    Glock 19 is not a modern upgrade of the Glock 17 - It's a more compact version of the 17

    • @wutang80oc39
      @wutang80oc39 Před 2 lety +99

      Your exactly right. the numbers denote the model. Also you can figure out the features, caliber and whether it is a compact, sub compact or full size pistol, based on model number, not the generation of said pistol. The "modern upgrade" would be Generation 1 or G2 Glock 17 vs G2, G3 or G4 Glock 17. Saying the G19 is a modernized G17 is like saying a Ford Fusion is a modernized Crown Victoria.

Only in the eyes of ignorant people who fail to realize that educating children from a young age about firearms, what they can do, and why they should be treated with respect rather than fear will remove 95% of the mystique from them and get people back to treating them like tools for defense and sport rather than a means to settle their demons.

When Glock was manufacturing knives for the Austrian army, he overheard two generals talking about the new pistol contract competition and asked what the requirements were. The two generals laughed at him and said that he was a knife maker and there was no way he could make a halfway pistol. Keep in mind that the military knife contract was what moved his shop from his garage to a legit shop. I bought a Glock 17 (Gen 1) in 1987 and it has fired tens of thousands of rounds in the last approximately 35 years.
    The Glock trigger safety doesn’t make the gun more dangerous than any other firearm. It is the same as virtually every double-action revolver in the world, pull the trigger and it goes BANG. Don’t pull the trigger and it just sits there making a great paperweight (beyond popular belief, guns do not “just go off”). Idiots and untrained individuals can figure out how to disengage a manual safety on a gun in about 2 seconds and are still a danger to themselves and others.
    PS. There is a CZcams video of a DEA Agent giving a gun lecture to a room full of school kids. He makes the comment he “…is the only person in the room qualified” to handle a Glock. He then shoots himself in the leg. So much for being “designed for police/military” and not civilians.

Few parts mean cheaper production, easier maintenance, less ways for things to go wrong, and cheaper barrier to entry than many other options for handgun ownership. Plus it's just comfortable to shoot compared to others I've handled. Plus its widespread adoption is a lucky break thanks to the coincidental widespread adoption of 9 mm rounds for police and military use.

    Only tricky part about reassembling a Glock 17 and most striker fired pistols is the trigger mechanism. You have to put the seer, block, trigger and slide lock back into the frame at once, and in the right order. Mess it up and it's not a disaster, but your slide will lock back every few shots. Real head scratcher the first time i made the mistake, and it was a surprisingly easy mistake to make, even for somebody that strips and cleans a few different rifles and handguns monthly, or whenever they're taken out and shot.

      @@NG-lq8lc He invented the firearm from scratch, Kalashnikov just jumbled parts together and Stoner wanted the 63 as the platform, Maxim would be the only other one that is not there, Bergmann's were garbage, know something before writing
