I have 2 X-Box Controllers -- that the Right Thumb joy stick was drifting bad --- go around in a circle - let it go and it would move slowly to the upper right way past the center.... I did just this ... and BOOM!!!!! ---- it worked !!!!! YOU'RE A GENIUS !!!! I used a TR9 for the screws and a 2.0 Flat to do the job !!!

It actually works! I also have heavy drifting on the left thumb stick and was deciding to buy a replacement kit for the stick and DIY soldering it all the way but this fix saved me from spending a few bucks! Thank you for this video!
That's not really a fix. You're just delaying the inevitable. For those who don't know...drift occurs when the mechanism inside the stick gradually wears out. Inside is a "grinding wheel" which grinds against a (I think it was carbon) carbon film and this wears out. This can't be prevented. Also, these flex pcbs do not really help because the drift is not an error on the part of the software (unless you have set the deadzone wrong i would say). With conventional sticks there is only one "real" fix, namely to remove the stick and solder in a new one. And then there are sticks with hall effect sensors. These work with magnets and therefore have no abrasion. So a drift is impossible with these sticks. However, these must be adjusted with a small pcb.

If this was a brand new controller and known it was already open by the original owner it ashamed how this new xbox controller had a drift stick issue thank God there's a lawsuit because of this problem and I have 3 controllers I have drift stick ! Xbox need to do better with there products being broken !

Bro, he uses one which the pieces can be changed, as you must know screwdriver have different shapes depending on the screw, the one to open the controller is called Torx and the size is T8. You can google it. Actually I had to buy a set today to do this + keep the rest for future stuff, but you could also buy a single screwdriver with the Torx edge already. If you got a question let me know. I was wondering the same 1 day before.

You have to open ur controller more and those cyan pieces open up more. Take out the silver piece inside it. The get a q tip and dip it in isopropyl alcohol and clean. Also lightly clean the silver piece doing the same. Put it back and then test.
Oh yeah sorry it depends which way ur controllers drifting. If it's drifting to the right or left. You have do the other cyan piece instead of the one shown on the video.
This is a joke and a gambling thing.... it can work or not.... lets say is 50/50. Its not a serious way to fix stick drift. And if, after several hours of playing it just dont fix the drift and you have worst problems. As a tip: invest in a compatible controller with hall-effect-sensors and you can play for years without any problems. Potencial-meter sticks are in 80 percent NOT accurate 😉
there's no fixing this garbage, they use cheap trash materials for the stick and it wears out and causes stick drift inevitably , i'm done with xbox controllers i'm going back to logitech, i literally threw my series x controller in the dumpster and ordered 2 logitech controllers.

Update: lasted about two days after the drift came back worse than before. Had to buy a new pot and replace it.
