- Our second Lake District campsite in our campervan - Pier Cottage Caravan Site in Coniston. A beautiful site right by the side of Coniston Water.
Moored on the pier is the rebuilt steam powered Gondola luxury steam yacht.
The steam yacht Gondola is a rebuilt Victorian, screw-propelled, steam-powered passenger vessel which is moored at Pier Cottage on Coniston Water. Originally launched in 1859, she was built for the steamer service carrying passengers from the Furness Railway and from the Coniston Railway

Coniston is famous for the BlueBird and Donald Campbells world record and the attempt to go 300mph+ which sadly ended in tragedy. There's a film starring Anthony Hopkins as Donald Campbell which was made about it called Across the Lake which we saw for the first time at Pier Cottage and it was surreal seeing Pier Cottage on the TV and out of the window of the campervan and seeing it for real. - link to video: • (1988) Across the Lake
We Also took a walk into Coniston and grabbed some dinner in the Black Bull. Also took a quick look around and even glanced up at the Coniston Old Man and took a cruise on the Coniston Launch.
A fantastic site, had a great time, we would definitely go back and highly recommended.

Thank you, watching that took me back to the early 1990s when we stayed at Pier Cottage in our campervan with our 2 young children, lovely to see it all again. It hasn't changed much just a few more pitches.

We love Coniston and have visited a number of times over the years. We more recently stayed at the Caravan Club site Park Coppice which is a much bigger site and also benefits from this beautiful area of Cumbria. Thanks for the tour 👍🏻🚐 Trev n Sue
Thanks Trev n Sue, it’s the first time we had been camping in the area, all be it I have done some walking there many many years ago. Definitely will go back 😀 Will have to try Park Coppice, I think we may have passed the entrance if I’m not mistaken on our way along. I love the memories this video has created for some people. I remember we had a little caravan with bunk beds. My sister being older always got the top bed 😡 but I learnt how to push it up and rattle her about in revenge 🤣🤣
Spent my childhood on that site. Got to drive the gondola back to pier cottage at the end of the day. Great memories, went back recently. Its barely changed 👍
It’s a lovely site, we were so lucky to get in - an amazing experience. How amazing to be able to drive he Gondola back. Bet it brings back amazing memories.

Love the Lake District. Coniston Looked stunning. Nice to have a view and seat by the lake if you want it. You had glorious weather for your stay. What a lovely place. Looks like you had a nice walk. Looks really quiet there. It’s funny when you get recognised isn’t it? Always surprises us 🤣 boat trip looked great. Don’t mind basic with a view like that. Nice 👍 😊🧙♂️
Thank you - it was an amazing area and the weather was very kind to us. I enjoyed the boat trip, next time we go I think we will hire one of the electric self drive boats for a tour around the lake. I was really surprised to be recognised in the car park and it was really nice of the chap to take the time to say hello! The facilities were adequate and clean which is all you need on a site that side as you say with that view and location. Certainly one I would love to go back to! All the best, David & Rachel. 👍
Morning guys! 💕 I loved the site for its quirkiness (not regimented lines of vans) and proximity to the lake and village. Rox had an amazing time too. And how lucky with the weather?! 🌞🌞 I loved watching the film of Donald Campbell and the Bluebird while being there & I only found out last night that my dad had gone and sat on the Bluebird as a child the year before it crashed … see doing these videos leads us to memories that we wouldn’t have known otherwise! 💕💕

It was beautiful 🤩 amazing scenery, water for Rox to swim in and a short plod for refreshments. It really was unique and quirky and watching the film looking across at the cottage topped it off! Splendid. No wonder everyone was queuing to book their next visit! A real hidden gem 💎

Lake district - simply stunning, we love it there and are booked for 2 sites later in the year. Site looked nice with great views but sadly not the facilities to match which is a shame. You also had great weather too. Thanks as always for taking the time to make and share these vlogs 👍

Just seen video. Looks a nice site then I found out it’s £35 a night in August + metered electric. Won’t be going. Way too expensive
Thanks for the comment, fair enough, I think it was £26 when I visited last year per night but that was in the spring. I've seen a lot worse cost wise at peak - some eye-waveringly expensive.

Totally agree! used to be cheap holidays not anymore that's why caravan sales are going though a bad patch at the moment!! Motorhomes sales doing a bit better because they can stay a few nights free or low cost at many locations now..
