Texas police provide update on explosive materials found in suspect's bag

- Two bags of potentially explosive devices, including propane tanks, electrical wiring and pressure cookers, were found in separate locations in Lake Worth on July 25, 2024, after a threat suspect was reported at a Walmart, officials said.
No one was injured, the man was taken into custody and the devices were safely "mitigated," police Chief J.T. Manoushagian said.
The man's name and any potential charges he faces have not been released yet.
The incident unfolded over several hours Thursday, starting around 9:40 a.m., when police got a call about someone entering a Walmart off Lake Worth Boulevard with weapons. Police later learned a man was seen with two large backpacks that took up a whole shopping cart, Manoushagian said.
The building was evacuated and police began working to find the suspect, who had also sent threatening messages to his parole officer, Manoushagian said.
The messages, according to Manoushagian, included: "I have things stashed everywhere," "Cops play with my word," "When I say planned, I mean everything."
Dispatchers were able to ping the man's phone and see that he had moved away from the Walmart. While officers were looking for him, they found the first suspicious bag in front of the Richie Brothers Auctioneers building, which is located near Azle Avenue and Northwest Loop 820 in Lake Worth.
A short time later, the man was located nearby and detained. Then, about an hour after the first bag was found, a second suspicious bag was located in the 3900 block of Boat Club Road in Lake Worth, police said.

If only the Secret Service was so coordinated 2 weeks ago...
Well done to you and the rest of the teams.
My first thought when the Lake Worth police chief came to the mic…. “He’s tough! Good to see someone in command that looks like he’s been out there and knows how to handle ‘business’.
RESPECT!!
Thank you so much to all of the departments for all of your hard work and keeping the community safe!
Sir could you please head the SECRET SERVICE. They need you.

Big time!!!
They should all look like guy also ! Clones anywhere ?

What a great, honest briefing with good information, facts, clarifications, with no accusations or evasion of details. Very even handed and comprehensive.
Thank you all for your quick action!God bless you!it's better to be safe than sorry!❤
Thank you for your service and keeping the public safe!
Thank you for your service 🙏
Do these officers get a paycheck for their heroic deeds, or is it purely volunteer pro bono?
Mighty fine police work

USSS needs to study this. They obviously need remedial work .
And may be the police officers that respond to Uvalde, also right
Great example of how things should work. It starts with citizens/businesses and early reporting. Public Safety agencies typically do their work well and work together well. But incidents are positively impacted by what folks on the scene can do and report.
@@user-kt8yd6we4e the guy had camping gear. Jesus. Calm down.

Absolutely!!!

For what? A homeless man who had propane canisters because he’s living rough but absolutely no explosives? Maybe your prayers should be for the homeless man.
God bless our law enforcement in Texas.
God bless everyone in America, just not law enforcement.
Oh yeah like Uvalde. Texas is full of hero cops. Totally.
Why? This was a non-incident. No explosives. Just a homeless man who had propane canisters because he lives rough. Save your blessings for him. He needs them more than the police do.
The sky sounds like someone who could be the secret service Director
I’m impressed, good job on the apprehension. Excellent work keeping civilians safe. Glad to see you can communicate better than the secret service 😊Just one question-How did you get his phone?
This is scary. We had some kind of incident at the Walmart in Big Spring this morning. Is Texas being targeted again? It seems so in the past several months in different ways.
The police are protecting terrorists. Be aware. This is real. Every state is having this happen. It's not Texas... it's everywhere.
Thank You
I'm in DFW area. Thank you Lake Worth first responders!
Wait... he is homeless and had camping supplies like for cooking.....and was living in a wooded area that they searched and found nothing?!?!?
Yaaa....................say what?
Now they will get awards and a pay raise . Wow !
ACAB
that was my take on it too
If this were the case why did he make the wild statements to his parole officer? Or have multiple bags with the same items that he dropped in different locations?
Imagine thinking that calling the ATF for help is ever a good idea….
What is wrong with these people who seek to hurt other?
😮
So a million dollar operation to catch a homeless dude with some propane canisters. Am I missing something here?
Sounds like " low hanging fruit " , easy money .
@@georgesheffield1580 sounds like policing for action.
You may be missing that propane canisters + containers full metal shards + eletrical wiring can =Boston Marathan-level bomb. You want a couple of those going off? What would you be saying if they had? That they weren't *actually* explosive devices isn't the kind of thing you ignore when the X-rays show the potential.
@@user-re1hy6if7d I would have to see the evidence myself. Law enforcement are infamous for misleading to public to gain notoriety.

You are not very smart. You suffer from mental retardation
Thank you PD! God Bless y’all and the people or person that was alert and paying attention!
Sounds like a big waste of money for some Coleman lantern fuel LOL
If there was no explosives what are the charges they expect to lay against someone who they say is mentally ill?? A homeless person camping in a wooded area in posession of items consistant with camping?? Better throw him in jail fast. This is why nobody trusts the police
He told his probation officer he was leaving explosive devices in various places. He left those bags in various places. He had prior felony convictions and mentally ill. He made threats. Do you think they should have just blown off his threats?
Are you dense? Glad you arent in control!
I live in the area; freeways & a major road closed down for hours for this one guy, who clearly has mental issues. What a waste of our tax dollars for a whole day, while tons of first responders had to waste their efforts on this ONE guy. We need better mental health places & care to deal with these people. :(
Yes, we need better access to good mental health professionals for everyone. That's still not a reason to ignore warnings. No system will prevent all violent acts or tnreats of them. A lot of preventive acts (from replacing a tire when its tread is still usable but low, to taking the time to replenish your pantry before storm season) are expensive, time-consuming, and---by some people--considered "useless" and a "waste." If all you're preventing is a wet carpet from a sudden leak in a hot water heater, replacing an old one is a risk you may be willing to take. If it's a bomb exploding in your neighborhood...maybe not? Of course, maybe you don't think an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
My personal experience with relatives, is that they routinely refused to take the pills since it made them feel like a zombie.
See something say something.
Yeah make sure you call the cops on every homeless person that you see that has a small propane cylinder from Dick's sporting goods and his backpack. We can't be letting these people on the streets eat food with their propane tanks and their burners. You're only allowed to do that in your house. Thank God we have people like you
The majority of these briefings are more like announcements naming police chiefs, sheriffs, fire captains and politicians and about what a great job they did communicating with eachother and responding to get there. Dont forget to vote for me because I'm so awesome!!!! Yah, but whats the suspects name? We dont know. What's the the motive? We dont know.
I been saying this forever.
@@diyoregonnowtexas9202 just another waste of time and money for everyone. Way overblown
okay, so crazy homeless person with his camping gear. charges of threats instead of mental health services while under lockup. so why was this person who obviously had mental health issues let out under probation? stove and fuel. It was a great and proper response. courts and local government need to get their act together for the more fundamental services.

Ok telling us the necessary measures were taken to insure safety, all suspects were captured is all that is needed Giving us step by step is dumb this is obviously is a trial run for the group involved now they know how to circumvent intervention. 🤦🏼♀️
If you haven't figured it out yet the corrupt police departments and the politicians are on the same side and they want civilians to get hurt. The sooner that you realize this the sooner the issue can be corrected
Really? A homeless dude went to the store with a propane tank. Probably wanted to exchange the thing! Now you're blaming some group?! It's nothing like the hateful magats with automatic rifles going to Walmart and shooting dozens of people. Did you blame the magat group for el Paso? SMH
I would be weary of the police in the media right now, making a big deal of absolutely nothing
Stuff like this constantly happens around Chicago nor the fbi and law enforcement agencies do anything about it and yet houses and buildings keep getting lit on fire and vehicle explosions happen weekly around neighborhoods
His probation office thought he was up to something..so he told police..some police officers respond to these incidents..if they didn't and something went wrong ..then they blame police for not responding..dammed if they do and dammed if they dont .smdh
So this is why traffick was so messed up yesterday? For a city that is so small, it's always something crazy going down in LW.
Sounds like they made a mistake and blew up all this guys camping gear. 🤔
Wasn’t EOD that’s military they have a lesser trained group called hazardous device technicians. EOD are trained to a much higher level. Although these cops wear the badge they’re actually stolen valor. So they found camping gear check.
Civilian cops love to steal valor
lol. True. Having worked many years side by side with military trained EOD professionals; this is laughable.
I carry numerous propane tanks with me at all times. I also carry Acetylene. I carry butane. I carry MAPP gas. I carry Isobutane.
As a member of the public at large, what suspicious activity or objects should we be alert for?
The obvious thing here is that , while the criminal justice system did work to prevent a potential attack in this one case, the criminal justice system is not the right place to handle mental health issues. In Texas, and in the US as a whole, proactive mental health care and intervention is woefully underfunded and utterly inadequate. There are no easy answers to this issue, but it is something we need to discuss openly and work to improve.
To be clear, criminals are criminals and should face judgment, but I have seen a man trying to fight back against "ghosts," who himself called 911, sentenced to 5 years in prison for arson for lighting a fire in a hotel trash can to "scare the ghosts away." He called for help and was imprisoned. Separately a relative had friends call me to help when she had a sudden psychotic break. This otherwise normal suburban hausfrau was psychotic, disoriented, and dangerous and we were ignored by local ERs. Finally I got her to private in-patient treatment that worked. She leads a normal life today, but just as easily could be imprisoned, living on the streets, or getting her own press conference like we see above. We need to talk about this.
@@Miata822 what criminal act was committed?
I while heatedly agree. How can we hold people accountable when they can't definitively discern reality from psychosis. We focus on reaction instead of preventative measures
@@erickhuntsman240 again. What criminal act did the man commit at that time to warrant the reaction from the schutzstaffel?
Excellent opportunity for training experience for all the agencies involved. Glad this wasn’t real and worked out for everyone but usually aren’t credible and most agencies will error on the caution side when confronted with any allegations of threats by unknown suspects or any alleged statements made.
Like Homeland security and FTWPD showing up at a former LEO house because he noticed tourniquets in Lake Worth and Clifford Walmart stores like they keep an AED and made a suggestion to Walmart management to get stop the bleed also to have on hand in the event of an incident. Someone read his suggestion wrong and 3 FTWPD officers and a liaison showing up to this gentleman’s house to be interviewed because he made a mere suggestion. Let us protect but not overact. Means and opportunity in the initial investigation determines how any agency will proceed in their justification of any actions to protect the citizens of the community. Good job Lake Worth PD, FD and local and federal agencies in working together.
Omg are you serious? We got people out there starting fires, illegal immigrants committing crimes and a 20 year old on a roof taking shots at a former president, and you go after a possibly homeless man with camping equipment.
Not even armed.
I cant even comment on this any more. Its just....wow.

I just have one question. How did they get his phone number to ping for location?
So the guy was going camping
Was this just a homeless guy with his camping stuff in his backpack?
He said something about a "plan" to a parole officer, and he had "stuff" stashed all over the place. I'm not getting it. Was he talking about his homeless camping stuff and sent to wrong person ? All he had was camping, cooking stuff , no indication of any way to set them off .
Homeless people regularly hide stuff for later. Not like they have a garage at home. A group of homeless in a city I used to live in had a fabled map that had stash locations of clothes, can goods, shoes, all kinds of things.. sounds like a plan.
He made threats.. sent photos of those bags.. should they have blown him off? Kept their fingers crossed that he was bluffing? Wow the stupid comments on this thread

Agree that too much information was released on process and procedure. While informative to citizens, it gave too much info if the perpetrator had accomplices and are now using the info to refinine their planning
I remember so clearly it could've been a Pepperidge Farm's commercial; I brought an empty propane bottle inside Walmart to exchange it when the entire Walmart staff(all 5 of em)started acting like I had a bomb. So dumb lol.
The Las Vegas gunman had a cart made of bronze given to him by the Casino. Plus, provided someone to push it. Liars. Tell the Truth.
How do they know the suspects phone number and trace his phone so fast? I guess they don't need a search warrant for that, and don't need to go through a cell phone company.
Nevermind, his probation officer tipped off the police.
No guns, weapons, or devices. Just a homeless wacko with camping gear that made some threatening texts.
