Old Rusted Coffee Grinder - Restoration - Workshop DC
Hello guys! How are you doing?
In today's video I show you how to restore an old rusty coffee grinder.
I don't know what year this grinder was produced, the only information I know is that it was manufactured by the Mimoso brand, which produced very high quality grinders here in Brazil.
The first part to be removed was the rubber barrel placed to protect the wooden dagger that was broken.
I brush the screw that holds the grinder to the table and remove it with my hands, it was not difficult to take it off.
Then I removed with a file the shaft that holds the wooden dagger.
As you can see it is all rusty inside and out, so I decided to brush the surface and screws.
The original color of the grinder appears little on my camera, its color is blue.
I didn't want to remove the screws as they could break, so I put the grinder in vinegar to take it apart later.
After 2 days in the vinegar I removed the grinder, then washed everything and brushed it with hot water and washing powder.
With the dry grinder I was able to dismantle it more easily, all the screws and crank will come out without much effort.
After everything was dismantled, I started to restore it, removing the forge marks with a file.
With all the imperfections were removed, I brushed all the parts with a steel brush, the rust was deeper than I imagined.
I used blue hammered paint, 2 coats on each painted part. (Some spots turned orange because I had to wash the pieces before painting)
I decided to restore the original wooden handle, glued the broken part and left it in the vise for 1 day, after that I sanded it on lathe with 100G to 400G and applied wax to hydrate the wood and give it shine.
The rod that holds the wooden handle was bent so I unbent it in the vise.
The inner grinder had two cracks so I bought a new part to replace the old one.
With all the parts removed, I started to assemble. I painted all the letters with silver paint.
The Mr.Fox didn't show up to help me with the restoration because he was taking a shower, but in the end he was happy with the result.

Thanks Mate! ❤️
A bit late, but nice job bringing that heap of rust into a grinder someone would actually be willing to put to use! I love this shade of blue hammered paint, now if I could just find it in a can to make it a bit easier to apply haha. Keep up the good work ❤
Thanks a lot Bro! ❤️

Very cool coffee grinder 👍 I love the fact you repaired the handle keeping it original rather than replacing it. Turned out excellent.

Muito bem restaurado 👏👏👏👏🇧🇷🍀 PARABÉNS 👍
Muito obrigado Tarcilio! ❤️
It’s a beautiful restoration, well done. Do you have a way of spraying the paint on the parts? I find spraying always gives a much better hammered texture rather than using a brush.
Thanks! I didn't have the machine to spray the Paint, but hammered texture really looks better with spray. ❤️
@@WorkshopDC Hmmmhmh ... may be you can use a small airbrush like we use it in modeling - with a cheap compressor and thinned colour... ?
Belo trabalho!
Additional : If you use am brush maybe you will get better results when using a smaller brush with soft hair and a rounded shape and the colour in 2 or 3 thin coats ... ?
The Surface in some areas are not straight so the hammered effect will not appears even If i use a smaller brush to paint. Thanks for Watching! ❤️
Nice video.
Just wondering, do you have jaundice?
Thanks! The color corretion on the video makes my skin looks yellow, I'm Brazilian so my skin is not white hehe'
no coffe... is seasoning
like from Brazil.
Here where I live in Brazil, this grinder is used to make coffee powder. Thanks Canedo! ❤️
@@WorkshopDC error 😨... is coffe. 👍👍👍correct.
The only English error I spotted was the screws "might broke." The correct would be, "might break," or, "might get broken." I see you injured your hand. I hope it heals well.
Thanks Dori! ❤
Cascorez melhor que Titebond!
