Red's playing like he's on some Drayano romhack where Sunflora is frequently a powerful Grass/Fire type.
In Red's defense, swapping a grass type into Earthquake is normally a decent strategy. Unfortunately for him, that grass type was Sunflora.

Okay, so regarding the Earthquake thing, that WAS a thing added in Gen 2, however evasion boosting overwrites the Earthquake-Dig interaction apparently.
"every good pokemon we have is paired with a water type" is incredibly accurate in soul links. i've been playing a ultra sun & moon soul link with a friend and almost every pair we have is either water or grass, why tf did gamefreak make so many damn water types
