Old Rusted Hand Drill - Restoration - WorkshopDC
    Hello how are you?
In today's video I show how I restored a hand drill.
My microphone had a problem so you may notice some parts of the video with very low audio or no audio.
I didn't find any information about this part, but I know it's from the 60's and has 3 speeds.
I started disassembling the piece by the covers, which had only 2 screws holding it.
After that I released all the pins and gears inside the drill body.
I noticed that one of the plastic gears was broken.
With everything dismantled, I washed and brushed all the parts with degreaser and left it in hot water to remove any oil residue.
With all the parts clean I can now remove the rust with water and hydrochloric acid.
For the pins, I did cold oxidation, and put them in the oil for 1 day.
On the iron parts I brushed with steel sponge and polished the main stem.
The plastic handle had some cracks so I glued them with super glue and sanded it on the drill.
The covers were painted yellow, the body and base metallic gray, 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint were used on each piece.
I fixed some imperfections on the plastic gears and redid the missing teeth on one of them with super glue.
I also made a wooden handle similar to the plastic one to put on the new crank I bought on the internet.
With everything ready you can assemble the drill and test it for you to see how it works.
I also put in a new chuck since it don't have one.
It works well but it takes a lot of work to make a hole in the wood.

Very nice job man! I want to know who in the world thought that plastic gears in a drill like this was a good idea, I thought they were just covered in yellow grease until you cleaned them up 😆

The gears could be made by Steel.

Fantastic work mate. I have one of these drills waiting for restoration and have watched dozens of these restoration videos. I have never seen plastic gears before. Obviously yours was built with light duties in mind.
Great job. Looking forward to seeing your next project.

Oh..steel wool is doing a good job. I was wondering why you didn't use sand paper, but that would reduce the diameter and wouldn't fit the gears anymore 👏

Essas furadeiras são muito interessantes; bom que você trocou o mandril, o original é ruim, desmancha fácil.

Good afternoon. 1. The mechanism gets stuck... 2. There are a lot of unfinished scratches on the Metal, it was necessary to clean it more thoroughly. There's a hole left on the yellow lid. Shestirenki had to be cleaned and refined so that it would not get stuck. It was possible to lighten them with an ultraviolet lamp and hydrogen peroxide. Generally work on 3-. Fix the bugs and we are waiting for a new video.
