We were asked to create a post apocalyptic city diorama, and so we did! Using cereal boxes, foam, lights and painting we made this dark little cityscape.

Those glamour shots at the end - my brain was just like 'this looks like a real life city how is it so intricate' and 'no wait this is totally animated because those shots I mean how does it look so perfect' to 'wait no this actually exists in real life oh my gosh'. Incredible! The cork idea was brilliant, the vegetation really completed the look, the graffiti looks so realistic, and those final shots didn't feel like a miniature. Can't believe how much detail you were able to pack in. And the lighting!? That really took it to another level that I didn't know was possible

Absolutely mind blowing! Every time you added something I thought "Ah yes now it's looking really amazing" and then you kept adding little things, layers of paint, etc, and by the end cinematic it legit took me a second to realise it wasn't a real city or a shot of the game but your diomara :O You both absolutely nailed it! Also it was really cool to see Hansi try painting and all that, I love videos where we see both of you and how you complete each other's work.
I've only done one tiny """diorama""" as a kid after watching art attack but your channel is really making want to try and make something of my own! I love how you find so many materials to add details (like reusing the frames to make the pipes) and I'm curious of what I could to with a tiny budget and recycled stuff. So big thanks for the incredible videos and for inspiring us to try things!! x

Let me start by stating up-front that I have no artistic ability at all. I want to make a "book nook" but have not had the nerve to even start planning it. Never know until you try? I am the worst artist and painter in the world, and can't manage anything more than a black wash, but turns out I'm pretty good at miniature work. Maybe you'll end up enjoying it

Another thing I love about this channel is the comments - they're always so wholesome and supportive; you see people everywhere lifting each other up and encouraging them - which, in social media these days is becoming increasingly rare. Idk about you, but I find the most difficult thing about embarking on a project is often the overriding fear of Just Getting Started, and all the conversations in our head convince us it will come out rubbish or we just can't do it. I really hope you have found a way to get over any initial resistance - if not, this little nudge is to encourage you to begin.

When the diorama assembly montage starts and there is absolutely no question that every single detail was necessary and fit the theme, this is always when my heart starts racing and my eyes open wide like I'm a kid again experiencing something new for the first time. Your videos are not only wildly entertaining, but inspiring in so many ways. The amount of creativity, skill, ingenuity, story telling, technology, video editing, energy, etc is just off the charts where you forget there's a chart at all and can't help but love every second of these videos. Well done Nerdforge!

It looks uncannily similar to a real abandoned city (not that I've ever seen a real one). The last few shots of the final result really made me feel like I was walking though an abandoned city.
The only problem with its veracity is that in such a setting one must take out and/or deform a few railing uprights. Having lived in rundown urban settings and dangerous neighborhoods, I can tell you at some point someone puts someone else’s head through such railings, it is inevitable.
It reminded me of TWD's intro 🙌 like a movie

Guys this video is just next level. I seriously felt like I was watching a proper high production TV show. I loved seeing more of Hansi talking to camera and I was especially impressed with the way you broke all the different sections of the build up - it really was a pleasure to watch. Even your choice with ad placement seemed super natural. If I was the marketing team for Dying Light I would give you guys a massive bonus and hire you back a million times over. The diorama itself is the most incredible piece - the details are truly insane! Well done!!
I've actually been playing this game, and can easily say that this diorama captures the feel so well, both of the game as a whole, and the reference image as well; while still having a unique flair of your own style and personality.
Some of the other comments call out your immense skill at walking and talking through your steps, and your wonderful and encouraging demeanor and bright personality (not to mention awesome hair) - I agree completely. You really give inspiration for anyone who wants to try their hand at it, that they could have a go at this, and with practice and effort, create something to be proud of - even if it may take a long time to get on your level!
I would also add my compliments on the incredible cinematography and editing of your videos. You always capture such great shots, and the "final result" segments are such a masterclass of evocative pans, interesting cuts, and... just, yeah. Bravo.
I have rapidly come to realize that the variety and level of skills you display, both each personally, and as a channel, bring home the idea of true "renaissance creators."

Watching this video right after finally starting to play my most anticipated game was wow. I was hyped about Dying Light 2 for so long and the game is *chef's kiss* and this diorama really feels like I'm in the game, standing on some rooftop, looking at the city

I totally agree. Other videos make it feel like art is fast and thus simple, and then we get impatient spending time on ours. Seeing that it takes talented people with knowledge and experience a while too puts everything into perspective.

Was a little upset you didn't use any Cocoa Krispies cereal boxes, but once you started building it I got over it. hahaha Great seeing your man doing the domes. NICE!!! And the buildings look stupendous. Oooh and the filament lights were great. Arilla's miniatures were a nice added touch. Nice to see you adding other talents to your projects. The cork sheet worked really well as the asphalt street. Great idea. I still have some cork left from the trumpet wah/wah mute I fixed many years ago.
The details were to die for. Especially the small beer bottle and the many plants and greenery. You guys outdid yourselves on this one.
I was once working on set in Hollywood making props for "People Under the Stairs" a Wes Craven movie, when one of the window frames (life size) got a broken window pane. Seriously I didn't do it. I was on a break. lol Any way I was about to fix it when the director saw it an said "Leave it like that it will add more realism to the set." That's when I told everyone I did it. lol Your windows reminded me of that. I love watching you guys. You both are the most interesting on You tube. My favorite thing about her videos is when there is a time lapse she has a clock and I have not seen anybody else do this and it just gives a sense of how much time is put into these cool projects

Incredible. So many times, I think as many times as you've uploaded a video, I have said out loud while watching, in silent concentration, "..incredible...". But this one, it hit me on so many levels, the tiny neon signs, the composite board street, the miniatures painted by that awesome woman I immediately paused the video to go follow, mushing the broken up popsicle sticks in ink and paint to make them look exactly like rotten wood, the graffiti, everything. Literally everything put into this project made me so happy and excited to see how it turns out. I hope this channel continues for many many more years. As soon as I start making more money, I'm definitely subscribing to this Patreon. I've never Patreoned to anything, but this one I actually really want to, so I can see more stuff!
Incredible work. I feel like I say that every time but I’m blown away every time, too! The details are incredible and it actually has that feeling of dread looking around the abandoned street, the broken windows where anything could be hiding, alleyways and doors where things lurk. And then the little signs of life - The bar and the leftover bottles, the lights still working. Credit to Hansi for the lights as they look perfect 👍 Definitely a quality build and lots of great tips for others to try on their own dioramas.
For a future project I think you need to jazz up that clock you use to track build times! A really awesome NerdForge clock that you can proudly display off to the side as you work! It could either be fantasy based in wood and magical lights, in cyber punk neons, or like todays post apocalyptic style. I know you both would come up with something epic.
I also thought what if when you started a project you had a button on the clock and it would keep counting until you hit the stop button and it would show you how many days/hours/minutes the build took. You could either start the clock every time you started working on it for the day, or just have it always counting into you finished the project. Just a thought 💭

By far one of my favorite builds by you guys. Amazing work. By looking at your hands I can yell you all busted your butts trying to get this done. Very cool, I love the lights and the miniature stuff. All Amazing. Love it, and the game looks like so much fun.
There are no words to appreciate this. Those bodies dangling from the bridge...the smell...ugh. that chair and tables by the bar with signs of life, like someone is watching the city from above. Just Superb. Everything is aged so well, the graffiti, weeds, grime
That cork asphalt idea was straight genius - I think one of the most impressive things about what you guys do is look at a finished product and figure out (down to the tiniest detail) how you'd construct it. Incredible
A sheet of sandpaper could also be used for a road and painted to the desired effect and you can also choose how course it is to fit in with the chosen scene E.G. sand/gravel path more course, smooth asphalt road more fine
Especially the already black sheets for asphalt. I will say that an even paint job might be hard and a wash would be really difficult to do since paper towels will still to the more coarse sand papers, but a 320 would work fine.

The post apocalyptic diorama turned out cool. Though personally would of loved to see more distruction to the buildings, like bricks or holes in them things like that. Though also understand why you didn't too. Since the insides would of need to have some paint jobs. STILL AMAZING. Your work keeps getting better and better every time!
I love the Dying Light games and when I tell you my jaw was on the floor in awe of the meticulous small details like the air conditioners on the outside of the buildings, and the lights! So so so cool! You did the game so much justice!!
One of the (many!) things I like about watching you guys work your magic is how, despite having *so* much experience, you keep trying new things, finding new ways to do things, and finding new uses for things you're already using (e.g., corkboard for asphalt, those way-cool "neon" lights).
The level of detail in this project and all of your projects is just ridiculous. You are clearly so passionate about this and it shows in all off the amazing work you do, I am truly amazed everytime I click on any of your videos, the amount of time, effort and dedication put into each tiny little detail is so so astonishing. Love this city!!! Tip: Scratching the acrylic surface before adding glue will help the glue to adhere more strongly to the acrylic.
Years ago I spent some time doing various Wall Murals for hair salons, restaurants and residential rooms, like kids rooms and the like.
Several walls I did in the hair salon were Egyptian themed and because of the sheer size of these wall pieces I needed a short cut to achieve stone like texture with the paint.
I used regular Big Can Wall Paint.
EGG SHELL Finish specifically.
All indoor wall paint is, is Acrylic Paint! Just a thicker pigment concentration than standard Art acrylic paint.
A large can of Brown paint plus a small can of Black and a another small can of White and a myriad of small tubs of art acrylics and I had everything I needed for all those Egyptian sculptures to be textured.
The wall paints mix Extremely well with even Dollar Store Art acrylic paints. For large scale projects like this Post Apocalyptic City Scape, I'd be using Egg Shell acrylic wall paint for all your major stone and cement textured surfacing.
Easy short cut and a little paint goes a long way making a big can supply last a long time. Keep some stor sticks handy to give the paint a stir if it's been sitting for a while, or even pop down to the paint shop and have them shake mix it again to freshen it up before use.
The larger the project, the better the deal by swapping out a few materials here and there can still go a long way.

What material did you make those castles with, and HOW did you make such a perfect circle for that courtyard?
@@Jadebones Thank you very much for your kind words ... the whole building is made from the inside with model paper and from the outside lined with clay ... I made the circle from the inside first with cardboard and then I glued a thin layer of clay on it. I take photos of all my dioramas in the open air and in nature because there is nothing better like sunlight.
