    • @midknightlily
      @midknightlily Před rokem +2

@@kimberlyward5963 yeah, I don't think the quiz is accurate. I think the deciding factor was the frequency of washing one's hair. The answer to that could have nothing to do with hair type. I could just be depressed and not taking care of my personal hygiene. I could also have been frequently swimming or sweating and need to wash my hair more.

I was a hairdresser all thru the 80s and 90s and into the 2000s. I did not do to my hair what the other girls were doing. The dying, flattening,, burning, frying to get those big hair styles. I've always washed my hair daily, probably since I was 15, and that was ummm like A LONG TIME AGO ( back in 85 :) and my hair is healthy. Menopause has completely changed my hair from straight to curly on the right side, but wavy on the left lol. If I don't start from scratch with a wash everyday, then I look like I just rolled outt bed! I usually let it air dry now since it has texture to it, but, I just can't go a fee days without a wash, my hair gets so dry looking, I don't produce any oils on my scalp, so it never gets greasy!

Hi, Chris! It was exactly a year ago today I started with your recommended haircare products. I'm 55 years old so I'm not trying to grow my hair long and lush like most of your models, I just wanted my hair back. I had a gastric bypass five years ago and lost about two-thirds my hair following that surgery. It was coming back but very, very, very slowly... I have been religious about your products and routine for the past 12 months and my hair today is actually prettier, thicker, and healthier than it has ever been, and I love it and you! Thank you!! I have dark blonde hair that is fine and wavy when I let it air dry or use a diffuser but usually blow dry it straight. I keep cutting it shorter as I'm letting the colored ends slowly get cut away. Soon I'll start letting the virgin hair grow again but now I see the importance of taking better care of that virgin hair in order to have healthy hair a year from now. Thank you so much. You may have just saved my hair. I color my hair every month to cover gray and use a flat iron almost daily to tame the frizz. I have tried the best shampoos, conditioner, hair masks, heat protectant etc. to get my hair healthy. I even started alternating between Olaplex 3, K18, Living Proof Triple Bond Complex and still my hair would be so frizzy the next day that I would pull out the flat iron to try and fix it which starts the whole cycle all over again. The only thing I haven’t tried is a leave-in conditioner.
I go about 2-3 days between washes. The last 2 times I washed my hair I used a leave in conditioner and my hair looked awesome. There was still a few hairs sticking up but for the most part my hair was so shiny and soft. I also tried your advice of not using heat tools as often and I actually went 2 days without and my hair still looked good. This is the best advice ever! For those of you looking to make your hair healthy again start by watching all of Chris’ videos and following his recommendation and you will never look back.

Following this has been a game changer for me from the first wash. I’ve long medium/thick blonde highlighted hair and was already using Moroccanoil shampoo & conditioner and getting about 3 days between washes. My hair was ‘okaaay’ but not great, with quite a bit of breakage that was stopping my hair from getting any longer. But since following your instructions for ‘how’ to shampoo and adding in leave in conditioner & oil, my hair is TRANSFORMED! Seriously! I now get minimum 4 to 5 days between washes and it just looks and feels sooooo much healthier and shinier. I’m in the UK and wasn’t able to source your recommended leave in conditioner so I’m using Redken’s one which also seems to do the job. I’m now hooked to your channel and can’t wait to see my new healthier hair translate into longer locks. Thanks so much @blowoutprofessor

Hey Darby! Great question. Try to wet your hair with normal tap water before you get in the pool/ocean to limit the amount your hair absorbs. Also keep your normal hair washing schedule. Only wash with shampoo when your hair is only. If your hair is only dirty from the pool then co-wash (wash using conditioner) instead. Using shampoo every time you swim will make your hair dry 👍

So I’m a cosmetology student and I’ll say let your stylist handle it. Gray hair tends to be harder to color since it can be more coarse and resistant to color. If you use box dye or something that isn’t strong enough, you’ll end up with potential patchiness or wasted time and money.
Just make sure you continue using high quality products on your hair, and your stylist will help you with the color. Best of luck!

@@ajw.5173 I'm not an expert by any means, but I have dry hair (or rather tendency to dry hair, because that's how they would be if I wouldn't put anything on them and left them all to themselves, they're fine and very light a delicate, so just easily get dry), I also have scalp that gets oily quick and prone to folliculitis and itching.
      So what I've found out:
      (1) so, and it was long before it became a fad, is to use mild shampoo, no SLS and similar harsh detergents.
Also, not only mild, but also light (that is not packed with many moisturing and oily stuff, just mild and light and simple - and difficult to find).
That means I can't go too long between the washes as BP would suggest, but my demanding scalp's health is more important to me than my hair won't be as perfect. Also if I don't wash too long (eg 1x week would be to long for me), the natural oil build up would also cause scalp breakouts and itching (and that's regardless of shampoo used, just my own oils seem to irritate and inflame skin as well).
But each to their own, find out what type of detergent can you pull off and what wash frequency.
In my experience, the more sensitive scalp, the milder and lighter formula.
      (2) the rule: the kind of shampoo is chosen for the scalp, the conditioner is chosen based on the hair needs. So I don't even ever use the shampoo and conditioner from the same line, or even from the same brand. For example, if I use conditioner for fine hair, doesn't mean I need to use the same shampoo type.
      (3) I like using oil on the ends, but oily products use well when there's enough moisture first, because oil works by keeping the moisture in, otherwise it dries the hair up.
      (4) since I'm using mild shampoos, I avoid products with silicone, because they're harder to wash off (also, they tend to cause me acne but it's another story). Otherwise silicones are good, but it's similar as with oils, the hair needs moisture first, and silicones give a nice finish. Just to know, if you use them, you can't just use the mildest shampoo, because that will cause buildup.
I'm sorry I'm not giving a particular brands, I also live in Europe so probably these products wouldn't be available. I use now the so-called 'ecological' shampoo, that has a light and mild formula. As for the rest, I try various brands, but it's of lesser importance.
First thing in my experience,is to get your scalp under control. Irritated scalp will also be getting greasy sooner. (Just like with the face, ifone has oily/acne-prone face it's actually a mistake to use many products 'for oily skin's allegedly, because they dry the skin out,and it compensates becoming more oily and irritated. Same with the scalp. Too harsh shampoos for 'oily hair's may actually exacerbate the problem.)
Basically, treat the scalp and the hair on the length separately, they're two different issues, two different needs. Different products for each, different lines, different brands, etc.
Hope anything I wrote was helpful, even without any specific brands.

I took your quiz. I do have fine hair and it is wavy. It never gets oily tho. Do you still recommend the Redken Shampoo? Oh, I should tell you I’m 61 and I have been coloring my gray hair my natural dark blonde with foiled highlights. During covid of course I couldn’t get it done and the gray started growing out. Then I had it colored a few more times. It always looks great for a couple weeks, but my hair seems to grow fast and the gray starts showing. Now it’s been 8 months since I’ve had it colored. I’m so over needing to get it colored every 3 weeks. Of course, I don’t feel like this is healthy for my fine hair. So it’s a mix of light gray and almost a charcoal gray and my natural very dark blonde underneath in the back. But the color just looks flat. Not shiny and healthy. I usually let it air dry and occasionally diffuse it.
You don’t mention any styling products. So I’m kind of lost. I really want shiny, large clumps of curls, but all I get is fine clumps with the beach wave look.
    1. Is the Redken Shampoo & Conditioner appropriate for me?
    2. Should I use some kind of styling product?
I used to used the Moroccan shampoo, conditioner, intense curl cream, and hairspray. It got hard to find for quite awhile even from my stylist. Since then I’ve jumped around and my stylist quit carrying the Moroccan line. For awhile a used the Young Living line of natural shampoo and conditioner, but feel like even the moisturizing formula leaves my hair dry feeling. Currently I’m using Ouidad products. I’ve tried quite a few of them, but no miracles so far.
    What do you suggest?

I use dry shampoo on clean hair. After your routine and your hair is dry, spray dry shampoo on your clean hair. (Roots) I use dry shampoo the next day too until I wash again.
Also use different hairstyles to go longer as you're using dry shampoo. ( Clips, pony tail, buns etc) you can do it!
When you shower, use a shower cap. Good luck!

I already do all 3 of these every wash :( My hair is still dry and damaged. I use Olaplex 4 and 5 as well

Hey Christine! Did you maybe go blonde over very dark hair? That can cause a lot of damage to the hair shaft which makes it hard to retain water. I'd consider using Olaplex 3 and a mask if you're dealing with a lot of damage 👍

Hello! I've never considered using a leave in conditioner because I was already using a regular conditioner and I thought that was enough, but after watching the explanation in this video I will add this to my routine. My question is: what is then the purpose of using a regular conditioner if you're going to use a leave in conditioner a minute later? Could someone please explain?

    • @eugenius5019
      @eugenius5019 Před rokem +7

regular conditioner adds moisture, but as your hair dries, the moisture evaporates, so you use leave in conditioner to lock in the moisture that the regular conditioner adds

@@eugenius5019 hmm, ok, so then I guess that a leave in conditioner does not provide enough moisture on its own, and that's why the regular conditioner is necessary as a previous step, am I right?

This is THE perfect question! I was wondering the same thing. It seems a bit overkill to use a conditioner that's only temporary, when you can just use the leave-in and be done with it. But I will try this way and the products to see how it goes. 😃😃😃

Hi Chris-I can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge. I have been growing my hair out after chemo and using your advice my hair is now well below my shoulders! The only issue that I have is that the pureology leave in seems to make me a little allergic. I get itchy. Do you have an alternative leave-in conditioner for someone like me? I don't see an alternative recommendation on your website. Again-Thanks so much if I lived in FL I would come to your salon to Thank you in person! 💜🙏💜
