  • In this video I show you how to "hot wire" 12 volt power to your power seat when working on a vehicle with no engine, battery or electrical power available. if you are trying to remove power seats from a truck or car in the junk yard this is a must watch! This video specifically shows how to do this in a 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban Avalanche, Cadillac Escalade, Yukon, Hummer H2. However, you can also use this basic technique for any car or truck out there. Just identify the two power wires and hook up your jump box!

    Brilliant, thanks for this! I'm building a power office chair from a passenger seat out of an '08 Cadillac. They have the same harness & controls as far as I can tell as this Tahoe so I'm looking forward to getting it built. I've never really understood why high-end vehicle bucket seats are so much more comfortable than anything I've ever had inside of my house. I can ride for 12 hours in my Caddy (same seat pretty much) and never be uncomfortable but home chairs, and especially office chairs don't have near the adjustability nor the support or comfort. So I'm doing it myself! Thanks again!~

    Thanks!! I'm gutting an 03 Suburban, lent it to a friend, he disappeared and when they found it - he totaled it. But the inside is immaculate. So I bought an 03 Tahoe with the reverse issue. Apparently a soccer mom knew how to drive, but basically raised 5 kids in it. So the inside - 'nough said there.
    Will be watching many more i'm sure. Thanks again!

    Great video! I went to Pick A Part to get a center console from a Chevy Tahoe. You can only remove the console after removing the seats. After watching this video I picked up a portable battery booster/charger from Harbor Fright. It worked perfectly and I was able to remove the electric seats. One other thing I discovered is on Chevy full size vehicles there are two 13 mm nuts under the seats located on the front left and right side corners. If you remove those nuts the bottom of the seat can be removed giving you easy access to the wiring without trying to reach under the seat looking for wires……

    Thx for the helpful video man got a cheap power pack at harbor freight it worked good. Now I can move both seats to make room to put my kids in back. Learned that the fuse that controls both seats also affects the passenger window mine wouldn’t roll down cuz of it . Replaced the 30amp circuit and 50 amp fuse and unplugged both seats since one seat had a short somewhere, at least now I can lower both my windows and got seats where they needed to be . Ur vid helped a ton

    You can also use a battery pack for a drill or impact gun. Strip the leads back, red wire goes to the B+ terminal, black wire goes to the B- terminal. Stick ‘em in there, boom.

    I wish I would have seen this the other day. ( And yes I did look on YT and only found one of a guy who ripped out some long wires from the front of the seat (Yeah, right) to jump it. It did nothing. I found a seat with an almost perfect bottom cushion, in a wrecking yard, that was still bolted in. I managed to drill one front stud out, from underneath, but hit a weld on the inside one, because you can't really see it, as it is hidden partially, and had to cut the leg off. One of the rear bolts was out, but I had to rip the other captive nut loose with my 1/2" Dewalt impact, and then grab the bolt with vice grips, and turn the nut off with a wrench. Took me three different tries to get it out. It was really starting to become a White Whale. (Ironically the Tahoe was white too...LoL...) Luckily, they ended up giving it to me for free, because it was such a hassle.

    • @thehoodscoop1969
      @thehoodscoop1969  Před 5 lety

      maybe? I think the bigger problem is securing them to the floor as every seat in every different car mounts to the floor at different heights and in different locations. My suggestion would be to get a set of seats from the generation that your truck belongs to. it will cost you less in the long run not to mention be safer overall.

      A year late to your question, but no, it's unlikely unless the harness from the clip back to the battery has been compromised somehow and isn't getting juice to the motor(s) in the seat.

    Why do they have so many freaking wires if all you need is a positive and a ground?

      If the seats are heated, the controls for that circuit are normally mounted remotely in the door panel or center consoles, whereas the seat motor functions are in the seat itself.

      TheHoodScoop I figured out how to do it two of the seat motors went out and was stuck all the way forward you take the motors out and put the little square thing in a drill and you can move your seat with a drill
