  • This karting how to video is all about how I mount my gopro cameras on my shifter kart go kart. I use 3 seperate gopros, a gopro hero 4 a gopro session and the other cheap gopro. the kart is a unique video plateform for mounting cameras due to the sheer speed of them and the vibration so therefor your biggest hurdles for good video quality will be to capture the best sound = least amount of wind noise and the smoothest video which equals 60fps and my mounting positions.

    Thanks for making the video! I know it’s already 4 years old, but really helped a first timer. Had the GoPro set to 30fps, because I thought I was only going to get down to 30fps anyway why bother with the extra data . Had tons of shaking, will give 60fps a try!!

    Nice vid Matt. Love seeing different angles of karting vids, keeps it interesting. I love having my GoPro on my chin but I've only got one, so at the end of the year when I try and make a season video I realize I only have one angle for everything which gets a little boring to watch. Probably going to pickup one of the sessions they look light and small enough to stick anywhere

    good stuff I just had to try a nose cone viewpoint at 1 track I go to ( just a quick temp mount footage was a bit too shaky ) as they say they dont want to allow helmet cams anymore after uk karting association told them not to allow helmet cams but some tracks still allow them so its messed up.

    great video good tips! I also like the helmet cam the best but the additional weight really strains my neck. I am thinking about trying the chin mount though which I have seen people do too.
    I usually use the radiator mount which I think other than the helmet mounts, is best if you are only using one camera, it shows feet and steering but it really does miss out on a good part of the right side action. Why does skusa ban that one?
    I've used the front fairing mount before also high up, but it is just way too bumpy for me. might be due to my style of bodywork and how the bodywork is mounted. Radiator is mounted on rubber dampeners which I think smooths it out a bit.

    There is speculation that Schumacher's helmet camera cause his helmet to break/split when he had his skiing accident. I agree with you in that mount gives the best view, but prob not gonna be legal any time soon.

      Really? I used to use this all the time. I race at 2 tracks. One of them allow it but the other one says it needs to be on the kart and attached in 2 places.

    If I mount the camera on top of my head should I keep the camera standing up or should I bend it a little bit down?

    Cool!
    Not Irl karting related, but any plans on possibly doing a Project Cars series? I'm having a hard time finding a serious LP of Career mode(full lenght races, 100% AI, 1st person view, etc). I bought the GOTY edition recently from steam & I'm enjoying it though I have a hard time dealing with AI & I find the karting hard to do with the short tracks & tight corners, maybe watching a series from a real kart racer would help with setups & how to handle the karts.

    Tip: Try putting you GoPro on your radiator, it gives you a good view of the track and who can see your whole body work, its great footage

      @Corky3D Před 7 lety +1

      He says in the video that his series doesn't allow that and he also did put a clip of it mounted on the radiator.

    True racer! Got a GoPro Hero 3 and want to mount it on the helmet chin! I like it because its the closest footage of our POV :) Can you say how you fix it to the helmet chin? I saw you have the adapter for the camera direct n the front, but how you fix it so it wont be facing down?

  • @LasseJOugaard
    @LasseJOugaard Před 7 lety

    Interesting. I run my GoPro on the chinbar of the helmet, just like yours. That's how the videos in my channel of karting and motorcycle is filmed.
    It did that once i a race. They told me something vague along the lines of "We ALMOST black-flagged you but just don't do it again.". Didn't risk it, so that's why I only have one video of a heat from that angle :P

    • @LasseJOugaard

  • @Linbrook09

    I agree. The chin mount is the best view and safest in my opinion. No way that thing is coming off. Double strapped around the the helmet.

    which protection do you use on top of the gopro? Is the Super Suit (meant for snorkeling) a good choice (around 40€) or will a lens-protection (20€) be enough?

      Just a lense cover. If i put a full case then the sound is not good

    I agree that helmet mounting can be a little dangerous.
    But to me it's the best angle to watch. You can feel more the action.

      your best bet is searching for your local kart track they should be able to guide you in the right direction on age groups and kart racing to suit you and your budget please ( DONT ) go out buying a kart stick to renting one and your local track to see if it is something you really want to do ist.

    • @GreenRider1982

      Look up L206 karts, cheapest way into karting. Make sure your local track has the class.

    Just scrolling for answers to this as I run mine on top of my helmet. Was at our National Champs in the weekend and a guy and an end over end roll and landed on this head on the camera and sustained a serious injury because of it. The cameras were banned for helmet mount on the second day. Was sickening to see and the footage of the event has since been removed from CZcams as it was being live streamed. We race on Grass so can be rougher - that's why most use the helmet.
