Copeland is a truly amazing drummer. His timing is perfect and some of the off-beat and syncopated rhythms he plays are genius. And I can think of no other drummer that can work a hi-hat the way he does. Peter Gabriel is notorious for disliking cymbals - when he records he doesn't even let his drummer's set them up with their kits, but he had Stewart Copeland come to the sessions for So just to play hi-hat on Red Rain, one of my favorite PG songs.

Stuart Copeland (the sole American in the trio) is one of the greatest drummers in the history of rock. His rhythms are so complex and his playing so crisp and technical but still so funky and danceable. It really defines The Police's sound almost as much as Sting's voice.

Truth. Any effort toward just intonation brings happiness. Western music has been imprisoned by equal temperament for far too long (that darn piano). Blues artists, later, Jazz and Soul groups tried to break the cycle to good effect. In the last decade, Earth received Jacob Collier from whatever planet it is he was beamed down from to further the message. Bless him. And steel pans, which often stray "out of tune" and are "unprofessionally" corrected toward "Just."

Love The Police. Their pop rock sound was one of the definitive sounds of the early 1980s.

"Ghost In The Machine" was their 4th album and definitely marked a change in their sound. A lot thicker textures with more keyboards and Sting even playing Saxophone on some tracks.

@@fgf366 Of course they are very similar, but one must be seated to play the cello, while one may stand when playing the bass.

I think Sting must have liked Montserrat because apparently he was there on holiday when Dire Straits were recording Money For Nothing and he ended up with his vocals all over that song.

I could have tugged on STING'S Pant leg, I was that close!
