The Gremlin Grinder is one of my favorite vintage Hot Wheels castings. Today I did some custom paint, homemade decals, and put some gnarly drag slicks on this beast to finish it off proper like.

You want sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) as a substrate for 'filler' type cyanoacrylate repairs. I was using this in the late '70s, before the 'Net came along and blabbed all my car resto secrets. LOL
Oh, and thx for mentioning the sponge-pad grit (1500). Not sure what I have to donate, but I'll look. AC
Oh, and try to avoid the CA + NaHCO3 fumes. Not good.
Nice vid, I personally find that these larger size white pearls work better over a dark base so black or dark blue maybe you can find another casting of this model and do the base in black and go over with the same pearl/flake mix?
Well Jimmy, as an AMC/Mopar fan, I'd say you need some more of those! Keep that box open!
My neighbor used to have a Gremlin, one of those weird childhood memories you never forget for some reason ;)

I loved this one!
I had a white '76 Gremlin with the "big 6." A 4.2 litre (258cid) motor with three speed automatic. It was the next best model to the Gremlin X having cloth seats, rear window defogger, plush carpeting, floor console shift and all in a medium blue that complimented the white exterior.

Stick a pin through your axle tubes to make them align better and keep them straight.

Casting reminds me of the Roadkill Gremmy with the caddillac 500 in it. cuz this one's a gremlin with a massive motor. You made it look cool, very 70s
That is probably my favorite one yet. The paint looks incredible! The decals were on point. I liked the way you applied the glue to the tubes too. Keep it up. I don't miss an episode.

Man that's sick love it. I still have my high school car it a 74 Gremlin. But now it has a Chevy 450 hp LT1 in it. It's freaking insane how fast it is. Keep up the good work bud.

Sweet! I absolutely love it. Gremlins have a special place in my heart. Bought my first one when I was 14 and next year marks the 40th anniversary of that purchase. Over the years I have had 5. After watching this I now have a new goal to find 5 of the Gremlin Grinders and pay homage to them. Your build brought back memories from when the Grinders came out. Again I can't say enough about how bad ass your builds are and thank you for reigniting the fire in me to build one last Gremlin (which I'll drag my 3 boys into the experience)
There was a guy in Vocational school who had a Gremlin. He stuffed a 440 out of an old Plymouth in it wit a 727 Torqueflite Transmission. We called it the Grimline.
Tried to talk my hubby into doing the same thing. He said it was a crazy idea, so instead I stuffed a stroker 340 into a Jeep CJ7. When asked why, I'd always just say, "Go fast on dirt."

I've used microscale liquid decal film and sprayed it on dry printed decals with the air brush or paint brush. It makes them tough to mess up and more durable.
Another great piece. For someone who states you are kind of a newby to this custom stuff and painting, your shit looks better than most others on CZcams. Can't wait for the next one.

I have a cool idea for you. Take an absolute junk heap of a car and fully restore half of it. Like take that liquid mask and paint off half of everything and restore the other half. I think it would make a great project!
IMHO that is the coolest car that I've seen so far. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else copied that. Superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a suggestion, when you glued the tubes to the chassis, maybe next time you could take a long axle or wire of the same size to hold the tubes straight while they set 👍
When trying too show off glitter or candy paints. I think a pinpoint light works the best. The one source of light gives a better reflection than flood lighting.

That’s a sweet restor, I help build a gremlin hot rod when I was younger, it had a small 800hp motor, built up 400 turbo tranny with stall converter, full cage, 5 point seats, chopped down Z linked ford 9” rear axel, mustang 2 front end with adjustable coil overs, munster street legal meats in the back and pizza cutters up front, drag bars of course. With all the mods that car was still street legal (barely) and yes that thing was scary af to launch off the line and the power to weight ratio was crazy.

This is what I've been waiting for. I had this in green and chrome as a kid and as an adult, it is my dream to buy a Gremlin and restore it and have it painted florescent green. Thanks for posting this.

This car was made same year as I was born lol damn I am old. You do great work, and love watching you restore these old cars I use to play with. I never had the Gremlin although.

gremlin has always had bit of a rebellious shape … nice job on the mod.
Nice work mate. I also seen people use the center punch to crimp the axels in place in stead of glue. 👍🏻

Baking soda and baking powder is the same thing, great little model, wasnt keen on the colour at first but it grew on me.

Jimmy, here's a tip to save limeout. Use a smaller rectangular container, like a parts cabinet drawer. You won't use as much and you'll get more depth for your cars.
The Gremlin is sweet. Your tips on the Axle tubes genius! As well as the apoxy in your last video. I thank you. For your tips. Now if I can ever get the time. To put those tips to use.

Keep an eye on that superglue tube when you have the cap off of it. You were holding the bottle right above your work. I realize you have to squeeze a tube for the glue to come out, but you just never know. Takes one drop to screw it up. Take the car out in the sunlight and show it. Some idle really make it pop. You are a master of the paint, sir. You might want to put a 1A skylight filter on the lens to protect it from the acid etc.
