This is a song about losing the lust and drive to do anything because you got comfortable in life. They are calling themselves out on that because this was at a time where they finally had enough success to feel comfortable.

I fucking love this song so much. They wrote it at a time when Rammstein was on fire (pun intended). They had everything they could ever want, and all they wanted to do was just get back to their beginning and play music for the sake of playing music. Everything else was excess that was literally weighing them down.
I think there’s an important allegory that Till is expressing underneath that though. Depression can leave you frozen and uninterested in living. It doesn’t matter what, if any wealth you accumulate, depression can and will make it all worthless and irrelevant in your mind.
Can’t wait for the next Rammstein reaction! I vote Adieu!
    Cheers

"big animals" is the right translation. It is a german phrase and means people with much power as the government for example.

"Keine Lust" is a song by the German Neue Deutsche Härte band Rammstein. Translated from German, "Keine Lust" means "No Desire" or "No Pleasure" in English. The lyrics of the song express a sense of weariness, disinterest, or lack of enthusiasm. The singer conveys a feeling of being tired or uninterested in various aspects of life. Rammstein's music often explores a range of emotions, and "Keine Lust" reflects a theme of disillusionment or fatigue. The interpretation of the song's meaning may vary based on individual perspectives.

ultimately, it's a song about loosing self respect to the point of self deprivation. The english translation "I don't feel like..." doesn't really match that.

Please watch the making of video for “Keine Lust”. The band and director talk about the song and the idea for the video. Interesting to see them putting on their fat suits and getting their makeup done. Of course it's very funny, the boys have a lot of fun making their videos. I'm really looking forward to ADIEU. But “ICH WILL” is also great. As a ballad I recommend "OHNE DICH"

    Hello there.
    The line:
'I would feel like with big animals' isn't translated correctly (or should I say over correctly). It is Idiom and would be best translated to 'big shots'.
Now the song is a criticism on our overfed western society. Overfed in a literal way and with products, entertainment, etc.
    With love Germany ❤🤘🏻

  • @BerndFunken
    @BerndFunken Před 4 měsíci +4

The translation was made by someone who obviously doesn't understand the German language very well. He sings that he is laying in the snow and later he sings that he counts the flies and why are there flies around him that he could count? Because he is frigid? Seriously? That makes no sense, no matter what language you speak. "Being cold" has several meanings in German. It could mean that he is simply freezing or it could mean that he is frigid. But the most common meaning of "he is cold" is "he is dead" and if you exchange the word "frigid" with "dead" then suddenly the whole text makes sense. Someone who is laying dead in the snow for a long time has a lot of flies around him that he theoretically could count if he could still count anything.
Imagine a fat man laying dead in the snow and his soul is floating above him watching the scene (this way he can "see"). If you have this picture in mind then suddenly the whole text from the first to the last line makes sense.

For your info, the "big animals" is not a mistranslation. He actually says that. Even as a German native speaker, I don't really know what he means by "vom Schnee gehen", literally translated to "going from the snow". I've read that it may be a metaphor for dying, but I doubt that. As "snow" is a slang for "cocaine" in German, it might mean "letting go of cocaine" but that is highly speculative.

Yes, "big animals" is the literal translation. But Rammstein are working a lot with double meanings and wordplay. "Big animals" usually means "big shots". So I'm 99,9 % sure that he's saying "I would like to take on the big shots, but don't feel like risking it"

In German, "ich hab' keine Lust" is a common expression that means "I don't feel like (doing something)", but the word "Lust" can also have the same meaning as in English, "lust", so it's a play on words, as they very often do with their lyrics: "I don't feel like it", but also "I don't have any lust". I think they made this video after having issued nothing for some time, and they wanted to pretend that they all had become fat (except Flake, the keyboard player) from doing nothing (other than eating a lot of good food). But the official videos have close captions in English, automatically generated, but they're better than most translations I've seen people read online (I'll check if I can improve those, I already did for a French site). For instance, "I would have lust (to do it) with big animals, but I don't feel like trying". Please check out "Rosenrot" if you haven't.

The big animals refers really to A list celebrities rather than actual animals. He doesn't want to risk it because of the subsequent publicity which he's bored with anyway. When he says he's cold, it's a reference to feeling cold or dead inside, he has no desire, no interest in anything because he's been there, done , bought it. Flake, the keyboardist, is so disinterested in everything that he doesn't want to eat or walk even. The concept for the video actually came from Christoph Schneider ( my hero!!) who is the drummer. He had hoped that this would be the first single from the album Reise Reise and that the fans would be shocked by the band's appearance😂😂

"Keine Lust" also has such a great double meaning again, as you know from English, it can mean lust/desire (keine Lust = No Lust/Desire), but also a drive to do something(I want to do xxx - ich habe Lust auf xxx)...and they play with that again here... he's singing about sexual things (don't want to have s** today = keine Lust in a sexual way) as well as a about being fed up with everything (you want to do whatever today? - No thanks (=keine Lust) kinda way)

"Big animals" colloquially means "big shots" in German. So he's not singing about bestiality here, but he's saying that he would like to "take on the big shots" but doesn't want to risk it.

"Big animals" is correctly translated. But in German it also refers to "people with power", humans that are bigger than yourself, the upper class. Which Rammstein is.
I don't feel that "I don't feel it" is a good translation. It's rather "I am tired of..."
