  • 🌉 Trajan’s Bridge 🌁
Roman Emperor Trajan’s military bridge built over the Danube River with a boat sailing underneath. It’s not the best condition, but these coins are extremely rare even in this condition.
The bridge was one of Rome’s greatest architectural achievements and it was quite the feat to accomplish.
Danube Bridge was 3,724 feet long, 49 ft wide, 62 ft high, & consisted of 20 stone pillars. Construction began on 103 AD & ended in 105 AD.
It was situated east of the Iron Gates, near the present-day cities of Drobeta-Turnu Severin in Romania and Kladovo in Serbia. Its construction was ordered by Trajan as a supply route for the Roman legions fighting in Dacia. After finally defeating the Dacians and acquiring their gold mines was so great that Roman games celebrating the conquest lasted for 123 days, with 10,000 gladiators engaging in fights and 11,000 wild animals being killed during that period.
Obverse: Laureate bust of Trajan facing right with slight drapery on far shoulder.
Reverse: Arched bridge over Danube river, with arched tower at either end, boat sailing below.
