-- 'Where do they get vitamins during long dark cold winters?' As you see, they prepare them ahead + a lot of vitamins comes from foil liver, arctic fish and stuff like this.
--'Why on Earth people would choose such a place for living?' They didn't choose, they just were able to survive. Sakha escaped the Mongol invasion in 13 century and fleet from area near Baikal lake. Those of them who moved more to the West or more to the right mostly died from the cold and hunger. People who arrived to the Yakutian Valley were happier because of hot summers. You see, hey, berries, cows and horses with milk. It's a Siberian Paradise, despite the harsh winters.

The “everyone looks healthy” can be the “survivor bias.” It comes up in a lot in tough conditions….from the dogs living wild in the woods around Chernobyl, to tribal peoples, to miners in old cold mines, and happens because the tough conditions weed out anyone not in good health, leaving only the fittest…..so everyone looks “healthy.” But…it is not that the conditions are good for them, or that people don’t get sick, but just that the tough conditions mean that those in poor health don’t last long, and either die or go elsewhere….leaving only the strongest.

I have been fascinated with Yakutian way of life for some time. Even regular everyday people there seem so much more strong and organised than other people from around the world out of important necessity but still somehow find a way to thrive and exist in such a beautiful but potentially deadly part of this world. What I don"t get is where they take the money from for such expensive clothes and footwear. I live in Estonia and here we know quite a lot about life in Russia. And life in rural Russia (yes, this is Yakutia, not Russia, culturally. But it is still Russia in terms of quality of life) is really hard, as far as I know and people live on very little income. I am sure there are exceptions and maybe this family is one of them but still... The mother works as a teacher, for god"s sake. Teachers are not well payed there. I have no idea how much one makes with hunting. 500 dollars for boots. I think 100 dollars for footwear is very very expensive, an ultimate limit for me. And the thing with footwear is that it holds for a few seasons then you must get new ones. Or are these reindeer boots an exception? They looked very unused, like for a show. Do they use these 500 dollar boots with all these decorations for walking around in rural village (and the stuff that covers the ground in winter in Russia/Siberia) Trust me, a Russian/Siberian village is not a very idyllic place. Hundreds of thousands of people were deported to Siberia and we know what it is like. It has not changed very much. I have a hard time trusting the idyllic picturing of Siberian life. Maybe there are some exceptions and they are picked for the videos. But in general life there is very tough and very poor

We can learn so much from these traditional and sustainable methods of insulating homes. I live in the UK, not quite -70°c but it does get cold in the winter. We should use these methods in the UK to cut down on heating bills. Very impressive, sometimes traditional methods are best!

I am from Russia and once was interested in different building styles, and why are your rural houses not like ours.
To put it shortly. You don't build log houses where the moss is most effective as insulation. Picking wild moss and stuffing it somewhere into your brick or frame houses is more expensive than using pre-made synthetic heat insulation.
The log houses are good when a house is small and its design is simple. Once the house gets bigger, using whole logs gets more expensive, impractical, and not technological. Especially in the UK.

It is clear that the local language is a Turkic language, as l hear many identical words in your videos. But this video has been very interesting especially when the little girl counted the jars that her mother prepared for winter, the numbers have progressed exactly as we count here. "Bir iki üc dört"... etc. May be one day l should lead my way to that lovely city and blend in with the locals to experience more. Thank you very much for all your videos. Greetings from Istanbul

Last year, we had what was the coldest weather I've ever experienced.
    It was -1°F with a -16°F windchill.
    It was wild to us.
It was only a few days & then it was back to normal.
We even had temperary rolling blackouts as the demand for electricity was unprecedented.
So even here in the Appalachian mountains, we can't even imagine a Winter that cold.
The rest of the Southern US doesn't even get snow

Is public education free for all the students? Up to what grade? What is their economy like? Do most men have to hunt for a large portion of their meat? This is totally amazing!! Even in the US, people on the West Coast/California think little of the risk of earthquakes, but worry about Lyme disease spread by deer ticks on the East Coast. But on the East Coast….people rarely worry about Lyme disease, which does happen there, but are scared the idea of an earthquake, or a tornado, which happens more in the flat, middle part of the US, to the point that many homes have underground tornado shelters and there are tornado warning sirens. We all get used to the risks we live with.
