    (4:06) ...About the Desert Lizard Shocks.

      They're gone now, banished to a plastic box on the shelf. Might put them back on the Sherpa now though.

    Curious what you think about the Dravtech shocks vs the Desert Lizards you had on before the change.

    • @PhilBrindley
      @PhilBrindley  Před rokem +2

      Too early to tell if they are better performing, but on the bench I’d say they feel better than the lizards. Certainly smoother and easier to set up. I was never really sure if I had the lizards set up correctly, but these feel like I have them spot on. Will update on performance very soon! Promise 🤙

      ...The DravTech Shocks were built "for comps", as the Desert Lizards are "used in comps", but were originally built "for scale looks" and some people that "comp" wanted to have "a droop set-up", which allows for "axle-drop", so that the tires can reach down & make contact with whatever surface is being used !!!

    Great video Phil! - I have the same 3D printed bed on my GSpeed Element....Do you get any interference from the top of the diff hitting the bottom of the bed under full compression (or a bit before)?

    • @PhilBrindley
      @PhilBrindley  Před rokem

      Hi Shoky and thanks. Just had a quick look and my shocks are bottoming out before the diff or high clearance links hit the bed. There is only about 1mm clearance for the links though. Which stocks are you using? Must have a bit more travel than these Dravtechs.
      Don’t think it’s a huge issue so long as you get the flex you want, very rare that you’ll bottom out both sides of the rear at the same time I would think. 🤙

      @@PhilBrindley Cheers Phil - I'm using the stock Element shocks with mini-t springs and 3d printed spring cups. I think you're correct on both counts....probably a tad too much travel and both compressing would be a very low %
      P.S - those JConcepts Creep cab only
      bodies were as rare as hen's teethup to fairly recently....I like yours!

      @@shoky11TV I like the idea of using mini-t springs with the element shocks. Could always add a small spacer to the shock shaft to limit the travel if it becomes a problem.

    Thanks for the video, I followed along to build my shocks. I have a similar rig to yours. I have soft springs and 100cst oil. I find I can compress the shocks half way and the truck will stay at that height, it doesn't sink down or raise up on the shocks.. is this normal, do you know?

    • @PhilBrindley
      @PhilBrindley  Před rokem +1

      100cst or 100wt? 100cst would be too thin and 100wt too thick. Strange though, if you lift the truck off the ground to fully extend the shocks, does it sink back to halfway when you put it back down? I get very little rebound on mine unless I bottom them out, at which point they rise back up to about halfway, which is where I like them. You don’t want them rebounding all the way back up as that will affect the performance.

    • @adamreturns1
      @adamreturns1 Před rokem

      @@PhilBrindley 100cst. Originally built with 25wt and the shocks didn't really move unless pushed or pulled. If I pick it up, the shocks extend, when I put it down it stays at that height. No sag. When pushed into the ground, it stays low. The fronts move back up maybe 2mm from spring pressure.. shocks are only days old and they feel quite stiff sliding through the seals. Maybe they'll bed in..

    • @PhilBrindley
      @PhilBrindley  Před rokem +1

      @@adamreturns1 did you use any green slime on the seals? They should be pretty smooth out of the box really and I would expect them to sink with soft springs and that oil. Maybe give them a run and see if they need in, or reach out to dravtech and see what they think.

    • @adamreturns1
      @adamreturns1 Před rokem

      @@PhilBrindley I did use some green slime, maybe that was the issue. I've just stripped them all and rebuilt the seal bundles, they are softer now.. and I hate that stupid spring clip retainer. When I pick it up the axles drop nicely, when put on the ground it sags about 30%. When pushed into the floor it barely rises, but it is definitely better. Thanks for taking the time to reply, Phil. Much appreciated 👍
