Another excelllent video Dan. This is my favourite local coastal area for seabirds, there are several great natural viewing points along the full stretch from Thornwick Bay to the area around the lighthouse at Flamborough Head, provided by inlets and headlands. My very best puffin experience though is on the Farne Islands in Northumberland.

G'day Dan. Great video as always. I took your advice and visited Flamborough Heads last week. In fact, I took a boat ride (highly recommend this option) and photographed two Puffins less than three metres away from the boat. One immediately dived under water but the other one allowed me to photograph it as it took off. Great two days at Flamborough and Bempton Cliffs in perfect summer weather. Here's a spot you might be interested in for Long Eared Owls. Crown Point Road, Burnley BB113QZ. I found two Owls while I was there.

Best place for puffins (and arctic terns), in UK I’ve been to is The Isle of May. It’s also easy enough to see puffins with sand eels/ fish over at Bishop’s Cove on the island. Fish and chips, strawberries and cream, puffins and sand eels - can’t have one without the other…

It's a superb place and so glad to see the arctic terns this year (they didn't breed there last year). I was lucky enough to spend a week on the island in June. Over 100,000 puffins there this summer. Nothing beats photographing them at sunset.

One of the most beautiful coastlines in the UK in my opinion. Did you realise that when you filmed the birds in the water, the very last bird before you moved the camera away was a puffin at 3.51. You obviously hadn't spotted it at the time of filming and I had to rewind and pause to double check.
What another lovely video and great to see the puffins. Love the music you use too, it's very relaxing and fits so well with the scenes.
We live in a motorhome but I have a campervan that I travel solo in called The Nook. It's 31 years old, but I love to escape with the dog while the other half does his own thing. You can't beat it for waking up early at beautiful places and getting out before the masses arrive.

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  Před měsícem +1

Thanks very much. I only realised that I had the puffin on the water when I came to edit the video and so placed that frame as I mentioned puffins in the commentary. I record lots of B Roll and only a fraction of it ends up in the video.
Living in a Motorhome sounds idyllic and waking up to different views must be awesome.
I certainly want to travel more as our children have grown up. We are off up into Scotland for several weeks this summer exploring the Hebridean islands, I can’t wait!

Another amazing video, Dan, from your East Yorkshire itinerary, especially the aerial drone footage of a stunning location.
I usually visit RSPB Bempton Cliffs and/or RSPB South Stack on Anglesey for my annual Puffin fix but it looks like Flamborough Head now needs to be added even if the vantage points are somewhat precarious!
I have only been to Flamborough Head twice, both visits many years ago. The first was for autumn seawatching and the second was for watching nothing due to the thick sea fog!
Thank you for introducing Dinky Doo (spelling?). Campervans are great fun so enjoy. I have never owned one but have rented on several occasions over the years in Scotland and also in Iceland and Finland/Norway.

Great stuff as ever Dan, though if you really want to see LOADS of Puffins my suggestion is without a doubt get yourself on to Skomer Island off the SW Pembrokeshire coast - over 40k puffins on this years count & they literally walk right past you. It’s a must see place for puffins, razorbills, guillemot, kittiwakes, fulmars, curlew, oystercatcher & though; as well as the chance of SEO’s & if you stay overnight (if you’re lucky enough to get through before all the accommodation sells out) the chance to photograph these in the golden hours as well as the haunting spectacle of the thousands of manx shearwaters that leave their burrows at dusk to go out to sea to hunt in the darkness. It’s also one of the best designated dark sky locations in the UK, it’s an amazing place. Don’t get me wrong, I love Bempton Cliffs & the surrounding areas too, but Skomer is just as you Northerners would say ‘different gravy’.
Great vlog, some great tips too.
Congratulations on the purchase of Dinky Doo, look forward to your adventures in him/her.
    Keep on keeping on mate!
    Best,
    Nick

I’ve been lucky enough to go to Skomer and stay on the island for 5 nights and totally agree with you that it is without doubt one of the most magical places ever.
I’ve actually lay on the cliff tops under a full moon as thousands of sheer water have come in to feed their chicks. It was as you stated, haunting. I’ve struggled to get any of the accommodation since then as it has to fall within school holidays. I will keep trying though.

Love the motor home, If I lived in the UK I would do the same, such a great way to see the country and of course gives you great access to wildlife sites.
