What food do people eat in Yakutia, Siberia. We headed out in to Yakutsk, Russia, the coldest city on Planet Earth, with our local friend Maria to find out more about Yakut (Sakha) cuisine and culture. This region is almost completely covered in Permafrost, meaning growing staple crops here is near on impossible (due to the fact the soil is basically ice). Therefore the food here in the World's coldest region is mainly based on meat and dairy, with few fruits or vegetables. However the ecology of Yakutia is incredible meaning the quality of the products is so high, you can eat nearly everything raw and people here do exactly that, from raw fish, to every part of the meat - including liver and intestine! Life in this beautiful region of the world may seem difficult, but the locals love it and love their cuisine alike, let's explore it!

Would you try these Sakha delicacies? 😋❤️
Yes. I would love to visit.
I would also try everything as well
@@carole2952 Якутия по долгожителям на втором месте после Кавказа ,это говорит о том что местная еда очень качественая.
You can meditate on the beautiful pictures while you starve to death..
The Masterworks link doesn't give you priority. I was placed 3000+ in the que for membership, pretty much the same as when I registered without the link
I sent my former boss there about 10 years ago. He was (and still is, presumably) German, he said he wanted to go somewhere cold and with a banya, so i googled this place, and off he went. He came back with pneumonia, but said he loved it.
I'm totally impressed with Matt's Russian language level. Seems like he's getting so much better with his each new visit of Russia. Very nice video, thank you.
It impresses me when someone learns any language. They say it gets easier as you learn a 3rd or 4th. I wish to move to Mexico and I’d love to speak the native tongue
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it 🥰❤️
@@lisamillerbuchert9447 is there options to learn native language(s) of mexico? 🤓 sounds like a hard nut to crack
@@bolek-trolek not sure I know what you mean. I’m not insulting anyone. All languages that aren’t your native tongue sound interesting along with our different accents. In the US I like the southern accent the most it sounds so sweet. People like mine but it’s to similar to NY loud and sounds like slang but oh well it is what it is
@@lisamillerbuchert9447 why the defence mode here? 🤔
So fascinating! Unlike any cuisine I've ever seen. The idea of eating frozen, raw food didn't seem appealing to me initially, but after listening to you describe your experiences eating it, I would now be delighted to try it.
try frozen atlantic salmon ! it will blow your mind ! i usually buy whole frozen fish, cut it in steaks with big knife while it's still hard . then pack it individually and throw back in freezer...and if you whant to eat - just get it out , peal the skin , whait 10 min for it to soften and chop it in 1 mm slices...and you also need 1 to 1 salt and black pepper micture. enjoy !
@@snejok888 Hi, bro XD btw, nice taste :)
I'm not sure about having a dish on the table that smelt like an abattoir, but l would try the fish, tongue and of course the icecream!
Your video production has become so professional. ❤ You two look so happy there. You’re such great global citizens. Thanks for sharing such a lovely experience!
Thank you so much Cindy! Really appreciate it! 🥰❤
I'm impressed how respectful towards food and customs you were in comparison to Eli From Russia channel, who, I believe, also went to the same restaurant with the same girl Maria. She complained about half of the dishes and made faces.
We are so used to the fact that our country is so diverse that only a view from the outside allows us to appreciate it. Thank you for the video!
You guys are so respectful and open. I'm not Yakuktian but I appreciate that.
Watching you 2 is making me happy, seeing how happy Matt is if Julia is enjoying food is out of this world.
Watching you eat......big eyes.....then bigger smile.....then lost for words. Wow, that was awesome. Who would have thought such a remote and desolate place could be so interesting. Thanks for taking me along❤
Thank you so much Ross 🙏🏼❤️
I am so very grateful I live in a place where I can grow food for myself as I could not eat most of what is on your table. Blessings to you both!
If you were hungry enough, you'd eat it lol
Amazing place guys and Julia, you should really consider becoming a food blogger!! I could nearly taste the various dishes by just watching your reactions and listening to your detailed mouth watering tasty explanations, just wow!!😍😋
I think they are already food bloggers!!
Wow this was such an incredible video and intro to this cuisine! Every dish is so different from anything I've ever seen before and I loved seeing how much you two enjoyed it.
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it! ❤❤❤
Nothing like good food in a cold climate, takes the edge off the hardship 🤗🤗🐶👍
For sure! 🥶😀
Loved seeing you try all those interesting foods!
I just love "eating" with you guys. Between the video and your descriptions, I can almost taste everything right here.
Except I am a little warmer.
Good morning guys and greetings from Hamburg.
Very interesting again. I'm a very picky person when it comes to food, but the way you have us being part of your experience eating those dishes was absolutely great, delicious and yummy.
Even I would like to try it.😉
Thank you and stay safe and warm.
😎⚓
I just love the way you are talking about food! When I listen to you, I really want to try this cuisine.
Welcome Yakutia
Matt, you have such an amazing acceptance of other cultures. You accept everything as it comes without judgments or any preconceived expectations. Good luck to you friend.
Firstly , what a magnificent restaurant, wow , and you guys are very brave trying the different foods , you must have strong stomachs ...😊😊😍
Thank you so much Chris, it is honestly all safe, the meat and fish are so clean!! 🥰❤️
For a Russian hostess, there is no greater shame than to feed bad food! Guests are always served the best!
What an amazing experience, thank you for sharing it with us. I was recently on a binge watching Kiun B videos and I'm truly fascinated by their lifestyles.
So glad you enjoyed it!! 🥰❤️
So damn interesting what people over six thousand km east eat and how they live or better say survive. The food looked very delicious, especially in the first place. And Maria seems like a nice and humble person
Best food vlog ever! Everything you guys do is just brilliant 👏
Thank you so much Steven! Really appreciate it 🥰❤️
Thank you so much for the insight into Yakutian Cuisine . It looks very tasty. The soup looked very interesting. We missed it. What were the ingredients in it? We will attempt to make it.
What a fascinating look at a culture that many people know little about. As Harriet and I were watching this video , we were enjoying a bowl of N.E. clam chowder. Another stunning video.
Taking us to places less traveled . You guys are truly amazing. Sending you much love and affection🙏❤🙏 from Richmond, Va. Harriet, Jim and Yuki
Thank you so much guys! Really appreciate it! The soup ingredients were all the innards with cream, pepper, salt, spring onion and some other things 😅 Hope you are well, lots of love to you ❤️🙏🏼
That was an amazing video so beautifully put together and wow....Yakut cuisine ! .....I am amazed, really not what I expected to see ...Thank you Matt and Julia xx
Thank you so much John! Really appreciate it!! 🙏🏼❤️
Another awesome video 😊
Julia and Matt
With much 💝
Thank you so much Doris!! ❤️🙏🏼
Cheers, I'd starve there, just the spring onions/wild onion, red onion and rolls to me look edible!
Watching these videos just break my hart. Eastern Europe/Asia (Eurasia) is such a beautiful place, and it's so sad we just can't find common ground and just respect each other's culture. I hope we can very quickly resolve all of this mess around a table and just go back to the way things were.
You get to eat the most interesting, delicious food wherever you go...YUM! Matt and Julia, all the best!
Thank you so much!!! 🙏🏼❤️

I could watch and listen to you describe and review foods all day.
Wish we could sit and eat all day too, To be fair 😅❤️
Thanks 4sharing the real life of Yakuthia Siberia and the kind of food they have. Nice video and great narration 👍🚶
Wow,
Greetings from old neighbours from number 5, when you lived in UK
Your vid popped out to us!!!
You guys are amazing!!!!!
Great seeing you’re enjoying yourselves!!!!
Old the Best!!!!
This is so random! Hi guys!! 🥰🙏🏼
Hope you are well!
All the best!! ❤️
@@MattandJulia All good here, keep doing what you love guys !!!!
Amazing ❤️❤️❤️
So interesting that a place that is so frigid has so many foods that served cold or frozen. I would expect a very cold place to be just the opposite to have hot foods to help warm you up.
My opinion is that centuries ago, it took a lot of effort and time to cook a hot meal in such conditions, and besides, I think firewood was also limited. The surrounding nature itself prompted the Yakuts how to eat, and over time it simply became a national culture
Thak you for this video, beautiful experience, big hug 🤗
Great video guys and Matts face eating was it the sausage was priceless, thanks again
Thank you so much!! ❤️🙏🏼
Really really enjoyed this video! Mind blowing to see such beautiful restaurants in icy cold Yakutia. I so wish that I could taste everything together with you, really unique cuisine. I guess it is no surprise to find several frozen dishes amongst the offerings in the coldest city... 😉😁 Thanks so much for sharing and lots of love! ❤️❤️
Welcome Yakutia
Excellent video. I would try it all.
Thank you so much for your nice work. Stay longer there and make more videos please. Thank you both
What an intrigue these dishes give me! I can't imagine the taste of that raw and frozen fish, fish icecream?? ...but according Julia's face must be delicious. I cook beef tongue regularly but we eat it cold, in thin slices with vinaigrette. I'm curious how they serve it there. Matt's face as he says... "The texture is interesting.." jaja ! Julia taste the same dish??
Apparently Sakha's kitchen is hell for vegans!! Maria is the sommelier, no? Have you tried the wines from there?
Thanks for another lovely video, see you in the next !! by by from Buenos Aires
There is only cloudberry from the berries, there is no more plant food. A vegan would not have survived there, he would have starved to death. (Supermarkets, of course, have everything, even pineapples. I am writing about authentic food).
I am so surprised that a lot of the dishes are frozen or cold! I give you both a lot of credit - but sure I’d be able to eat some if it! 🤣 However I do appreciate you showing us how other countries eat! So interesting ! I also appreciate your honesty ❤ love you guys
Thank you so much Jo Ann! Really appreciate it 🥰❤️
Well you guys will try anything 😊 I don’t think I could try Half what you guys do ! Thanks for being our eyes and ears in these fantastic locations !
Another great video guys....
Your channel was one of CZcamss recommendations. I so far have watched a couples and subscribed- I love everything you have upload. You guys are amazing. I am not sure I would want to try the food- all kudos to you guys. Thanks for taking us along on your journey ❤
Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts! ❤️ your words truly mean the world to us!
Welcome to our channel 🤗
i wanted to try all of this tasty yummies. Very gentle and kind video. The way you guys talk, is absolutley amazing.
Great video. Thank you both ! I would enjoy all these foods because a French we eat a lot of offal like liver, kidney, tripes and even brains (of course cooked)as well as horse meat as after all steak tartare is uncooked horse meat, with seasoning. Thanks for taking us along with you. You look like you are having a great time. Looking forward to your next video. Jos
Always in gratitude showing us places We have not visited , or probably cant , but if given the opportunity , for sure will take the prioroty list like Yakutia.
Really impressed with your open attitude to food . TBH I would not be as adventurous and probably miss out on good experiences 😘
Kudos to both of you for trying these unusual (to Westerners) and unique foods. I always enjoy knowing that you will try almost anything at least once. Kids should be brought up this way. If they don't like it they don't have to eat it again but at least they should try it once. Take care, stay warm and have a pleasant and rewarding weekend. 🫂❤️🙏🌎🕊
I'm down for the frozen fish and the fish salad. I'll skip the rest, simply because I don't like meat much for its own taste, but rather seasoned to death and swimming in sauce. 🙈
Fish on the other hand....yum!
Thank you for tasting and sharing with us! Big hugs to you both 💖💖
Great video guys…. The food looked tasty…
Very interesting food. I have open mind when it come to food from other parts of the world, I am not sure I could do it. Thank for sharing what is traditional food.
Love your videos
Love trying food around the world.Looks good.
Such a cool place. Good luck you two 😀😀😀
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼❤️
Love this
You both are brilliant 👏 to take a chance and eat everything 😃
Thanks for video
❤️❤️❤️
Thank you. I was wondering what authentic Yakut food was like.
Thanks! Loved the restaurants. Don't they worry about a lack of vegetable and fruit vitamins? Do they take vitamin supplements? Another great video, Matt & Julia.
Most vitamins and minerals are found in all meats. For Vit C you eat berries. Don't listen to woke nutritionists. Good, looked after animal stocks, within an equally good environment provide all we need. Supermarkets are full of abused and poisoned animals.
@@djonfonsteen6331 It doesn't have anything to do with "woke nutritionists". It's been known for decades that vitamins from fruits and vegetables are necessary for the best health. And what about the high cholesterol content is those artery-clogging gut meats they were eating? That can't be healthy when daily consuming that type of diet.
Meat, nuts and berries provide all we need. Liver is a fantastic source of Iron and minerals. Siberian locals will eat high fat content food due to the cold weather and the serious hard work they need to do. Sorry Michael, Im not having a go, I'm just a tad weary of information snobs who feel our way of life is better than everyone elses. Life expectancy is dropping all over the planet due to the indirect effects of the engineered CVD bullshit and intensive farming techniques. Over time these practices reduce the amount of nutrients in all food, but mostly vegetables. In fact, due to the greed of western financiers and the corporate rats that thrive and feed on debt and profit.. they would be glad to see us all die at 60ish. As we see, the repulsive theft of inheritance and pensions has brought about massive windfalls for Rats. The very people we trusted with our wellbeing are also taking away cheap energy by blowing up gas pipelines and causing a conflict that could easily be avoided. Putting everything at risk. Sorry for the rant.. but we have to understand people are amazing.. no matter who they are and what they eat.
Mouthwatering!😋
Fun! Thanks for taking us along and keeping an open mind on new foods.
So glad you enjoyed it Bob!! ❤️🙏🏼
I've already eaten but that food makes me wish to try that restaurant. I like the museum section as well
Hi folks nothing like great local cuisine to keep you happy and warm even tho it's crazy freezing their their is warmth with the residents and food great video now your food

I like your videos thank you so much … it is so interesting ❤ … greeting from Germany 🇩🇪 😊
You two are getting so much better at making CZcams videos.
You don’t speak like Daleks either
Which is always a bonus…❤
Just amazing guys..... 🙂❤
Thank you so much Jess!!! 🥰
They know about good food in Yakutia. I would enjoy all that food. 🐠🐠
That fish salad looks like a ceviche. Great interior and atmosphere in those restaurants.
Great Yakut (?) foodie video, enjoyed the food poetry.😉
Matt, 17:17 right here it all falls apart, your facial expression speaks volumes... I give you Two Thumbs Waaay Up for giving it a second chance... 👍👍
Haha, thanks! ❤️🙏🏼
Hi there from Sacramento, California. I obviously live in the most opposite climate that you are traveling to. I just came upon your channel and I love your videos. I am a new subscriber.
Horse and raw fish and offal? Not sure I have the stomach for that much adventure.
Brilliant video , but I do admire you for trying the food . I couldn't 🤮🤮🤢🤢. Love the work you do 🌟🌟👏👏😊😊.
😀 It's funny to see you both eat. You two are very lovely and funny couple. Here also in in some coastal region of India fish daily.
Haha thank you so much! 😀❤️
How lovely.
Seeking the personal Yak saliva! Love it!
Oh my! School dinners in the uk 40 years ago put everyone off tongue, liver and offal…absolutely awful!!! I’m vegetarian so not my cup of tea but like seeing what the local cuisine is interests me. Also finding out why such meals and ingredients become popular. I do cook normally for my family but my daughter in law and myself find other options. Love your videos, please keep doing them❤
Hola Matt and Julia , I love your travel journeys, I love traveling too and when I do I look forward what are the costume, colture and how much the life cost is, some time I would love that in your videos you could share some price for food, travel and accommodation, it give me a complete picture of the place.
Thanks M@x
Hello very impressive to live in this cold. A very nice video. A subscription for you. Greetings from Vienna 😊👍
Thank you so much 🙏🏼❤️
Fascinating food variety. Nothing is recognized. Are any of these types of foods offered in USA? I wonder. As usual, good stuff you guys!!
A curious fact. In the USA the consumption of horse meat is forbidden by law. According to one version, Jewish traditions are strong in the United States, and Jews, for religious reasons, do not eat horse meat, because the horse is not a vaporous hoofed animal.
Gamey sounds like the word you're thinking of, Julia, when you're talking about the flavor of the offal soup.
I get hungry watching it!
💕 💕 💕 💕 💝 💕 💕 💕 💕
Thanks 🙏 for sharing your life story with us appreciate
Its always great to try new foods that you haven't come across before - that was really fascinating. Even if you are really open minded about trying new stuff you are bound to find one or two things you don't like - and meat with the texture of custard is stretching it a bit 🤣🤣
Nice to see you back.was hoping you or your equipment didn't happen to freeze 😉 Good video full of interesting information make you want to experience it for your self
Well done Thanks Take Care Stay Warm
Ps:
Is there any year-round agriculture (greenhouse) in the region ?¿?
Glad you enjoyed the food but i would need to be really hungry to even try it lol
That looks so 🥶❄️ cold!!
Ooooohhh yeahhh 😁❤️
Interesting cuisine, personally its probably not something I would try but interesting to see what these people eat
This is so interesting. Intestines and offal immediately makes me feel queasy but that’s because I don’t eat it due to liver for school meals 🤢. Living in such icy temperatures and having to eat what’s available is obviously normal.
Do the people not need fruit and vegetables in their diet? Can they buy from supermarket’s.
Do they eat cereal, eggs, drink milk etc?
What is the standard daily meals for the locals?
I almost can’t believe this place exists, like another planet all most.
Thanks Julia & Matt for a very enjoyable and informative blog!!
Blood sausage 🤢 😂🥶🍩🍩🍹🥰🙅♀️🙅♀️
All the food looked lovely 😊 I would try it all if I could I love ❤️ desserts 🍨 and that dessert looked yummy! I think 🤔 it’s great 👍 to try different foods from around the world 🌎 xx
Круто, молодцы!

I live in Wisconsin , USA. It's very cold in the winter. We eat soup for breakfast all the time. I don't know a lot of people who do this. But it works for my family.
I would have to change to love this food. I might like some of it now if hungry.
