Sharlene, I had the same reaction the first time I heard this amazingly gorgeous rendition of a truly timeless classic.
I drove trucks and worked in the oilfield for over 40 years. I was also a biker. I had tears rolling down my cheeks before she finished the second verse. By the end of the song, I was a wreck!
One of the most beautiful, emotional performances I’ve ever witnessed.
Her versions of Autumn Leaves, Danny Boy, Fields Of Gold and Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time are equally exquisite!

My first introduction to Eva Cassidy was through this song. I was walking through my living room with a basket full of laundry and I heard this beautiful, clear vocals coming from the Tv (I think it was 60 minutes doing a feature on Eva Cassidy)...it stopped me right in my tracks. I was mesmerized by this person singing a song I thought I knew; but I did not know...I have never heard it sung with so much melancholy, wistfulness, and soul...there was this sadness to her. So much talent, gone too soon. Thanks for reacting to her and this amazing rendition.

I'm 82. I've heard this song sung many times. I alway thought it was a nice song. But this version brings out the very best of the song. It's at a much greater level. The lyrics are given full meaning and emotional intensity with such gentleness and impeccable artistry. I like listening to this version with people's reaction because this a version to share and feel together. Everyone seems to melt when they hear this and I feel better because I also cry listening to this version.

Not quite right. Blue Note's A&R division joined Eva Cassidy to the Jazz band Method Actor, and they tried to make music in 1988: czcams.com/video/F3PQ-e9ZO1M/video.html After all, she did say: "I don't do that Pop crap." I love Eva so much. Just about every time I hear her, regardless of what song, I have tears in my eyes. Sometimes from the raw emotion in her voice, as in this song and others, like Autumn Leaves. Other times, it's just sadness over the loss of such a talent at such a young age. Besides these quiet, emotion-drenched songs, she also had a voice that could soar and fill the whole world when she unleashed it. Some great examples of that are Blues in the Night and Oh Had I A Golden Thread. I hope you'll give those a try sometime. Subbed and hoping for some Eva (or maybe some from the other singer who touches my heart similarly, Haley Reinhart).

Sorry Sharlene, I got a phone call in the middle of your reaction video. What I was going to comment is that, over the past 3 weeks I have listened to this live performance about 150 times. I can now almost make it to the guitar solo before tears of joy take over my life.
I swear the first time she split my soul in half, then proceeded to mend it again. God, who blessed her with this talent, is blessing a troubled World with her interpretation of the song. It is as if His existence outside of time and space as we know it, He was able to Cross reference different dates in time to bless the World with this new revelation of the song.
1939, the song was written for the Wizzard Of Oz movie and sung by the star Judy Garland.
1996, He blessed Eva Cassidy with a special talent to reinterpret the song in a special way, that would be recounted thousands of times in 2023 and 2024 by a World entering a Prophetic End Times Age, and in need of new insiration, and God Blessed Eva for this very purpose. I think her cover is an introduction to the pending Rapture of His Church and the way we will finally fly like the happy bluebirds above the Rainbow to be reunited with Him in the sky

Congrats on getting through such an immersive song. you are also the only person i know to have mentioned copyright some reaction versions have played the entire song. some Others interrupted the song so much and didn't really know where was a good place to interrupt the song. I complained that they shouldn't have interrupted at all. but I know now maybe they were pausing for copyright. some very technical very qualified people stripped the song from a vocalist view in mind which was fascinating which was probably the longest video.

@D22, I think that you are mistaking acting for a complete connection emotionally to the song. She hits the highs and lows, but in her range and dynamics. Then you can hear her voice crack a couple times, particularly at the end. This isn’t a reflection of her singing quietly at that point but a reflection of how her emotions drive that slight stoppage in her vocal folds. She is a wonderfully emotive singer. One of the best in that regard. But you’re right in that it draws you in 100%.

I went off to the local indie comics/music/CD store and bought "Live At Blues Alley" (1996) and was amazed at how she "made each song her own." A wonderful musical odyssey followed, as I collected Blix Street Eva Cassidy CDs over the years. She refused, because she wanted to sing the songs that she loved. He signed Norah Jones as she was more marketable, and had a famous father. Eva worked at her family nursery always. He later admitted it was biggest mistake he ever made. Rest in peace Eva, we didn't deserve a voice like yours. We were lucky to have you for a little while. Knowledge of Eva Cassidy's premature death lends added poignancy to to this performance. She had already been treated for melanoma once, resulting in her employer loosing health insurance coverage for all of its employees. Having no health insurance, she started missing follow-up appointments. She knew that she was at high risk and, in fact, died within a year of this performance. I think she, like many cancer patients, knew. She sang it as if she knew. Judy Garland sang this song about home. Eva Cassidy sang this song about Heaven.

Yes dear, I believe God gave her this talent specifically to emphasize a deeper fuller meaning to the song.
The sign God gave us in the Sky that he would never destroy mankind again was the Rainbow. Now that we are very close to the return of Jesus to bring an End to the Age and usher in Eternity, that that Eternity will be SOMEWHERE OVER THAT VERY RAINBOW and he blessed Eva to help us understand that very deep meaning. The first time I heard this a few weeks ago, she literally broke my Soul in two and I believe it wad part of God's plan back in 1996 to use the talent He gave her for this very purpose.
