    In this video, you'll discover how to produce deep, hypnotic techno drums in Ableton Live by following my proven, step-by-step framework. My name is Philip from Pick Yourself, and I've created this channel to help electronic music producers like you make meaningful progress with their music.
    Atmospheric drums and percussion sounds are the backbone of that unmistakable hypnotic groove in Techno. If you want your tracks to transport listeners to a different dimension, it all starts with crafting those mesmerizing rhythms. I'm going to show you exactly how to do that, and the best part is, you can apply these techniques in any DAW, whether it's Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic, or Cubase.
    In this tutorial, we'll dive deep into creating captivating hi-hats, claps, and other percussive elements that give you that signature hypnotic Techno sound. You don't need expensive plugins or an extensive gear collection - I'll be using Ableton Live's built-in devices, making this accessible to everyone.
    By the end of this video, you'll not only have a crystal-clear understanding of crafting hypnotic techno drums, but you'll also have a practical framework you can apply to your next tracks immediately.

    That vinyl and fire crackle sounds so good! I also like putting an LFO on a frequency shifter to make less tonal sounds evolve in a track, kinda like how you put that LFO on the filter.

    Arrangement video would be amazing. especially when it comes to techno, i have the feeling that there are so many more possibilities than e.g. pop music where the arrangement is (in most of the cases) pretty straight forward

    Hello, great video once again. Keep them coming. Whats your thoughts on putting a limiter on the kick at -8 or similar and on the different layers of the kick? Is the purpose to keep the levels below a threshold or does it provide something different to say using a utility and just turning down the gain to -12 or -10 or whatever your preference is.

    • @pickyourselfofficial
      @pickyourselfofficial  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Great question! I don’t find this approach particularly useful. I’d follow exactly the process I’ve laid out in my gain staging video and simply decide by how it sounds whether or not I even want a limiter (and how much of it). Here’s the video in case anyone is wondering: czcams.com/video/13n68Xby66c/video.htmlsi=DMlKrQb3QbSsT6dk

    Really helpful tips, thanks for sharing. By adding the toms the way you did, how do we know it's not too much low for a club system and swamp the listeners with the combined kick/bass and toms? You did state to be careful, and maybe gate or volumeshape it. But I can't test the result in a club. Is there a dB ratio rule to think of for example: kick 0dB then bass -6dB and maybe toms at -9dB?

    • @gutterg0d
      @gutterg0d Před 6 měsíci +1

      "I can't test the result in a club" - Many clubs (even small ones) have systems that would reveal problems. Maybe try asking at some local venues if it could be ok to try some of your tracks out there at some point (don't ask to play a DJ set if you don't know how well your tracks will work though, ask for testing at off hours)? If you don't feel comfortable playing your track with someone around you don't need to worry about it sounding like crap at a club anyway. Doesn't even have to be a club, I tested some of my tracks out in a school auditorium which was very helpful.

    • @pickyourselfofficial
      @pickyourselfofficial  Před 6 měsíci +1

      In a best case scenario you’d be DJing anyway and test your upcoming productions in a real set. This often reveals the brutal truth, haha. If that’s not an option (yet), I’d say you simply make sure to focus on the low midrange (200-800Hz) on the Toms as well as some transients and other overtones in the upper midrange (2-6kHz) and keep the area below 200Hz rather clean for kick and (sub)bass. Don’t overthink it. If it sounds good on your speakers and headphones and maybe also in your buddie’s studio and his earpods, chances are it’s also gonna be fine on club systems. I short: Progress over perfection ;)

    Hi Phillip, vielen vielen lieben Dank für all deinen insane wertvollen Content, deine Secrets, Tipps etc.!!! Ich atme gerade deine (und die Videos von Mordio und EsariCharles) ein, da ich endlich unbedingt eigene Tracks und Ideen verwirklichen möchte. Du hilfst mir wirklich sehr sehr weiter 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️ Dabei soll es in Richtung Malinowski, Yuzovskaya, Wolski, Spieth, Tozzi, PRC gehen. Dieses Video hier klingt schon sehr stark nachdem wo die Reise hingehen soll. Da ich noch PhD Student bin, hab ncoh nicht die Mittel für deinen Kurs, wollte aber mal fragen, ob es irgendeine Möglichkeit geben würde, dieses Abletonfile mit den notwendigen samples (Vinyl, Firecracker - oder die Quelle davon) zu einem studentischen Preis zu erwerben? Ich kann das meiste schon nachbauen, aber ein paar Kleinigkeiten fehlen dann doch. Ich könnte dir auch gern eine Mail schicken :) . Das wär echt super super cool! Irgendwann mal hol ich mir auch sicher deinen Kurs 😅. Viele Grüße und mach bitte weiter so wertvollen Content für uns😍😍🙋🏼🙋🏼🤙

      @@dell560 that, unfortunately, has some downsides as well since the left and right channels are summed but not automatically phase aligned. Watch out for one of the upcoming videos on stereo bass, I’ll go into this in more detail. But yes, sometimes that’s a quick hack that works :)
