isn't smooth. This is similar to the issue with the Genesis when playing Mortal Kombat, the shadows of the characters aren't as smooth as they are on the SNES. Despite these technical shortcomings, I still love Sega, though there were a few things that needed adjustment.
