MH fan since first Gen here. And honestly, I agree. This series has so many incredible and well-designed Monsters, always and **always** amazing music that it’d be hard to pick which one is my favorite. And yet, Shantien’s theme is just… so hard to top. ❤ To the people who composed and played, thank you from the bottom of my heart. It’s so hard for music to touch me that deep really, but Shantien’s is beautiful in so many levels.
I feel its only right for the next reaction is to be Shantien's rival Disufiroa. His theme is probably the polar opposite to Shantien's heavenly and majestic feel, his theme embodies destruction and chaos
Disufiroa's has to be my favourite monster theme in the entire series. I just love the dark, aggressive and heavy aspects of it, especially phase 2 with that build up!
This is probably Monster Hunter's most emotional song. The drums, the melody, the intensity,... it reflects the magnifiscence of Shantien and how we, little hunters, manage to find or a glorious death, or succeed at this glorious hunt. I will always have goosebumps from listening to this overwhelmingly beautiful song.
Shantien! Finally! Edit: For a Frontier exclusive monster, Shantien is really mystical. It flies so high in the skies that only a specific airship can reach it's territories. It is also said to be Disufiroa's rival.

And now that you’ve bitten into that forbidden apple of musical goodness, there’s no way I can walk away without suggesting some other amazing scores. Disufiroa would serve as a good contrast to Shantien seeing as how the two are rivals, there’s Crimson Demon Fatalis, Duremudira, Ultimate White Fatalis, Guanzorumu, Unknown Black Flying Wyvern, Mi Ru, the G Rank Swamp theme, and honestly so much more that I can’t even begin to list off; the soundtrack is just THAT good.

Thank you so much for listening to it! What makes Shantien and its theme to unique is the mysticism to it because of his design. Most Monster Hunter dragons are based on the classic depiction of Western dragons which are huge dectructive fire breathing lizards. Shantien meanwhile is much more based on Eastern dragons who are typically graceful and seen as god like. Like Shenron in Dragon Ball. This is reflected in his fight too. Most elder dragons are incredibly aggressive but Shantien starts the fight as just curious. Using very light attacks at first, only as the fight progresses and he gets more injured does he begin to utilize his destructive powers more. You were absolutely right about that final phase by the way. It is a "We have to put this thing down NOW" moment. The whole fight took place on an airship in the sky. And before the final phase, Shantien has had enough and destroys your airship. Sending you and your hunting party plummeting to the ground. You all find yourselves next to an active volcano where Shantien is waiting, this is his home. And now he is at full strength. You were also right with "You are never going to kill Shantien" because he ends up killing himself with his powers.
Monster hunters themes are so amazing, when I played iceborne and sunbreak there where some phenomenal pieces, right now I'm playing mhgu and my god original valstrax's theme is peak.
I have to suggest Ahtal Ka's theme it is so good and compliments the fight extremely well, and the FINAL PHASE, I won't spoil it here for anybody who doesn't know.
Shantiens 4 themes are the pinnacle of music in the Monster Hunter franchise. The way they built upon each other as the fight progresses, becoming darker and more threatening, until the climactic battle in the volcanic area, where the dread and terror of this enraged elder dragon is replaced with the epic determination of facing and slaying a god is absolutely legendary. Absolute bliss.
Welcome to Frontier music: tension, driving force, and rhythm to keep your nerves on edge and keep you hyperfocused. That’s what these tracks do; without them, you’d lose the tempo of the fight and probably meet a grisly end. Here’s a prime example: Inagami’s theme, or Bamboo Forest(Day). I also recommend the Night version. I also must recommend the Unknown themes, the Flower Field, and the Painted Falls theme as just wonderful tracks.
This theme is special to me. It came on in a playlist while I was asleep, and I dreamt a scene that only fit this song. I dont want to give detail, im working on writing in as a part of a larger story. But it was such a powerful and clear dream, with a narrative. it was insane and so well paced. The pace I owe to this song and how beautifully structured and paced it is.

Shantien's theme has always been one of those themes that feels perfect and sends shiovers down my spine. If you're looking for other longer themes from Frontier, I'd suggest Berserk Laviente (Raviente? Seen it called by both) It definitely has a more aggressive vibe to it but phase 4 just feels so damn good. Violent Laviente is another, phase 2 for it when it builds up.
@@user-lq4ct6dr5m that's violent laviente right? If i recall correctly berserk laviente is an individual which is not starving or hungry which makes it overall stronger than the other Lavientes. Do correct me if i'm wrong though.
Personally I enjoy the theme of shantien's arch nemesis more, however this theme is definitely in second place for me(or third, depending on how I feel about white fatalis)

I would recommend Crimson Fatalis and White Fatalis both have 2 themes, one from main games, and one from Frontier Important to note that Monster Hhunter Frontier's Crimson has 2 phases, so 2 them while White Fatalis doesn't have 2 theme depending on its phases they're all really unique osts in the MH franchise even to these days And I would also add Disuphiroa as many others say in the comment, it's a really great monster with amazing soundstrack They all 3 deserve your reaction
I know main games theme of Crimson doesn't stand a chance against Frontier one, but I cna assure you that when you 13-14, on your 3DS on 4u, and hear this for the first time, it huts as hard as White Fatalis

you perfectly described the battle, specially the part where you say " you wont kill it" cause you really don't. Shantien is legendary Elder Dragon with lighting, water and ice powers. The hunters face Shantien atop the Great Exploration ship, and you fight it as it slowly loses it's temper. When you reach the last phase, he gets so mad he destroys the Great Exploration Ship and sends you flying to a volcano, where you fight on your last stand. And it's also where Shantien reveals his trump card: his ability to control fire. Eventually you drive Shantien so over the edge he summons more and more power, to the point where the elements overcharge and Shantien *fries itself,* ending the hunt
It use thunder and water. Only unlock fire at final phase. Weak to ice and dragon. Dhisufiroa counters him. But shantien kinda evolve to counter dhisufiroa with his fire as well

Ah yes the song of "Monster too angry to die....until it gets too angry it dies". The fight ends as it's loading up some absolutely massive attack to the point it uses up TOO MUCH energy and basically dies of a heart attack. Also as other people have recommended, disufiora's track is amazing especially since its tge only MH theme I can think of that tells the player to "pray".....

For me, it's the MHO monsters, especially Estrellian. Unlike Frontier there isn't even a private version of MHO remaining to play, and Capcom doesn't have the rights to its monsters (given the game was shut down because Capcom refused to renew Tencent's license to use Monster Hunter IP for MHO to shut down competition with MHW to wow shareholders (the same reason COG was liquidated and we lost Frontier and DDO, remember that any publicly traded company is never your friend), meaning it would have had to be rebranded and every monster that was not created by Tencent would have to be removed- meaning Tencent's monsters technically weren't part of the MH IP). Note I actually played MHO during its lifespan, I just miss its monsters and Estrellian is in my top 5 for the entire franchise.
I actually played frontier during it's lifespan and man was it a ride. Sure people that haven't played it call the monsters hidious or not monster hunter like but that is only surface level. what was important is that it was one of the most fun MH experiences you could have. And below the super high end stuff it wasn't even that crazy and oh my god the music, frontier in my humble opinion has the largest amount of banger tracks

shantiens theme starts out more softly because it represents the progression of the monster’s aggression. In the first phase, shantien is ignoring the hunters for half the time, and when he attacks it almost seems like he’s doing so groggily. In the second phase, he summons in weather and then begins to take the fight more seriously, but not nearly as much as the third phase where he summons a thunderstorm to try and take you down. However during the first three phases shantien is still in control of itself; they’re still “sane” if you will and are actually fighting you because they want you to leave, while in the fourth phase shantien goes batshit insane trying to desperately kill you. Part of the theory behind this is that since shantien lives near a frozen dhisufiroa (labeled as one of the strongest or the strongest elder dragons ever, up there with fatalis and alatreon, also you should check out his theme sometimes cause it slaps just like this one), he patrols the area making sure that people don’t come near and awaken it, so the first 2 phases could be considered a warning to leave lest they incur shantien’s wrath

Also, The World's End (Disufiroa's map) is located past the Polar Sea, a region that would only be discovered after the battle against Shantien. So no, it doesn't live near Disufiroa's nest. So much that it lets monsters such as Garuba Daora fly around it's territory.
Sinks your airship, and makes its final stand in a living volcano, and throws everything it has ( and the first compound element, a mix of fire, water, and electric )
I actually recently fought Shantien on the revival servers and honestly? It's so much more hype in-game listening to it with the fight going on. But regardless it's perfectly exemplifies The awe and mystique of the dragon in the first parts, with the later parts showing just how powerful and dangerous the monster is as well as giving the player a sense of him/her being the hero to save the world from Shantien.
Since I haven't seen anyone mention it, and somehow I missed this upload last month, I feel like it's worth talking about the context of this theme. This is one of the most iconic monsters in Frontier, and a monster that, to my understanding, is deeply beloved by basically everyone who ever played that game. So lets get into what this fight is like: Shantien is fought upon an Airship for the first three phases of the fight, a master of water and thunder, bringing a thunderstorm about with only his increased rage. He is the gateway to G-Rank, the highest rank set in the game, and importantly was the big man for the start of what to my knowledge is considered the golden age of MH:F. After his 3rd phase, Shantien attacks your airship, causing it to come crashing down to earth... In an active volcano. Within this volcano, Shantien's dormant fire organ becomes active, causing it to wield the full force of three elements against the player, I believe the first monster to do such a thing. This fight goes from intense to downright terrifying during phase 4. His attacks grow massive, his abilities become extraordinary beyond what you've seen before, and then, when you've finally cut him down to the lowest health he goes, he doesn't just fall down and die. He flies up into the air, releasing his power and preparing for a massive attack... before falling down to the ground, having overloaded himself with his own power. It's not known whether or not this act is an accident, caused by a desperate attempt to push itself further to win, or if it was intentional so the beast could go out on its own terms. Now that we're done with the context, this is one of my favorite themes in the series, and I cannot say the people who claim it as the best MH theme are anything but entirely within reason. As so many other comments have mentioned, Disufiroa would be an extremely fitting next Frontier song, as the two monsters are rivals and among the most powerful dragons in the series, Disufiroa even being part of the extremely limited Dangerous First-Class Monsters category alongside Alatreon and Fatalis. Quick Edit: For anyone who may be reading this comment and hasn't done so yet, please please give the Monster Hunter Frontier Z version of Proof of A Hero a listen, it's another phenomenal song that doesn't really fit into the recommendations here.
I feel like Frontier Crimson Fatalis (both phases) is an absolute must-listen, it embodies the sheer terror and hopelessness from facing down such a malevolent force of nature that descends into madness and chaos in the 2nd phase. Masterpiece imo
Probably lots of comments about this but you should do Disufiora's themes next it is the rival to Shantien and I think youll be very suprised by the dichotomy of these themes. Shantien is a first class dangerous monster that uses water attacks for its first phase but eventually you knock it to the volcanic landsca below and it absorbs the native elements gaining access to fire and thunder elements and the way it dies is by its own hands after absorbing too much energy it basically short circuits and perishes causing the clouds to clear
My favorite theme in all of Monster Hunter, and what I feel is a testament to the OST of Frontier being the best in the series debatably. Just otherworldly and amazing in every sense of the word.
First things first! Go to Dravonista for any and ALL high quality MH music! He deserves it so much as he makes beautiful music mixes! Second of I have been waiting for this!
Shantien and Disufiroa are two monsters i've always yearned to hunt, they are such a visual and auditory spectacle, even when they have downgraded graphics due to MH Frontier being so old. Maybe someday, Capcom already brought back Espinas with a resounding success after all, so the door to the Frontier is open.
I still do prefer Espinas in frontier, he is a proper menace even with his "slow phase". The mobility you have as a hunter in rise gimps him too much imo.
He's not entirely off about Shantien being a "monster that you don't kill," because you technically don't kill him. During his last phase, he mixes his lightning and water element with fire, putting more and more and more strain on itself until it's too much elemental power for it's body to handle (since it's drawing of fire element is only used as a last resort). During it's last attempt at one final blast, it stores up too much energy for it's own body to handle, killing itself. Such an incredible monster
Easily the best composed track in the entire franchise. A few other themes come close, but none quite surpass the Azure Lord of the Heavens. Truly, this music feels like it perfectly encompasses the concept of the divine. Frontier really does hit different.
Hearing the trailer back around 2012/13 made me so sad I couldn't play frontier man. I was so blown away by the music in that game and never got a chance to play it before it was retired.

The Shantien's theme is also the main theme of Frontier's G expansion. There is another track, the actual main theme of the expansion that basically fuses together Proof of a Hero with the Shantien's leitmotiv. Marco you hit the nail on the head yet again. This monster wasn't even discovered by the guild until it was encountered on the large exploration ship, which is the arena you fight Shantien in which is super high in the sky. It is the highest of the high elder dragons which are already a powerful group of monsters and is really close to black dragons in power but can not hope to outmatch them because he is still tied to nature while the black dragons are not natural at all.
would love to watch your reaction to the other "Black Dragons" of Frontier like Black Fatalis, Disufiroa, Crimson Fatalis and my favorite, White Fatalis. Its really interesting to hear the differences of the three Fatalis themes and what they are associated with
The music like pin point that this mitic beast is gorgeous and have a god that resign in the beast that we can't defead and when we are the second phase we strugle to win ahaints it and thats why i felt in love with the music

The whole build up, hit way more when you had experienced the whole fight. last phase is so damn good. mainline mh team need to get back the frontier composer (i think they where two), cause frontier had the best ost of the whole franchise. And yep you never really kill him, he literally kill himself
14:42 Funny that you say that, because, technically, you don't: In the final moments of the battle, Shantien makes one last attempt to smite you with thunder and fire...and fries itself with its own exertions. This creature, which began the battle curious and passive, ended up putting its own life on the line in its efforts to kill you. Not unlike you, the hunter, really... While some of the lore of Shantien may be lost in translation, what we do have seems to paint it as a tragic creature, (or at least that's how I interpret it, grain of salt please). (Sources; Monster Hunter Wiki, the Tweets of BannedLagiacrus, my own speculation.) Long ago, Shantien did battle with the Frozen Seraphim Dragon, Disufiroa, a creature with power on a comparable scale to Alatreon, possibly even Fatalis. Over what they were fighting is hard to say, but there may be a few clues. Disufiroa, not unlike both Alatreon and Safi'jiiva, is said to terraform entire environments with its mere presence. Coupled with the circumstances of your encounter with Shantien, where it blocks your path to what turns out to be Disufiroa's realm, I'm tempted to imagine that they were fighting over territory. Shantien lost the battle with Disufiroa, but escaped with its life, a feat very few monsters, even among the Elder Dragons, have achieved. Now it patrols the skies of its new home, possibly keeping Disufiroa within its line of sight. Staying high in the atmosphere, it seemed Shantien would maintain isolation from mankind. That is, until the guild began making forays into its territory with the newly designed Large Exploration Ship, the same craft present in the background of the video you were looking at. I've always seen Shantien as a "Hero of its own story", even more so than many of the monsters you face. It put its personal safety at risk, possibly to defend its territory, (its home, you could say). As such, I've always interpreted a Battle-Between-Heroes element in both Shantien's fight and phase 4 of its theme. A sort of "You are both creatures of honour, or whatever in nature resembles it: yet your paths have converged such that one of you must die." Or maybe I'm just crazy. 😋 Whatever the case, it's an amazing theme, one of many in the behemoth that is Frontier's soundtrack. I guess I can leave a couple recommendations; Odibatorasu, Crimson Fatalis (Frontier version), White Fatalis (Including the second phase exclusive to Frontier), Disufiroa, Bamboo Forest (Daytime).
Shantien is a really cool fight because he starts the fight slow and weak. He's not using his powers, he's arrogant but as you start dealing damage to him Shantien starts taking the fight more seriously slowly unleashing his powers until phase 3 where he's summoned a total monsoon, he's zipping around the place, he's putting everything he has into it and in G1, the expansion he was introduced the fight ends there with a repel. However Shantien returned in the next expansion G2 with the complete fight with an added phase 4. With Shantien's arrogance shattered he destroys the ship you're riding and you crash onto a volcano. Shantien is a monster with complete control of lightning, water and the storm but Shantien actually has a 4th element, an unused, underdeveloped fire organ and in phase 4 with his arrogance shed and forced to face the fear of god in his eyes he unleashes all his power including this fire organ where he begins unleashing completely unrestrained and uncontrollable attacks, too much for Shantien himself to even handle and Shantien ends up killing himself after 1 last attack he tries to take you with him overloading his body with his sheer power leaving only fragments of a once proud elder dragon who dies without a shadow of this pride left and only a husk of a creature driven to the purest essence of fear.
My personal favorite Frontier theme, it's incredible, The main theme of MHFG totally influenced by this (or maybe the other way around) 2nd is Guanzorumu theme 1, 3rd is UNKNOWN Black Flying Wyvern's theme (both phase.)
Frontier as amazing Music Id recomend Guanzorumu, Disufiora, Duremudira, Keoaruboru, Eruzerion or If YOUR ARE FUCKING NUTS Raviente's themes (bro has 14 of them total among all of his forms)
I would love to see you react to Lissandra's theme from League of Legends. It's one of the best themes in the game IMO. Love the instruments to the singing and the build up gives me chills honestly.
It’s kinda funny to me that one of monster hunter’s most beloved and respected tracks is from a spin-off series Capcom you gotta get frontier’s music department on mainline man
If you're gonna react to more Frontier themes, I recommend the channel "Mon". They've compiled the entire soundtrack in the highest possible quality. A lot of the other channels that also have the soundtrack have a more compressed version of it. "Dravonista" has well-made medleys with good "phase change" points if you need the multi-phase themes.
I’ve seen the battle before, but phase 3 seems more of a rage theme to me just bc of so many powerful and fast notes, probably my favorite phase. But phase 4 feels more like the final stretch where there’s a small glimmer of hope being able to take down this god. Showing not so many vocals but more heroic notes. That’s my thoughts
You should react to the bloodbath diablos theme and ceadeus theme at some point in future videos both are great themes worth checking out. Bloodbath diablos is supposed to be the hardest and strongest of the many deviants by being a pure powerhouse and ceadeus's theme has a majestic and beautiful feeling to it especially at phase 2 of the theme itself
I don't know if this has been asked before but are you willing to react to anime or other media soundtracks. I know for anime at least there are some good soundtracks that really help aid in telling the story or get you hype/excited for a scene. I think you might enjoy some of it as well as having some good insight. Great video by the way.
Hey, how about some electric guitar? Theres surprisingly a lot of themes with them like zinogre astalos old world alatreon disufiora (now that youve heard shantien, you basically have to listen to it, theyre kinda connected if you will) if you really want orchestra rock or even mi ru at the very end of the song basically theres many to choose from, and they’re all great (also no commas was a deliberate choice) (you really should check out old world alatreon, because the impact and difference with the world theme, at least for me, really only works if youve heard the original theme to hear the stark contrast, bell organ guitar, a lot bascially)

Hey Marco. Sorry for bringing an unrelated comment, but I'm thinking this is interesting and I'm not sure you're aware. This week, a new gacha game has been released. It is named Takt Op. Symphony and the characters are based in classical music. The first character we interact is Destiny (Beethoven's 5th), and then we have Twinkle Star (Mozart). The game features cool arrangements for all characters. It was also an anime which aired... somewhere last year, I don't remember exactly when. Hope that is interesting.

This is probably Monster Hunter's most emotional song. The drums, the melody, the intensity,... it reflects the magnifiscence of Shantien and how we, little hunters, manage to find or a glorious death, or succeed at this glorious hunt.
I will always have goosebumps from listening to this overwhelmingly beautiful song.

Edit: For a Frontier exclusive monster, Shantien is really mystical. It flies so high in the skies that only a specific airship can reach it's territories. It is also said to be Disufiroa's rival.
In frontier, Disufiora is stronger than Fatalis, so imagine how strong Shantien is to survive a heated battle against Disu without any serious damage

Thank you so much for listening to it! What makes Shantien and its theme to unique is the mysticism to it because of his design. Most Monster Hunter dragons are based on the classic depiction of Western dragons which are huge dectructive fire breathing lizards. Shantien meanwhile is much more based on Eastern dragons who are typically graceful and seen as god like. Like Shenron in Dragon Ball. This is reflected in his fight too. Most elder dragons are incredibly aggressive but Shantien starts the fight as just curious. Using very light attacks at first, only as the fight progresses and he gets more injured does he begin to utilize his destructive powers more.
You were absolutely right about that final phase by the way. It is a "We have to put this thing down NOW" moment. The whole fight took place on an airship in the sky. And before the final phase, Shantien has had enough and destroys your airship. Sending you and your hunting party plummeting to the ground. You all find yourselves next to an active volcano where Shantien is waiting, this is his home. And now he is at full strength. You were also right with "You are never going to kill Shantien" because he ends up killing himself with his powers.
Monster hunters themes are so amazing, when I played iceborne and sunbreak there where some phenomenal pieces, right now I'm playing mhgu and my god original valstrax's theme is peak.

This is the best soundtrack arrangement I've ever heard; I first heard it 8 years ago and TO THIS DAY it still amazes me... never gets old.
I have to suggest Ahtal Ka's theme it is so good and compliments the fight extremely well, and the FINAL PHASE, I won't spoil it here for anybody who doesn't know.
Shantiens 4 themes are the pinnacle of music in the Monster Hunter franchise. The way they built upon each other as the fight progresses, becoming darker and more threatening, until the climactic battle in the volcanic area, where the dread and terror of this enraged elder dragon is replaced with the epic determination of facing and slaying a god is absolutely legendary. Absolute bliss.
Welcome to Frontier music: tension, driving force, and rhythm to keep your nerves on edge and keep you hyperfocused. That’s what these tracks do; without them, you’d lose the tempo of the fight and probably meet a grisly end. Here’s a prime example: Inagami’s theme, or Bamboo Forest(Day). I also recommend the Night version.
I also must recommend the Unknown themes, the Flower Field, and the Painted Falls theme as just wonderful tracks.
This theme is special to me.
It came on in a playlist while I was asleep, and I dreamt a scene that only fit this song.
I dont want to give detail, im working on writing in as a part of a larger story.
But it was such a powerful and clear dream, with a narrative. it was insane and so well paced. The pace I owe to this song and how beautifully structured and paced it is.

Shantien's theme has always been one of those themes that feels perfect and sends shiovers down my spine. If you're looking for other longer themes from Frontier, I'd suggest Berserk Laviente (Raviente? Seen it called by both) It definitely has a more aggressive vibe to it but phase 4 just feels so damn good. Violent Laviente is another, phase 2 for it when it builds up.

Shantien is legendary Elder Dragon with lighting, water and ice powers. The hunters face Shantien atop the Great Exploration ship, and you fight it as it slowly loses it's temper. When you reach the last phase, he gets so mad he destroys the Great Exploration Ship and sends you flying to a volcano, where you fight on your last stand. And it's also where Shantien reveals his trump card: his ability to control fire. Eventually you drive Shantien so over the edge he summons more and more power, to the point where the elements overcharge and Shantien *fries itself,* ending the hunt

Ah yes the song of "Monster too angry to die....until it gets too angry it dies". The fight ends as it's loading up some absolutely massive attack to the point it uses up TOO MUCH energy and basically dies of a heart attack. Also as other people have recommended, disufiora's track is amazing especially since its tge only MH theme I can think of that tells the player to "pray".....

You can pretty easily now if you have a computer
For me, it's the MHO monsters, especially Estrellian. Unlike Frontier there isn't even a private version of MHO remaining to play, and Capcom doesn't have the rights to its monsters (given the game was shut down because Capcom refused to renew Tencent's license to use Monster Hunter IP for MHO to shut down competition with MHW to wow shareholders (the same reason COG was liquidated and we lost Frontier and DDO, remember that any publicly traded company is never your friend), meaning it would have had to be rebranded and every monster that was not created by Tencent would have to be removed- meaning Tencent's monsters technically weren't part of the MH IP).
Note I actually played MHO during its lifespan, I just miss its monsters and Estrellian is in my top 5 for the entire franchise.
I actually played frontier during it's lifespan and man was it a ride. Sure people that haven't played it call the monsters hidious or not monster hunter like but that is only surface level. what was important is that it was one of the most fun MH experiences you could have. And below the super high end stuff it wasn't even that crazy and oh my god the music, frontier in my humble opinion has the largest amount of banger tracks
I really hope frontier’s style of music returns to the 6th gen of MH. This MMO is really something else. (I’m from the 5th fleet btw)

shantiens theme starts out more softly because it represents the progression of the monster’s aggression. In the first phase, shantien is ignoring the hunters for half the time, and when he attacks it almost seems like he’s doing so groggily. In the second phase, he summons in weather and then begins to take the fight more seriously, but not nearly as much as the third phase where he summons a thunderstorm to try and take you down. However during the first three phases shantien is still in control of itself; they’re still “sane” if you will and are actually fighting you because they want you to leave, while in the fourth phase shantien goes batshit insane trying to desperately kill you. Part of the theory behind this is that since shantien lives near a frozen dhisufiroa (labeled as one of the strongest or the strongest elder dragons ever, up there with fatalis and alatreon, also you should check out his theme sometimes cause it slaps just like this one), he patrols the area making sure that people don’t come near and awaken it, so the first 2 phases could be considered a warning to leave lest they incur shantien’s wrath

Also, The World's End (Disufiroa's map) is located past the Polar Sea, a region that would only be discovered after the battle against Shantien. So no, it doesn't live near Disufiroa's nest. So much that it lets monsters such as Garuba Daora fly around it's territory.

The final phase is the best representation of how pissed off shantien is and I love it

I actually recently fought Shantien on the revival servers and honestly? It's so much more hype in-game listening to it with the fight going on. But regardless it's perfectly exemplifies The awe and mystique of the dragon in the first parts, with the later parts showing just how powerful and dangerous the monster is as well as giving the player a sense of him/her being the hero to save the world from Shantien.
Since I haven't seen anyone mention it, and somehow I missed this upload last month, I feel like it's worth talking about the context of this theme. This is one of the most iconic monsters in Frontier, and a monster that, to my understanding, is deeply beloved by basically everyone who ever played that game. So lets get into what this fight is like:
Shantien is fought upon an Airship for the first three phases of the fight, a master of water and thunder, bringing a thunderstorm about with only his increased rage. He is the gateway to G-Rank, the highest rank set in the game, and importantly was the big man for the start of what to my knowledge is considered the golden age of MH:F. After his 3rd phase, Shantien attacks your airship, causing it to come crashing down to earth... In an active volcano. Within this volcano, Shantien's dormant fire organ becomes active, causing it to wield the full force of three elements against the player, I believe the first monster to do such a thing. This fight goes from intense to downright terrifying during phase 4. His attacks grow massive, his abilities become extraordinary beyond what you've seen before, and then, when you've finally cut him down to the lowest health he goes, he doesn't just fall down and die. He flies up into the air, releasing his power and preparing for a massive attack... before falling down to the ground, having overloaded himself with his own power. It's not known whether or not this act is an accident, caused by a desperate attempt to push itself further to win, or if it was intentional so the beast could go out on its own terms.
Now that we're done with the context, this is one of my favorite themes in the series, and I cannot say the people who claim it as the best MH theme are anything but entirely within reason. As so many other comments have mentioned, Disufiroa would be an extremely fitting next Frontier song, as the two monsters are rivals and among the most powerful dragons in the series, Disufiroa even being part of the extremely limited Dangerous First-Class Monsters category alongside Alatreon and Fatalis.
Quick Edit: For anyone who may be reading this comment and hasn't done so yet, please please give the Monster Hunter Frontier Z version of Proof of A Hero a listen, it's another phenomenal song that doesn't really fit into the recommendations here.

I feel like Frontier Crimson Fatalis (both phases) is an absolute must-listen, it embodies the sheer terror and hopelessness from facing down such a malevolent force of nature that descends into madness and chaos in the 2nd phase. Masterpiece imo
Probably lots of comments about this but you should do Disufiora's themes next it is the rival to Shantien and I think youll be very suprised by the dichotomy of these themes. Shantien is a first class dangerous monster that uses water attacks for its first phase but eventually you knock it to the volcanic landsca below and it absorbs the native elements gaining access to fire and thunder elements and the way it dies is by its own hands after absorbing too much energy it basically short circuits and perishes causing the clouds to clear

Shantien and Disufiroa are two monsters i've always yearned to hunt, they are such a visual and auditory spectacle, even when they have downgraded graphics due to MH Frontier being so old.
Maybe someday, Capcom already brought back Espinas with a resounding success after all, so the door to the Frontier is open.
Bring the whole cast (all the monsters), they're more than welcome to do so.
I still do prefer Espinas in frontier, he is a proper menace even with his "slow phase". The mobility you have as a hunter in rise gimps him too much imo.
He's not entirely off about Shantien being a "monster that you don't kill," because you technically don't kill him. During his last phase, he mixes his lightning and water element with fire, putting more and more and more strain on itself until it's too much elemental power for it's body to handle (since it's drawing of fire element is only used as a last resort). During it's last attempt at one final blast, it stores up too much energy for it's own body to handle, killing itself. Such an incredible monster

Easily the best composed track in the entire franchise. A few other themes come close, but none quite surpass the Azure Lord of the Heavens. Truly, this music feels like it perfectly encompasses the concept of the divine. Frontier really does hit different.

Marco you hit the nail on the head yet again. This monster wasn't even discovered by the guild until it was encountered on the large exploration ship, which is the arena you fight Shantien in which is super high in the sky. It is the highest of the high elder dragons which are already a powerful group of monsters and is really close to black dragons in power but can not hope to outmatch them because he is still tied to nature while the black dragons are not natural at all.
Oh wow, he finally did it. Now it’s time to dive into the rest of MHF’s music isn’t it? Can’t wait till you get to the Fatalis themes. 😳

In the final moments of the battle, Shantien makes one last attempt to smite you with thunder and fire...and fries itself with its own exertions. This creature, which began the battle curious and passive, ended up putting its own life on the line in its efforts to kill you. Not unlike you, the hunter, really...
While some of the lore of Shantien may be lost in translation, what we do have seems to paint it as a tragic creature, (or at least that's how I interpret it, grain of salt please).

Long ago, Shantien did battle with the Frozen Seraphim Dragon, Disufiroa, a creature with power on a comparable scale to Alatreon, possibly even Fatalis. Over what they were fighting is hard to say, but there may be a few clues. Disufiroa, not unlike both Alatreon and Safi'jiiva, is said to terraform entire environments with its mere presence. Coupled with the circumstances of your encounter with Shantien, where it blocks your path to what turns out to be Disufiroa's realm, I'm tempted to imagine that they were fighting over territory.
Shantien lost the battle with Disufiroa, but escaped with its life, a feat very few monsters, even among the Elder Dragons, have achieved. Now it patrols the skies of its new home, possibly keeping Disufiroa within its line of sight. Staying high in the atmosphere, it seemed Shantien would maintain isolation from mankind. That is, until the guild began making forays into its territory with the newly designed Large Exploration Ship, the same craft present in the background of the video you were looking at.
I've always seen Shantien as a "Hero of its own story", even more so than many of the monsters you face. It put its personal safety at risk, possibly to defend its territory, (its home, you could say). As such, I've always interpreted a Battle-Between-Heroes element in both Shantien's fight and phase 4 of its theme. A sort of "You are both creatures of honour, or whatever in nature resembles it: yet your paths have converged such that one of you must die."
Or maybe I'm just crazy. 😋
Whatever the case, it's an amazing theme, one of many in the behemoth that is Frontier's soundtrack. I guess I can leave a couple recommendations;

Shantien is a really cool fight because he starts the fight slow and weak. He's not using his powers, he's arrogant but as you start dealing damage to him Shantien starts taking the fight more seriously slowly unleashing his powers until phase 3 where he's summoned a total monsoon, he's zipping around the place, he's putting everything he has into it and in G1, the expansion he was introduced the fight ends there with a repel.
However Shantien returned in the next expansion G2 with the complete fight with an added phase 4. With Shantien's arrogance shattered he destroys the ship you're riding and you crash onto a volcano. Shantien is a monster with complete control of lightning, water and the storm but Shantien actually has a 4th element, an unused, underdeveloped fire organ and in phase 4 with his arrogance shed and forced to face the fear of god in his eyes he unleashes all his power including this fire organ where he begins unleashing completely unrestrained and uncontrollable attacks, too much for Shantien himself to even handle and Shantien ends up killing himself after 1 last attack he tries to take you with him overloading his body with his sheer power leaving only fragments of a once proud elder dragon who dies without a shadow of this pride left and only a husk of a creature driven to the purest essence of fear.

2nd is Guanzorumu theme 1, 3rd is UNKNOWN Black Flying Wyvern's theme (both phase.)

Id recomend Guanzorumu, Disufiora, Duremudira, Keoaruboru, Eruzerion or If YOUR ARE FUCKING NUTS Raviente's themes (bro has 14 of them total among all of his forms)
The 1st phase sounds almost sounds like Halo theme
I would love to see you react to Lissandra's theme from League of Legends. It's one of the best themes in the game IMO. Love the instruments to the singing and the build up gives me chills honestly.

If you're gonna react to more Frontier themes, I recommend the channel "Mon". They've compiled the entire soundtrack in the highest possible quality. A lot of the other channels that also have the soundtrack have a more compressed version of it. "Dravonista" has well-made medleys with good "phase change" points if you need the multi-phase themes.

I’ve seen the battle before, but phase 3 seems more of a rage theme to me just bc of so many powerful and fast notes, probably my favorite phase. But phase 4 feels more like the final stretch where there’s a small glimmer of hope being able to take down this god. Showing not so many vocals but more heroic notes. That’s my thoughts

Frontiers themes in general go super hard my favorites gotta be forokururu or inugami
You should react to the bloodbath diablos theme and ceadeus theme at some point in future videos both are great themes worth checking out. Bloodbath diablos is supposed to be the hardest and strongest of the many deviants by being a pure powerhouse and ceadeus's theme has a majestic and beautiful feeling to it especially at phase 2 of the theme itself
I don't know if this has been asked before but are you willing to react to anime or other media soundtracks. I know for anime at least there are some good soundtracks that really help aid in telling the story or get you hype/excited for a scene. I think you might enjoy some of it as well as having some good insight. Great video by the way.

Theres surprisingly a lot of themes with them like zinogre astalos old world alatreon disufiora (now that youve heard shantien, you basically have to listen to it, theyre kinda connected if you will) if you really want orchestra rock or even mi ru at the very end of the song
basically theres many to choose from, and they’re all great
(also no commas was a deliberate choice)
(you really should check out old world alatreon, because the impact and difference with the world theme, at least for me, really only works if youve heard the original theme to hear the stark contrast, bell organ guitar, a lot bascially)

Hey Marco. Sorry for bringing an unrelated comment, but I'm thinking this is interesting and I'm not sure you're aware.
This week, a new gacha game has been released. It is named Takt Op. Symphony and the characters are based in classical music. The first character we interact is Destiny (Beethoven's 5th), and then we have Twinkle Star (Mozart). The game features cool arrangements for all characters. It was also an anime which aired... somewhere last year, I don't remember exactly when.
