    The 56th Rolex 24 at Daytona was an endurance sports car racing event held at the Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, Florida on January 27-28, 2018. It was also the first race for the 2018 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
    The overall winner was the #5 Mustang Sampling Racing Cadillac raced by Filipe Albuquerque, João Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi, with a record total distance of 2,876.85 mi (4,629.84 km). The GTLM Class was won by the #67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT driven by Scott Dixon, Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook. The #11 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracán GT3 driven by Mirko Bortolotti, Rik Breukers, Rolf Ineichen and Franck Perera won the GTD Class, despite having to start from the back.
    The 24 Hours of Daytona, currently known as the Rolex 24 At Daytona for sponsorship reasons, is a 24-hour sports car endurance race held annually at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is run on a 3.56-mile (5.73 km) combined road course, utilizing portions of the NASCAR tri-oval and an infield road course. Since its inception, it has been held the last weekend of January or first weekend of February, part of Speedweeks, and it is the first major automobile race of the year in the United States. It is also the first race of the season for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
    The race has had several names over the years. Since 1991, the Rolex Watch Company is the title sponsor of the race under a naming rights arrangement, replacing Sunbank (now SunTrust) which in turn replaced Pepsi in 1984. Winning drivers of all classes receive a steel Rolex Daytona watch.
    In 2006, the race moved one week earlier into January to prevent a clash with the Super Bowl, which had in turn moved one week later into February a few years earlier.
    The race has been known historically as a leg of the informal Triple Crown of endurance racing, although it suffers from an increasing isolation from international Sports Car racing regulations, which have been eased in recent years (Prototypes include P2 Prototypes and an IMSA-spec open engine class with aero kits, and the two Grand Touring classes are now divided between ACO GTE, and FIA/SRO Group GT3 classes).

      Normally, they indicate the position of the car within that car's class (red = DPi & GTLM, green = GTD). During pit stops, however, they turn purple and serve to indicate the duration of the stop.

    Do the cars have a built in air lifters? or how do they get lifted up? I'm an ignorant about these kind of racing cars

    • @Avilator189
      @Avilator189 Před 4 lety +4

      They have air jacks built in to them. One of the pit crew will plug in an air hose when the car stops and that extends the pistons to lift the car up. Then there is a valve with a small pull cord - they give it a tug and all the air is let out at once to drop the car back down.

      AJ you can keep your fru fru frenchie race that has killed more drivers and spectators than any other sporting event in history. I’ll keep my pristine, fan beloved, steeped in history event at the literal WORLD CENTER OF RACING.

    • @lorenzoabanes6351
      @lorenzoabanes6351 Před 4 lety +1

      Joma Hawk guys, they’re just as good as each other, but Daytona is no way a rip off, by AJ’s use of “rip off” all 24 hour races are rip offs of Le Mans, and the reason Le Mans has killed so many is because the race has been held since 1923, when safety wasn’t paramount as it is today, and Daytona isn’t really the world centre of racing, there isn’t really any world centre from racing as it’s such an international sport.
