one of the funniest bits of television ever. I remember being so excited that Carter were actually being shown on tv, jumping about in front of the telly singing along, then cracking up when Fruity jumped on Mr Schofield. Tremendous!
I was at the Glasgow gig they did just after this appearance. They came on early for their encore, encouraged by the crowd chanting, "Philip Scholfield, you're a wanker, you're a wanker" etc. Ah, we're an erudite bunch, the Scots. They seemed to enjoy it though...
Carter were one of the bast bands to come out of the 80's. I have all their original 12" EP's. Must go and put Granny Farming on tonight..... PS deserved that slap.
F`kin Brilliant!! Love Carter with a passion, always with a message, intelligent wordplay, great tunes and sing-alonga choruses, will never tire of em!!
hmm i remember this being so much more than just insults that set off FRUITBAT. They agreed to play live which it clearly wasn't and also agreed it would be the full song which was then cut short. no wonder he was pissed
They are still around! They do Carter reunion gigs every now and then, check out some of the clips from this years anniversary gigs in Kentish Town and Brixton-I went to both nights and they were awesome!! Jimbob is doing solo stuff and has a book out soon, Fruitbat plays in Abdoujaparov. Hopefully they'll be back soon with more Carter gigs. :)
Served him right...this is going straight into my favourites. Carter USM were one of the best things to happen to British music. And I speak as a Briton.
I was actually there!!! me and my friend thought it was part of the act at first until we saw security running on! You do actually see a split second of me and my friend cos we were up the side where the camera immediately goes to cos the cameras go straight into the audience.....
I was actually there!! We saw security running onto the stage and the cameras cut into the audience. You do actually see a split second of myself and my friend as we were in that block! We've never forgotten it.
Watching for the first time in ages, I can now see something Jimbob described in an interview - what caused the song to be faded out so suddenly was Fruitbat kicking his microphone stand into the audience, where it reportedly hit a child (3:01).
Brilliant, great to see this again. Anyone remember the following year? At the end the presenter (was it Simon Mayo?) thanked Carter for not coming. Weird to think now but I remember Jackie magazine having a Carter poster and Just 17 having an interview with them.
2009 Carter USM to give 2 gigs in London this year on November 13, 2009, they will be on stage at the HMV Forum, London Kentish Town, while on the next day they will be on stage at O2 Academy, Brixton. Their first four albums will be performed in their entirety. First night they will be playing 1992: THE LOVE ALBUM and POST HISTORIC MONSTERS and the second night they will be playing 101 DAMNATIONS & 30 SOMETHING. rumored to be the last Carter shows for a while/ever
Good on schofield wishing the lads good luck for the final comedown gigs - so sad that that's it ______________ or is it ? Thanks for the memories and the gigs mr Bob and Mr bat Hello good evening welcome and goodbye ! YFB !!!!!!!
Definately my brother was friends with them and i grew up as a teenager listening to my brother playing there albums i think there quality and massively underated as you say love them 👍
@Hero87 What is so good about um is that they didn't give a toss if they made it or not. The fact they didn't really hit it big means they are still going today in 2011. Also Carter gigs are the best I've experienced. I would honestly prefer to go to a 5000 strong carter gig than 50000 at a stadium with anyone else cause the roof comes off both from the band and the crowd :-) I'm not knocking others just saying that Carter still shine bright today
Schofield deserved that. Fruitbat should have gone in harder. Carter USM are one of my favourite bands ever, and Schofield couldn't even get their names right.
Pure Genius... I still don't know why Carter were on the Smash Hits, they hardly fit the bill but Schofield got what he deserved, the smug bastard... Jim Bob's new stuff is excellent, still way ahead of the pack, it's a shame he doesn't seem to get the acclaim he probably deserves!!!
Six of one, half a dozen of the other here. No doubt on the strengths of having a hit single "pop anarchists" Carters corporate record company want them to appear at BBCs request on this kids Christmas show as sponsored by a kids crappy pop magazine, whereby as much as Schofield is a cock is always going to attempt witty sarcasm for the kids and parents attending. The band mime, none of the amps are plugged in, towards the end of the song fruit bat decides to get all "anarchistic" and kicks a mic stand over the stage. No doubt not knowing what the band intend to do next and for "childrens safety" a few seconds later the song fades early. Carter USM then get all miffed for having it faded early (when looking at it, it was their fault) and proceed to kick over the amps, queue Schofield who is going to play the whole strop thing down with another cocky sarcastic comment for the kids and no doubt on a whim fruitbat thinks about doing something to make it a little bit more "controversial" by playfully bringing down Schofield to the ground which is genuinely funny. Hardly was anarchy in the UK!
Carter used synth beats in every performance. Listen to the every word that has the letter "S" in it and tell me again Jim Bob didnt sing this live.... Looks like they have bouncers standing at the side of the stage - not for the kids in the audience, but to ensure that Carter USM don't swear at the end of the song.. A backhanded compliment before the perfromance, cutting the song short and bouncers on the stage - no respect was shown to Carter.
i feel for fruity performing for those c""s at Brits , look at Sam smith this year ,,, well done fruity jarvis and klf , you didn't embarrass yourselves
Played that night at Nottingham's Rock City. This was filmed lunch time and then straight up to sound check at Nottingham. Frosty on stage after they had a fall out! Crazy gig at Rock City though. Could have finished them but helped make them. You fat wot? ;-)
not sure there was any real aggression in that, hardly "beat up" as the title says. i remember this incident, and i was a fan back in the day. phillips comments were bound to provoke some sort of response. its people like that i don't like. say something insulting with an innocent smile then wonder why the reaction.....it could have been worse
Wish someone would properly smack him in the mouth live in his morning show, Falklands vet or someone like that who he makes a patronising comment to, would love it.
Phillip was disappointed that it was a man, and not a young boy.
Singing about children getting abused, being real AF then punching Schofield. Best band ever
He didn't punch him.....he was probably too scared to😂
@@Loveisgod54321 Seemed like more of a hug really, like he was really please to see him.
Schofield would know all about child abuse
‘I think they’re still smashing it up the back somewhere’
You wish Phil, you wish…
saw them live years ago, amazing
one of the funniest bits of television ever. I remember being so excited that Carter were actually being shown on tv, jumping about in front of the telly singing along, then cracking up when Fruity jumped on Mr Schofield. Tremendous!
This has aged well 🫢

Queue jump that one Schofield! 😅🤣😂
Un-rugged squeak from Schofield on impact. At least he can just tip the piss out of that armour
Anyone here since the allegations?!

Seeing Uncle Fruity with his new band at Thorfest tomorrow! Can't wait! 🤘
In retrospect Schofield deserved more

"Blimey, that was original!"
Thanks so much for this. Never thought I'd see the full version
Wasn't the first time Phil had a man ontop of him.
Makes a change from having a young boy on top of him.
i was there 2nd row.. blimey that feels like a million years ago now!..
Schofield loved the man handling.
Served him right...this is going straight into my favourites.
Carter USM were one of the best things to happen to British music. And I speak as a Briton.
I remember watching this I just about peed my pants laughing! funniest thing on tv at the time, Carter USM where are they now...
hehe, i had this on VHS for years. fantastic. thanks for posting it!
I was actually there!!! me and my friend thought it was part of the act at first until we saw security running on! You do actually see a split second of me and my friend cos we were up the side where the camera immediately goes to cos the cameras go straight into the audience.....
First band I see Brixton academy 1993 12 years old
Thanks, been looking for that for ages.
The cut to the crowd shot after Schofe got knocked down 😂

Nice one, thanks for sharing, I remember seeing this on the telly - so funny!!
He's used to taking a "smash hit" from behind.
Monkey Magic love that
Hahahaha 🦇
Wish someone would do this to Philip schofield again he gets far too much TV time
Not anymore he won't :)
I saw them live and it was great. (miming here) 3.28 if you can't be arsed to listen to this..one of their best songs
The irony being that Jim Bob was thrown out but they didn’t manage to keep hold of Fruitbat who stuck around until the end!!!
Gotta love fruity's EMF shorts

I dont
I really want the theme tune from his smash hit poll winners party I remember it it was fantastic anyone know what year this was?
@noerfc11 "2 live dates in November" - why wait so long - they're headlining one night at Beautiful days festival in August
ahhhh love it!!!
cant wait to see carter again in november...both nights !!!
Press 9 to hear his soul break
hahaha, wonderful
Love when Fruitbat sends the mic stand into the crown at 3:01

Been looking for this for ages. Fucking brilliant
I've got my tickets for the 14th - see you up front and in the aftershow party till dawn :-)
Apparently, Schofield thought that Wire's Eardrum Buzz was the worst song ever. That's why he sucks.
Good on schofield wishing the lads good luck for the final comedown gigs - so sad that that's it ______________ or is it ?
Thanks for the memories and the gigs mr Bob and Mr bat
Hello good evening welcome and goodbye ! YFB !!!!!!!
CLASS!
I wonder what happened to that presenter being attacked on stage, I am sure he's a wholesome guy that would never do wrong
I was there!!! What a shot!
... Schofe's lil *eh* as he's going down
what is the song?
the reason they smashed up the set is because thier slot was cut half way through the song
A tweet from Jim Bob made me come over to watch this video.
carter are one of the most underrated bands in history
Definately my brother was friends with them and i grew up as a teenager listening to my brother playing there albums i think there quality and massively underated as you say love them 👍
I remember this 😂😂😂😂
everything, in the two nights they're doing all their albums, it's meant to be their last ever two shows

Is that where the BBC kept Jimmy Saville ?
How to Rugby Tackle a Tw4t - by Carter USM (Instruction Manual)
Schofield deserved that. Fruitbat should have gone in harder. Carter USM are one of my favourite bands ever, and Schofield couldn't even get their names right.
they were performing to an audience of predominantly kids, he's not going to say unstoppable sex machine is he
🤣😂🤣 Epic fruitiness at the end 👍
...and David Icke says ' Like to show you how...'
The 90's were fucking epic.
Thats great
How many would have wished that they done that to Schofield
remember it like it was yeterday!
now not only......aaah
Andy Crane got mentioned in a song too lol Johnnnnnnnnnn Kettttttttttlllleeeyyyyyyyyyyy
Nice one Fruity!!
He hardly beat him up as the title suggests 😂
Why did he do that?
Good job.
Went to see Carter the other night in Brum - FU***NG CLASS. Like it was 15 years ago. Never seen this clip before but shi*t, its funny!
Carter did Smash Hits? When did this news break?!?! Why was I not informed? This must have gone sailing over the heads of the audience.
It's called after the watershed! Wasn't Fruitbat also pissed off that Schofield had slagged of Chesney Hawkes! He was just sticking up for a mate!
Will Smith's got nothing on these guys.
Get in there FRUITY!!!!
Schofield? hahah

I know it's an old comment but it's still one of the funniest I've ever read.Thanks.
No way is Jim Bob miming.... !!!! Are you deaf and blind ??

Cut the song off, what did you expect.
they kicked a microphone stand into a kids face at 3:00
Could have done with Jimbob and Fruitbat today.
Top band, but i remember thinking at the time what the F*** were a so called right on group like Carter doing performing at the smash hits party.
i feel for fruity performing for those c""s at Brits , look at Sam smith this year ,,, well done fruity jarvis and klf , you didn't embarrass yourselves
Saw Carter USM about 6 weeks ago. I think it was Ned's with them (that makes a change eh?)
'Ave that Schofield!
Who was the worst female in pop

@3:24 - "...I think they're still smashing it up the back, somewhere."
I think Philip Schofield enjoys getting smashed up the back...
@@michaelmj1964 Yep, that was the joke. Congratulations on repeating it back and adding nothing to it.
@@yesbwana Thanks for the congratulations. Namaste.
Ah yes he's a Batty Boy now! 😂
But this is the pet shop boys?
3:28 girly scream
The Carter boys weren't that badly behaved and stuck around after.
It's not like they did a runner.
Placaje rugby tremendo

Not as good as I remember, actually, I’d say Phillip S acted like a professional didn’t miss a beat, while Fruit Bat looked like an angry teenager,
Now out of the closet Philip Schofield - beaten up onstage, probably a bit late to retrospectively sue!
Awful band, doing an awful thing to an awful person. Awfully good.
Excuse me Mr Fruitbat, he is supposed to jump on you!!
if id been there id if beaten him too.
