    Bus lanes are just for them to drive in, so they can avoid traffic, be on schedule and incentivize people using public transport as they don't get stuck in traffic.
    Sometimes bus lanes can be used by normal traffic outside peak hours, or for overtaking etc.

      Yep! Here in the UK you often see bus lanes totally empty even though its the time of day when normal traffic is allowed to use it, because people are scared to get fined if they use the bus lane hehe. But yes usually bus lanes are for buses and emergency vehicles only! And you don't need to use hazard lights (flashers) when stopped unless you've broken down.

    Fun fact for Berlin: maybe you noticed but there are a lot of blue or sometimes pink pipes running true Berlin. They're used to pump the groundwater from the soil at construction sites.
    Berlin used to have a lot of swamp land and therefore the ground is very high in water content, which in turn makes it softer and more difficult to build on. That's also why you don't really see any skyscrapers in Berlin.
    Wherever there's a construction zone close to the centre you'll be seeing those pipes. Almost look some art installation though.

    There are real companies because as a representation of a real-life place, having a Burger King where there is actually a Burger King isn't a violation of Trademark rules. There are a lot of misconceptions about Trademark and this idea that you cannot use logos or names of real companies in a commercial product, which isn't true. This is a perfect example of a completely legal and logic use of trademarks in a commercial product. It's similar to how a TV show or Movie can film on location with a McDonalds or Walmart in the background.

  • @TheGamingNorwegian
    @TheGamingNorwegian Před 3 lety +39

    The rain effects on the windshield is incredible. Also, in Europe the bus lane is for the busses to drive in, not just pull over in if that makes sense. Firstly, so they dont hog up traffic when stopped, secondly so they can drive past the traffic in the main lanes. In Norway you also gotta yield for busses coming out of bus stops and bus lanes if the speed limit is 60kmh or under, not sure if thats how it is in Germany tho... Might be the same. Busses here also do go out of drive when stopped, on some busses the doors wont even open if its still in gear.

    Hey. I'm a bendy bus driver from Norway. We drive similar buses in Oslo where I'm from. We definitely do not remove from drive and put on the hand brake, though someone use the hand brake during longer stops (e.g. waiting for a green light on a long red), but still leaving the bus in drive. Also in Norway at least we don't use the hazard lights while on a bus stop. We only indicate to the right. Last thing: when turning with a bendy bus, you can turn as son as the "bendy" part has passed the the curd. Before that you should actually keep a more or less straight line, then make a harder turn, especially in those tight corners you made.

    Hey Jeff, remember in North America (at least in Canada, and some places in the US) and Europe vehicles are required to yield to buses, they can also go straight in right-turn lanes if there is a bus lane or bus stop ahead. Also great video! Thanks for getting me through lockdown man. Also I love the longer videos, not sure about others but they're great fun! Feels like a mini live-stream. Continued, buses are leaned at terminals, to board older passengers or passengers with disabilities or at the request of a passenger.

    I'm in law school and went on an exchange semester to Berlin last year. Or well, it didn't really pan out the way I expected it would (the semester runs from April through July and I arrived in March... Yeah.) but I ended up spending about a month and a half there. The scenery in the video definitely makes me miss that place! Especially the areas around Hauptbahnhof, Unter den Linden, Lustgarten (where the huge Berliner Dom church is near end of the route) and Alexanderplatz (the terminus with the TV tower). The graphics are really well done and capture the atmosphere fairly well imo. Fun fact: you actually picked a line that doesn't exist anymore. Tegel Airport closed late last year when the new BER airport was opened.
    Thanks for making this! Wish I could go back.

    Hi Jeff! Some tips on driving European buses!
    1. Bus lanes are there to drive at any time, they are used to pass regular traffic, which is congested rather often. So, drive in them if they’re there, they’re not only for buses which stop along the lane.
    2. About the “flashers”, as you name them (so American lol :)), usually, drivers only turn on the right side blinker, and only use the emergency blinkers when they’re needed for their purpose (stopped on irregular places.
    Great video! I’ll be back for the next one for sure :)

    So Jeff I am a bus driver in the Utah one thing we are trained on is to remember out steer wheels are behind us, in order to turn we are taught to line up our shoulders to the curb for right turns and the center line for our left turns, if you do it like that yoy won't miss a beat.

    I'm a transit driver in Philadelphia and we put the bus in park. We have air suspension on the right side suspension to lower for people who have trouble stepping up and down (called "kneeling"), and in order to enable it we have to be in park. As for bus lanes we only drive into them when stopping, at least that's procedure (in my city).

    In the UK at least we use the bus lanes always, buses, taxis etc are permitted to use them at all times, and there are signs for certain times of the day that cars can also use them to reduce congestion and traffic in busy areas. The idea behind the buses having their own lanes is to ensure the buses arrive to their stops on time seen as we're fairly strict with that kinda stuff and have bus schedules displayed at each stop which are very specific times and at least where I live there is a bus to the stops every 7 minutes. Happy to give you any other info with UK roads which generally are fairly similar to German roads

    Lean/kneel feature is to help make it easier for people to get on and off the bus. The only time I kneel the bus is for elderly people, people with disabilities, to deploy the ramp (if the curb isn't too high) and people with strollers and or little cart things.

  • @glimtecharms5115
    @glimtecharms5115 Před 3 lety

    If you are operating a kneeling bus, this is usually set to auto so when you stop, the P Brake is set, and the door is open, it will drop. It will only drop when the bus is stopped and the P Brake is applied. Yes the P Brake should be applied when loading and unloading passengers (In AZ and PA they are required to set the brake and FMC states School Busses must always set the brake).
