Yes. At least i used to. But i no longer drink but i think is the best way to let your wine breath and oxidize. Thanks for sharing

I love your video, I learned a lot. I did not know the captain style decanter was least effective. I kept thinking you were saying "nasty wines" and then I realized you were saying "Asti" haha. It actually made me go to the Asti website and explore more! Funny and memorable story, looking forward to watching more videos from Pierre

Thanks Lloyd!!
That is great!
Fantastic
Thanks for this, very informative. Someone once told me that you can use a whisk to quickly add more oxygen to decanted wine, what's your opinion on that?
I don't know, Id have to put on a Blind fold and try the same wine and see if I can taste the difference. Since I'm not much of a wine drinker alcoholic I'm sure I can give an unbiased opinion
Do you recommend pouring the red wines through an aerator when you pour it into the decanter??
Asti!
I have very little wine knowledge, so this is all news to me.
You're on the right track..... one taste at a time!!
Cheers!!
Pierre
Does the porcelain or other pottery materials impart a flavor to the wine? Being a porous material prone to absorption, I imagine some of the previous wines may linger in the vessel walls for instance.
Asti!!
What is is considered a "young" wine? How many years are we talking? I have reds from 2017-2019 and wonder if I should pour them all fast or slowly into the decanter. Thanks
Thanks! Subscribing.
I think it is a little sad that in the US you don’t make the difference between Decanting and Carafing. In France and Germany Decanting only refers to separating the wine from sediments while Carafing refers to pouring the wine into a carafe for breathing and/or serving
Absolutely right 🤝 decanting should be for separating sediments
What you have said, is basically, semantics. N’est pas?
@@winskypinsky its not. A carafe for breathing is shaped differently than a carafe for decanting. If you only drink young wines it doesn’t really matter, but old pinots might be so fragile that they will not be happy if you carafe them. Decantation is used outside of wine as well, so i think it is good to use the right word for the actions you are doing
Hi helpful video. Question, how full should the decanter be, and if theres not room for the entire bottle, what to do with the remainder?
Hey Tony,
Sorry for the delay I just got back from France.
You ask a couple of good questions that are not going to be particularly easy to answer because there are so many shapes and sizes of the decanters. As a point of reference, I'm going to use a typical decanter or pitcher, like the ones used in my video. Additionally, when I talk about a bottle of wine, I'm talking about a 750 mL bottle of wine.
If there's not room in the decanter for the entire bottle then use two separate vessels or the better option is use a bigger vessel like a pitcher that will hold the entire bottle. You want plenty of room left over in the decanter, after pouring the entire bottle in it to allow as much wine surface to be in contact with the air. Your decanter should hold anywhere from a bottle and a half to two bottles of wine.
If your decanter does not hold an entire bottle (plus room to spare) my suggestion is you get/buy a larger decanter.
You can get a decanter from my online store, at many grocery stores, wine shoppes or home good/accessory stores.
I trust this was helpful.
Cheers!!!
Pierre
