I'd be okay with that, as long as it's maybe 2 exclusively modern Sonic games (not including remasters or spin-offs) and maybe 1 classic Sonic game within the span of 5 or 6 years

Yey and even confrim in the interview that they want to aim the classic and morden sonic aduince separately and they had stayed true to there word so far because in frontiers classic sonic was never once refrence and in superstars he's doing his own thing and so far everything is good as long as they stay true to there word and keep theme separately

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Classic Sonic games releasing alongside Modern Sonic games keeps the franchise fresh, so if anything, Classic Sonic makes the series LESS limited
I think what Unleash is failing to admit is that he just doesn't like the Classic Sonic aesthetic and that that is something very subjective. Premydaremy also hates Classic Sonic A LOT, but admits that's more of a him problem.
Yeah, I think his video was pretty disingenuous. I just think he doesn't like the classic games and doesn't want to admit it.

I honestly think that there is room for everything. I wouldn't mind a Modern 2D game like Advance and/or Rush with those types of mechanics, but I also don't think that Classic Sonic has to die altogether to achieve that goal. This is why I think pillars of Sonic is a good thing; i.e. you have your 2D games and your 3D games, whether or not it's Classic or Modern. At the end of the day all that matters is the overall quality of the game.
I agree, but the problem is that there's always going to be this dissonance among the fan base. If Sega made both a 2D Classic game and a 2D Modern game, you're inevitably going to have bias fans unfairly criticising one or the other. And because so many people are insistent that Classic games must be different from Modern games, Sega will obviously give the Classic game the usual momentum based physics that all Sonic fans know and love, while the Modern game will have the boost mechanic from Rush or even an experimental type of 2D gameplay that will be divisive or alienate longtime fans. That hardly seems fair to the Modern games; it just seems to be setting them up to fail. Heck, even if a new 2D Modern game was good, you'd still get haters, detractors, overly critical critics and tragically even some fans complaining "It's not as good as Mania though!" Or "This game would be a million billion squillion kajillion times betterer if it was Classic Sonic!"
If Sega sticks with the Modern designs for the next 2D momentum based game, then they aren't limiting themselves to just classic imagery and aesthetics. They aren't limited to only using the characters who debuted in the series from 1991 to 1996; they can use any character that they want. They can update popular characters like Mighty and Ray with Modern designs, and even use fan favourites like Shadow or Silver (which is something a lot of fans have wanted to see for a long time.) And after all of that if the only complaint is whiney fan boys going "But I don't like those stinky Modern designs! Give me my Classic Sonic or I'm never playing another Sonic game ever again, REEEEEE" then I'm sorry, but these kinds of whiners don't deserve to be catered to.

I kind of agree with you both. I wouldnt say he overstayed his welcome. I personally think what they're doing with Classic now is the best way to handle it and I'm extremely excited for Superstars.
But at the same time, the idea that classic is very prevalent now is fair. Compare how much Classic and classic ideas we see now in comparison to how much we've seen between Adventure 1 and Colors. For better or for worse, Classic wasn't really around at all. Or at the very least, wasn't as focused on. Even if he was tacked on and horribly handled in Forces, the fact that he's there at all is still a good enough example. That's about all I agree with from the other guy tho. Sonic is Sonic at the end of the day and I'm looking forward to Superstars and Frontiers updates, so I welcome the duality.

Glad to see you here my boy. And yeah he is definitely way more prevalent than he was in the early 2000s but again like you said, they are handling him in the best way possible now. He kinda fills in that gap between the big Modern releases.
Good video. Keeping Classic Sonic makes sense as a way to tell those more lighthearted stories Sonic can tell, without people fighting that we're getting meta-era story writing again

Some fans can be so needlessly dramatic. Sonic is Sonic, and they're not getting rid of the modern art design anytime soon.
People been complaining about Sonic Superstars being a full priced game. You know why it’s full price? It’s a brand new experience with full fledged extensive content. I do believe Classic and Modern can co exists as separate entities. Especially with the fanbase being so divisive where Sonic strives best at. Or what era they grew up with most. Me? I just want the best possible experience. Wether it’s 2D or 3D.

I also kind of understand that there may be some brand confusion by having two different versions of Sonic. In the 2000's, there were the 2D games such as Advance and Rush, and the 3D games like the Adventure games and Sonic Heroes, Shadow, 06, etc. But there was never a Classic Sonic back then either, it was just Sonic, which I totally understand and in fact makes sense for the most part. However, I don't think it's a totally bad thing that Classic Sonic exists, as long as he is not shoehorned into the Modern stuff for no reason. The most important factor for any of these games is their overall quality, not which Sonic is present.
I agree with you it felt like a hate letter to the series.

This is a great video but it’s so underrated. I agree with you, classic sonic has been forced into some games like sonic forces but he’s not really the main focus. He’s only been in like 4/5 games in the past decade and to say he needs to die is a bit much. It’s like saying the Jurassic world dominion should have never even been released. Classic sonic gives me great nostalgia and to use nostalgia against other people who like the classic games should not be used. There are a mix of classic and modern sonic fans and for the modern sonic fans to say that classic sonic games should never be made ever again is not fair for the classic fans. It would be like two kids fighting over something that is still, at the end of the day, sonic. Modern sonic fans should consider that saying that classic sonic should die is basically saying “Since I don’t like the original and old version of sonic it should die cuz I hate it”. It just sounds so childish
Basically to get to the point Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic are 2 sides of the same coin. Classic Sonic doesn't need to die they just need to keep his formula fresh and new just like his modern counterpart and expand upon it like they did with frontiers for modern sonic and what they're doing now with superstars for classic sonic. At the end of the day he's still the blue hedgehog we all know and love, SEGA just has to keep the balance between the 2 without messing things up. As long as they keep things fresh and new and introduce new mechanics that add on to the character and gameplay of both modern and classic sonic everything should be fine.
You mention needing to keep his formula fresh and new, yet he's been doing almost the exact same thin since the start. And the very few times he did do something somewhat new, the execution was questionable at best.

I don’t mind classic sonic, as long as it’s clear that they’re the same person, either it’s a change of artstyle like it was originally, or a younger version of sonic (which I like the latter personally), I would love a 3D cgame with the mega drive artstyle/ designs some day, we’ll always have the adventure games, but talk about restricting yourself, if they restrict classic sonic to only 2D, that would be forgetting that the classics were about improving and moving forward in the gaming industry, ever since sonic 2, sonic has been going through different dimensions in special stages, especially sonic CDs special stages and mania, again, I would love both, classic and modern not as classic and modern, I’ve never liked that separation imo, they made him too cutesy in generations and forces and , again, I’d love a younger sonic and older sonic in different dimensions, and I’m glad sega is slowly showing that they are definitely getting classic sonic into 3D slowly but surely, and establishing that they’re the same person snarky action hero with a heart of gold again
I think keeping Classic Sonic mostly for 2D games is important, Those who are born in the late 70s to late 80s know of Classic Sonic though Sonic 1, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, the game gear games, Knuckles' Chaotix, Sonic the Fighters, SegaSonic Arcade, Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R and prefer that Sonic where as those who are born in the 90s though 2000s prefer Modern Sonic.
If you recall the Classic Sonic Fanboys where saying that every Sonic game after Sonic 3 and Knuckles or Sonic Adventure 2 sucks and the Modern Sonic fanboys where attacking them leading into a flame war on the internet and those who say who are hating on Classic Sonic are those who got into Sonic via Sonic X and knew of Sonic 1, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic Adventure 1 and Sonic Adventure 2 though the Gamecube ports, however the Sonic Movies are enjoyed by both Classic and Modern Sonic fans and again keeping Classic Sonic is important so that part of the Fanbase isn't alienated and keeping Modern Sonic is important too but Modern Sonic should be the bread and butter of the series and bring in characters like Mighty, Ray, Fang, Bean and Bark into the Modern Sonic myhtos so the Classic Sonic fanboys can enjoy Modern Sonic aswell.
I'm fine with having both but keep Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic separated and have their own games, Classic Sonic can enjoy the 2D games and Modern Sonic will have 3D mainline games and Spinoff titles.
I grew up with the Advance and Rush games and their style and gameplay felt like an evolution of the classics. The thing with Classic staying around is that we won’t get a Modern style 2D game and I feel like there’s so much untapped potential there. There’s nothing bad about the Classic Sonic formula but it just doesn’t do much to excite me. For comparison I’m hyped as hell for Super Mario Wonder than I am for Sonic SuperStars.
Oh well, if SEGA will never let me play as Silver and Blaze in their modern games, Modern Sonic can stay permanently DEAD for all I care.

I've watched his video like 3 times and it basically boils down to designs and concepts. I still don't understand what it is that basically "needs to die" unless he straight up doesn't want 2D gameplay to return.
The video makes no sense because he said he'd be fine with Classic gameplay but with modern characters. He even goes as far to say that the dimps games play like the classics. I just can't wrap my head around what it actually could be.

Some of Classic sonic’s design’s are so good it’s hard to stop looking at. Take Junio, OVA/Toei sonic, Tyson hesse sonic and superstars sonic. They’re peak. (Maybe OVA isn’t peak but it’s cool)

I think what bugs me about these SonicTubers complaining about Classic Sonic Imagery being apparently everywhere is that at the same time they basically want everything to be like the Adventure Games. DGMW, I like SA1 a lot and I love SA2, but they're NOT IMO the be-all-end-all of Sonic either (whether in terms of Gameplay or Story).

Both sides should stay, I don’t get why everyone wants them to go. If you remove Classic Sonic then the franchise would fall apart and if you remove modern sonic the franchise would fall apart too. Everyone doesn’t realise the franchise has two sides which makes it a whole. They’re both good anyway so I’m tired of this shit.

Plenty of fans want to see characters like Shadow and Silver in a 2D game with momentum based physics like the original Sonic games and Mania, since they have never been in a game like that before. @@Shadicstick I'll admit that saying that he needs to "die" is a bit extreme, but it's the fact that so many people seem so clingy to this mere character design. It wasn't around from about 1998 to 2010 and people seemed to get on ok without it. It wasn't until people started whining about Sonic's design in Sonic 4 that everyone suddenly had this obsession with the older design and suddenly turned on the current one.
People seem to want a "New Classic" game every year! If a Modern game comes out, we've apparently got to have a Classic game as well "just to be fair!" I think that's my main issue with all of this. Yes, on paper it makes sense; Classic fans get what they want in one series and Modern fans get what they want in the other, so everyone's happy, right? Well, clearly not or we wouldn't having these discussions.
I'm going to steal a quote from one of Jebtube's old videos, "For what are supposed to be two separate series, Sega sure like to mix and match whenever they feel like it!" Practically every Modern game since Generations has had some kind of Classic imagery in it, and people are getting sick of it. It just feels like there's this Classic Bias.
Even this "New Classic" game Superstars has a bunch of stuff in it that wasn't in the Classic games. And I know what people are going to say, "They're just allowing Classic Sonic to grow and evolve!" This is the problem. This entire "New Classic" series is all to appease people who refuse to accept that Sonic evolved into Modern Sonic. Sonic Adventure was not a reboot or reimagining of the series, it isn't an alternative timeline or dimension, it was a continuation of what came before it. Yet because a bunch of whiners complained about Sonic's darned eye colour of all things, Sega now feels obligated to appease them by creating an entirely separate series that apparently has nothing to do with "those awful Modern games!"
Yet they can just pick and choose whatever they want to be in these games and Classic fans will eat it up! Rail grinding from the Modern games? "Sure, throw it in there!" Amy's modern dress as an alternative costume! "Of course! No problem with that!" A brand new "Classic" character (which is an oxymoron)! "Fine, fine! Whiney fans have complained about practically every new character Sega have introduced since Tails, but this is a Classic game, so no biggy!" But ask for a 2D game with the Modern character designs, "Oh no no no, it has to be the Classic designs! This is VITAL!"
Like how far can a Classic series really go? What other characters can they utilise? Literally the only Classic characters left are the Chaotix, and last time I checked people hated them! Yet if Sega brought them back in their Classic designs everyone would suddenly love them? Do they introduce new characters into the Classic series? Well then they're not Classic are they, they're new! And isn't one of the biggest complaints in the Sonic series "oh, too many characters! They're always introducing annoying new characters and now Sonic's got a bajillon stupid friends!" So that complaint suddenly doesn't count when it comes to the Classic series? None of this makes any sense! It's all just Classic Bias!
And this is absolutely no disrespect to Superstars! I like the look of this game, I can't wait to play it, I'm intrigued to see what they do with this new character Trip, and if they did bring back the Chaotix in their older designs I'm just happy that they get to be playable again. I'm just sensing a lot of hypocrisy with this whole Classic/Modern divide. I truly think that it's caused more problems than it's solved.
Classic Sonic just lacks big innovations. The concept of the keeping games very simple lead to things like Knuckles needing the power of an emerald to PUNCH.
Having modern Sonic is definitely good, BUT people forget classic sonic is still sonic. Having classic sonic time to time is a good thing because he technically is the sonic who started the whole sonic series. He should live on in New takes. I do prefer if they keep classic sonic in his own continuity, though, and not shoe horn him into modern sonic titles, though.

I highly disagree with anyone in this video or in the comments. Classic Sonic has taken too much of the spotlight in this franchise compared to modern Sonic. He has MORE games than modern Sonic! He's too overrated.
