  • Many people are taught to believe that “If the Bible says it, that settles it.” But what do you do when that argument no longer cuts it?

I’m really enjoying this series. I thought these were current messages but, I’m so glad I somehow stumbled upon them here in 2020.

This and part 4 together are astonishingly compelling. Unlike cosmological arguments, There’s very little room for theoretical applications as the message is primarily historically based.

This is probably one of the most impressive sermons I have heard. I've always been someone who loves the Bible, loves History, and respects Science. I know you had to do a tremendous amount of work to share this insight because it's risky to take on this subject of Faith, the Bible, and the Resurrection of Jesus. Some don't ever want their faith questioned while others don't have any faith to question. It's a narrow tightrope and if this doesn't reach them than I can't imagine that there is anything that would penetrate their ego and armor because they so desperately want to be right for reasons no one can fully understand. Maybe they want to be right and prove their parents wrong. Your message to those who have stepped away from Jesus is just as important to those who have never stepped away even though we realized that others were questioning our Faith and have used the Bible as justification to prove us wrong and maybe they were like me, it never changed my mind, my heart, my feelings because Jesus was so indelibly part of my soul that I never felt I had to defend Jesus to anyone. My Grandfather was a Lawyer & I spent many early years at the back of a Courtroom listening to 2 people present different sides of same event. At some point something someone said or did, tipped the scales of Justice in their favor. As we have so often seen in pictures, Justice is blind and the scales tip in favor of the truth. At least we hope there's very little room for error.
I was extremely impressed with this sermon. You stated what I've always known, felt, but never been able to explain. Thank you. ..

Very impressive review of Christianity's timeline. Undoubtedly the fastest recorded growth of any religion in the world's history. Still, so many unverifiable circumstances and events. People of that time were so creative with their beliefs, it's not far removed from a time where Apollo, Vitiris and the wheel God were viable. You only have to look around other parts of the world of that time period and see cult like societies participating in human sacrifice and other barbaric activities such as the Mayans. They all had Gods, how do they factor in? Why did Jesus make it so difficult for his children to believe? Why the mystery? Why not appear convincingly in modern times? How do the neanderthals factor in? Why did people of India, the Americas, and Asia not get a visit were they not important to God? Why is there no historical proof of the huge mass of refugees which Moses led from Egypt to Canaan? So many inconsistencies and then there is the Council of Nicea where the books were basically debated upon whether or not to be included in the eventual 66 books that would make up the Bible. I wish I had a strong faith as some of my friends who seem to be able to just give their problems to God. I have more questions than answers when it comes to religion.

If you have ever driven by a car accident; I am sure you noticed investigators (scientists) making measurements in order to determine the cause of the accident. The measurements reveal the why? How? And so on.
If you studied any science such as: biology, chemistry, physics, etc., you will find a pattern that conveys the involvement of an intelligent Creator. Here's an example for you, think about how strong nuclear forces work in conjunction with electromagnetic forces in electrons (in atoms) to eventually form compounds. It seems everything is in the right amount (the amount of forces are not too little, not too much) and in the right place.
Allow me another example, sunlight is created by fusion. Two very basic elements of hydrogen combine or fuse to form helium; releasing a massive amount of energy -- that we mortals call sunlight.
That sunlight is then use in the thylakoid membranes of the chloroplasts (in a leaf). What is the end product? ATP and NADPH which is later used to make energy and eventually -- YOUR FOOD in the form of sugar!
You and I could talk about anything in any branch of science, and you will see the finger prints of a Designer.
For some of your questions you are probably going to have to wait for scientific tools to become more advanced and for new discoveries in archeology to be made. But for now, you can't deny this universe has some kind of equilibrium, order, or synchronicity that leads you to the conclusion that this didn't happen by chance, but was designed and created by an intelligent Being. -- All evidence points to G-d.

The best way to develop good faith is reading the actual text of the Bible, and digesting the words as practically as possible. You can find this principle taught in Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The 66 books of the Bible were officially recognized as God’s Word in the 4th Century, but those books were proven powerful for many generations before, as they have for many generations since. This is the greatest tool we have for developing faith.
Andy has some pretty good logic in these talks, but he is casting doubt on the accuracy of the Old Testament and that is a big mistake. Nothing good will come of his doubt.
Imagine having a pen pal that you constantly fact check arbitrarily, but you don’t actually read through her letters. You would be actively breaking down your relationship. If we read the Bible and try to appreciate the words of it, we become like decent pen pals that God can work with.
God has worked in my life many times along the way, and it is awesome when he does, but you really have to take a step of faith first to experience that. It’s like stepping on a subway and experiencing the journey, but it’s easier to just let it go by. And in this case, we are wasting the best thing in life if we let it go by.

This is the same guy who suggests that it's time for Christians to detach themselves from the Old Testament. I'm assuming this was just a portion of the sermon. I find it extraordinary that during this message, Stanley does not refer to one single scripture. No wonder he wants you and me to detach ourselves for the Old Testament. He obviously doesn't believe it himself. If you're a member of this church, run.

Context is key and I would encourage you to watch the whole series before making such a jugdment. I have read and listened to Andy Stanley and it clear that what he says is accurate. A lot of the time however, he is mischaracterised because people dont take the time to listen to him fully.
