Tanking is all well and good until you realize you've spent years developing a culture of losing, lack of accountability, and zero leadership.
It’s hard to rebuild when the best picks you got are 9-15 😭😭
wolves 😷😷
@@d4v1do quickley 25th pick, brunson 2nd round pick, grimes 25th pick austin reaves SRP/ 2 way, klay thompson 11th, tyrese haliburton 12th,, tyrese maxey 21st, i could keep going.... stop watching media... these scouts arent great. they miss ALOT more than they get picks right. tanking isnt good and really isnt that great for the selections 80% of the time...
@JJ how many top 3 pick are superstar, top 3 aren't guarantee.
@@formulachan very few. Ironically it’s the players OUTSIDE top 3 that usually are superstars. For every kyrie, lebron pick… there’s a Andrew bogut, Greg oden, kwame brown.
Victor is a generational talent, but at 7’4 he’s one ankle sprain from turning into Zion. The taller ones that can move like kd are at risk in this game. So we’ll see. But man these ppl tanking while we fans pay FULL price to tix is disgusting.
Coach Pop in San Antonio has tanking down to a science without ever giving the obvious impression that they’re tanking the season. 1) Have zero star players on the team. 2) Load the team with players who have no business being in the NBA. 3) Coach them as hard as Duncan & Parker. That way when you lose it’ll look like they were playing as best they could, (because they were) but just couldn’t get it done. No elite NBA talent equals no wins. Welcome to the lottery.
Yet, Nathan picked up on the fact that the Spurs tank.
Same time they develop their youngsters the best way possible
😭😂😂😂
I agree Pop understand how to tank better than anyone else. Not only he is tanking, he is also developing younger players and over looked players to see if there is other potential on them. Although they are not winning, but they are creating chemistry. He is using the whole "tanking" year as pre season or high quality practice session. Once he drafted the talent he needed, the team was already to win with the new addition. Pop is still creating a winning mentality while loosing.
When other teams were tanking, they are asking their players to fake. It is basically telling everyone, you guys all suck, it is demeaning and breaks any little chemistry the team has. Even if they got the talent, they needed, everyone's mindsets are fucked.
😂🤣
“Sposed to got Brandon Roy, ended up wit Randy Foye” is hilarious 😂
That’s an actual player so why is that quote so funny
@@daundisputedtake7238 because Brandon Roy was way better than Randy Foye even though Foye has a okay career
@@felix3033 who had a better Career ?
@@Rinse3lfuerte Foye but who had the better peak ?
man shit, atleast they didn't end up with Shelden Williams. Dumbass Billy Knight smh
There is a easy way to fix the tanking issue. Just reverse the lottery bracket margin and problem fixed.
Instead of the worst team having the best odds of getting the first round pick give it to the team that got eliminated from the play-in. You reward a mediocre team that is trying to compete with a great asset. You punish the teams that dont invest in their players and staff.
Maybe then you will see more veterans on those bad teams and not a starting five that are not at a legal age to drink.
OKC did it smart. They didn’t purposely tank but they made sure they didn’t have the personnel to win. They created a team that had a vet in CP3 that showed the young dudes how to win and be great and then shipped him off to build off that experience
But they didn't think CP would take them to playoffs that year tho. They were truly surprised.
I hope OKC can get Wimby if they miss the playoffs! Imagine him + Chet and Shai. Crazy size and youth!
They sat out Al Horford stop it 😂😂
@@averyb.476Brandon Miller would be great as well

"Goofy Bullshit" as good of a description of tanking as I have heard.
Love this show ...The Most Honest and Real show out here...to really hear what goes on is amazing....really I see its all FIXED/ RIGGED
John Wall spoke up about it to his own detriment… we all know tanking is a thing. Blame Philly 🤷🏾♂️
I feel Gil on that where's the competitive spirit
Gilbert is absolutely spot on with this I like how gill thinks
Dallas traded their best defender wing Finney smith and had nothing to replace it with. Not like Luka and kyrie play defence either.
Cuban is slow
I'm not even a huge basketball fan, but just discovered this show and I'm digging it.
Why Mcants talking like he was cooking the nba 🤣🤣
Mccants is a great addition.
Amazing podcast
Time to force the last four seed to get the from six to tenth picks only. Team should not lose and get a reward too great.(or really to be specific any team lower than 30 wins shouldn’t even have a chance)
some teams really suck tho
Make it so out of the bottom 4 teams, the team with the best record gets the highest chance of a good pick.
Then what happens to the legitimately bad teams?
@@DarkNight-zo5ci get slightly better I ain't asking them to be good
If I was a Dallas Mavericks fan or from Dallas I would be heated
You’d be pissed if they kept those guys mid contracts and 0 options financially until luka wants out.
We not heated bro. We knew we was an easy first round exit. And on top of the fact we keep our top 10 pick to hopefully draft a defensive wing or center I’m not mad. I’m mad we mad it that obvious bc we weren’t gonna win either way and didn’t have to make it known but fuggit.
We have to deal with having the Cowboys every year, we're use to having bad sport club ownership lol.
If I'm a FA and see that the Mavs tanked when they still had a chance to be in the playoffs, cross them off from one of my destinations.
The end when Gil looked at em and said he a get his ass subbed out had me cryin 😂😂😂
How about this, instead of a draft lottery, make it a tournament. The bottom 16 teams compete for position in the draft. Chances are it's gonna be majority smaller market teams so they get a few extra home games. Seedings and home court based off record. That way EVERYBODY has some kinda motivation to play hard all season, whether to make the playoffs or to get top seed in the draft tournament.
That's what they are trying to say Player's and coaches don't tank the organization tries to
Awesome idea I like this
Fxckin Brilliant 🔥
Love this!!!! But I don’t because someone will tank to make it to bottom 16. Almost like “we aren’t good enough to beat Boston or Milwaukee in the East so let’s start losing cuz we can beat Detroit and Indiana in a 16 team tournament😮
@@ItsRilez you're thinking too much bro. That doesn't even make sense. Lose 50/60 games in the regular season ON PURPOSE, but all of sudden hit some magic switch and dominate the tournament for the draft. Not happening bro.
The laughter in the background 😂😂😂😂😂
Need to add a relegation and promotion system with the g league. Bottom 3 teams get sent to the g league
I like this idea
good idea but g league teams dont have enough resources to compete
The NBA PA and the teams would NEVER agree to do that. Imagine you're a team owner paying a dude $30 million a year and he's in the g-league...
@@jikae10 since the nba is growing at a crazy pace. Helping the g league expand into the 2nd biggest league in the world would be super beneficial to them. In like 20 years they could really make a profit
I'm mad i still believe utah had a wester conference final caliber team before they made the trade as long as they kept there composure on defense cause mike conley would have kept them running offense efficiently but you could tell the coach was using certain rotations cause someone from up top said stop winning. what's more it was a team built on lottery picks who are still 3 years from there potential all of them were making leaps and becoming more consistent. if kris middleton is 20 to 24 4/4 malik beasley is becoming a guy that could get you 15 to 20 4/4 and they set themselves back because there just gonna draft a guy who is farther away from being able to get that consistently.
I don’t root for teams unless they got a player I like. It’s like I’m rooting for the gm or the owner if I’m rooting for the team.
Tanking is cheating in reverse. It's still cheating. And, it is so normalized that fans of clubs outside a playoff spot call for their teams to tank. Look at some of the Raptor fanbase for example. Many of them were seriously pissed off that Ujiri brought in a decent center because it would hurt the tank and a chance for a decent draft pick. Like what the actual fvck?
Of all the years to give up a shitton of draft capital for a center that should have been on your team because you didn’t need to trade him away to begin with….this year was not the time
Lmao this episode was one on my favorites. Very insightful and hilarious. I rolled from beginning to end
What episode is this?
Yo gil be giving it up fa real tho, like the whole clause thing gave another layer to watch while I'm watching the game which is crazy cuz I thought I was able to see all angle of the floor dam SMH sport ain't fun no more 😤
3:50 lmao he ain’t lying he scored 28 in a win vs the hawks.
No joke, Mccants is cool. But someone needs to tell him he needs to come in looking like CJ from San Andreas everytime: white wife beater, swole, and Grove street tattoos.
Imagine getting paid millions to intentionally throw games when people paid hundreds of dollars to watch you lose🤣🤣🤣
honestly it screws players too. if an org is at the bottom of the standings, they are doing something wrong. Then they get the top picks from college and are supposed to set them up for success? imagine if zion went to the heat and had to pass their conditioning tests? barkley was forced to slim down, and became a beast. jokic slimmed down on his own, became mvp. theres gotta be a middle ground. you should not be rewarded for being the worst team.
Was up with premieres for reruns?
They going live for real this coming week
Why do they think they created the play in tournaments
Nba should implement some rules like you only get the 14th pick or something when you are one of the five worst teams for more than 2 years. Or make it impossible to get two staight top 5 picks. I ranked every player drafted between 1990 and 2014 in 8 tiers ranging from end of rotation guy to top 50 alltime and odds are you are 3-4 times more likely to get a top 50 player alltime with a top 5 pick than in any other range below, so the incentives to tank are real, especially for small markets who aren't attractive for established stars. Therefore the goal should be to make tanking less attractive with some harsher rules
What they ought to do is put 26 balls in and draw them out to prevent tanking the final 4 teams left in the playoffs depending on the finish wiil go NBA champion last the runner up 29 and whoever came closest out the west and east finals to getting to the nba finals would be 28 and 29 also the play in tournament is a stupid concept I'm tired of these leagues in this country doing shit for quote on quote the fans no they're doing it for money and it's ruined the DNA of sports in general! I'm going to give the WNBA a shoutout here because they went to seeding regardless of the conference take the best 16 and do the playoffs!
Why mccants keep talking like he wasn't a scrub in the NBA
I don’t think the NBA would introduce “forfeit” as that would be too obvious that teams are tanking & fans would not appreciate that. The current system in place at least has teams play because you can hide the fact you are tanking but usually to the untrained eye you just think a team sucks just because
No easy solution. What if they made the lottery from 5th to 15th seed. So a team already making bottom half of playoffs could get rewarded. They should probably give more money to smaller market teams as well tbf
The reason the bottom teams get the drafts is to balance the powers in the nba if the best teams that’s already the best got the best drafts also when would a underdog ever win or generate money when will there have ever been a Michel jordan that brought up a broken down bulls team to see kg build up Minnesota it’s common since it’s for balance
Exactly. people r failing to look at the other side of the coin. its for balance if not every pick will end up in lakers or celtics or a top team. the current process is the reason why mj steph giannis duncan hakeem isiah and many other legends played for teams that were not historically great and developed the legacies of that franchise. if not, people will complain that the nba is not balanced and its only lakers n celtics. hell with the current system celtics have only won one championship since bird left in the late 80s. lakers have seen a bit more success but havent been hogging the championships.
what if the top team got the #1 pick. or the team that lost in the ship , got the #1 draft pick. ( technically they are the first loser , right ? )
it would open up an entirely diff world. imagine the negotiations for the team who lost in the ship but gets the #1 pick..
would change the dynamics of the game. now the bottom tier teams cant "forcefully" tank.
the only issue with this is now the top market teams / top dollar teams basically kill the lower budget teams.
BUT now it really forces the players to come together and play with even more passion. ( the ones on the lower market teams )
End of season tournament, last three seeds are out and the next four are in, last three seeds get picks 5,6,7
Damn coach now we gon win. Should’ve started me… 😬😬😬
The Pistons just showed how to TANK to perfection..
You notice the Dwayne casey mention? No need for that. Dudes gotta go now, its been long enough.
They need to have a playoff for the bottom 4 seeds in both conferences. Whoever wins the championship gets the number 1 seed, runner up gets 2nd and the rest can be left to chance like before. Whoever's the best out of the trash teams gets the top pick.
So you think guys like Sengun or Jabari Smith would go all out so they have a place on the bench behind Wemby next year?😂
5:35 omgggg facts
Discussing the 76ers process strategy from an nba player perspective is funny. What's even funnier, only one franchise in the last 50 years did it somewhat ...
Spurs, Tim Duncan, but even then that only occurred because David Robinson was hurt the year before.
They have contending organizations and hope organizations that fill seats. They'll never lose in the long run of money being generated by attendance.
The STARS keep the contending team seats filled. The HOPEFUL non contender young and exciting teams keep the seats filled
This is what you don’t hear that’s needs to be talked about
Make the mid season tournament results the draft order
Dude be capping he average 10 😂😂😂
Dude said he boutta drop 50.
Lol but it was okay when Philly called it the process
only way to end tanking is doing away with the draft lotery system as is. otherwise the incentive to be bad is real.
That's why I have always said, switch up the order of the draft... You win the finals, you get the first pick... The worse record get the last pick
point shaving for lottery picks *IS GAMBLING!*
Take away first round picks for teams intentionally tanking
WOW!
Who is dude with the crown?
Rashad was a straight up scrub, it’s hilarious that he talks like he wasn’t
Reminds me of the 03 cavaliers.
If two teams are trying to tank, they should just make the points count for the other team.
You know if you "tank" in tennis for example you can get banned for years
One and only solution, start using league systems that other leagues have always been using, you're at the bottom, you drop to the lower league, no rewards for being a loser.
nba needs to add rules to stop these teams from doing it. and also make it a requirement to have a vet on a team instead of all young guys. small market gets away with tanking cause no stars wants to go there, everyone now is teaming up to ring chase. im fine with it lol because of these players choosing which stars they want to play with
They see it as Entertainment since they write ✍️ the checks & care less about competition.
They should flip it. The teams that barely missed the playoffs should get the best chances at the top pick. Likewise the teams at the bottom of the standings pick at the backend of the lottery.
What if every NBA team had the same lottery odds. Would teams still tank??
Lmao yes
@@colinnixon7739that wouldn't happen if all teams had the same odds
They should reward picks in order of best records of teams that don’t make playoffs
Gil needs to be a member of the rule committee!
The league doesn’t care as much as they say they. They market the draft and these top 3 draft picks before they even hit the league. It’s gambling, but no matter who wins the gamble the “league” as a business wins.
🤦why he always got that crown on 🤣
Bruh really showed up with that watch on
Not him bribing the coach for the incentive 😭😭
I say give the top picks to the top teams
That's not a good idea bad teams like the wizards deserve a top pick because yeah they suck but they tried
this is another rashad mcants gen video there are some videos where he is on freakin point some far off but maaaaaaaan he gave us the inside on this stuff today he did great w this subject
IDK WHICH ANKLE HURTS 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Okc thunder in the ultimate rebuild right now
They should really consider it being like 100% random or at least leave out the Finals winner.
Nah. Half the league don't need a first pick. Unfortunately that means less teams are gonna get the chance which raises the odds
Maybe the league should just randomize draft picks every year. Guarantee teams would stop tanking if having the worse record didn’t give you the best odds for a lottery pick.
This would be a good idea.
Luck is part of the game.
So the draft should be included.
Tanking is a result of the American sports model, with closed leagues and franchises. You never see tanking in european soccer. Now, the American model is way safer for the billionares who own the clubs, and the fans doesn't have to go through the heart breaks of relegation. But it also creates situations where the owners make money, even if their teams suck, so there's not really an incentive to win, other than competetiveness.
in fairness, the reason why i'm not to pissed about tanking and the american model as u call it is because, it allows for proper cycle in the sport. where was gsw 15 yrs ago; bucks ten years ago; philly (like 7 yrs ago they had that 'trust the process' deal going on, and now they're a contender), sacramento are now making playoff runs. the problem with the european model is the rich get richer. if nba was run like that lakers n celtics or the teams that have money will have all the draft picks. this is more fair. in football, u know your madrids bayern barcas etc will dominate their league. and the only chance of moving them aside is a middle eastern or russian billionaire buying the club and increasing transfer fees.
i look at it as, not necessarily rewarding a bad team, but allowing for balance. its that system that sees mj, hakeem, steph, duncan, dirk, isiah thomas, giannis, and many other super stars end up in other teams rather than just lakers or celtics.
@@el84oro Just to be clear. I completely agree that the american model allows for more competetive balance than we see in european football. Tanking is just the unfortunate side effect, especially in basketball. It's a little harder to tank in the NFL for example, because most players are on non-guaranteed contracts, so they are playing even more for their livelyhood than the NBA players.
@Mads Peter Hansen that's very true. My thing with tanking is, the teams that tank were really not gonna be good anyways. If they choose not to tank they'll get maybe 5 additional wins. Tanking isn't necessarilly losing on the floor, it's how mgt sets up the team. Besides, if the larger markets can spend over the cap and attract players, a team that's 10 wins and 50 losses can lose a few extra games lol. I think it's valuable in the long term tbh
@@el84oro you would need a hard cap to balance that out. And we all know that's not gonna happen. Or some rule that states that x amount of players would have had to been on a rookie contract with the team. There's not really a perfect solution. There's intense competetive energi when it come to relegation and promotion in european soccer. But of course the chanceof variance at the top in the american model also has it's merits. None of them are perfect. Each got their pros and cons.
Who's the guy with the crown? 😂
They should go back to no play-ins, with last 14 teams playing for no.1 draft pick. Figure something out, upgrades are welcome.
Make it so the last 5 teams cannot be in the finals period. They must play a full season out of the last 5 to be allowed to be in the finals
That woukd fix it
And you wonder why Embid, Simmons, and EVERY player who was part of the "process" is subpar
Embiid subpar ?
No players tank. The organization might look at that but the players are going out there to win or have good stats. But the organization is looking towards the future.
Sitting out guys like Christian Wood does no favor for a young players ego. I understand your stars who you got signed to long term deals but resting rotational pieces is absurd. A lot of coaches are getting unjustly fired , sacrificial lambs.
I mean what do you expect a team that's not a big market, they have no players ain't no players coming there they got to lose to try n get a top pick in the draft , only way a bad team can get better is through the draft.
Detroit had injuries to Cade, Stewart, Burks, Bojan, and Bagley and the rest were either 2 year players or rookies. At the beginning of the season they were talking about making the play in so... now if it want to talk tanking try Dallas...lol
Gil funny bro 😂😂😂😂

Here is the solution since most of the teams thats been taking have BEEN TANKING. Introduce a regulation zone, and do away with the draft. This puts the onus on the teams. If you say then players will go to the same couple teams, welp other organizations better get better staff, and amenities. In every other sector of America there is freedom of choice in American sports you are forced to go to a 💩y situation. (tanking teams) These teams owners just want profit, most wont do everything possible to build a winning team cause that costs money, and rookie deals are way cheaper Im a Pistons fan so this doesn't help me nun. I miss when my team was a winner and a mainstay in the postseason. My team has been tanking since Obama came in the first year of his first term smh. America has gone through 2 recessions since the Pistons was a consistent fixture in the postseason.
& sports is Rich people's luxury 🤷🏽♂️
The pistons didn’t tank.. Cade just got hurt
Facts
Gills right
Why does he wear a crown can someone tell me 😭😭😭
The lottery shouldn’t discriminate. Give all 30 teams an equal chance at the number pick and tanking is immediately gone.
Even the bottom 10 teams having a lottery for all the picks. 1 could pick 10th. 10th could pick first. That would eliminate tanking.
Equal odds
Tanking is part of sports it’s just what it is
Minnesota is proof if you're gonna tank you need to be smart to tank spent a whole year to get randy foye😂😂
