Well done David a great video and some great advice it seems a shame that such measures have to be considered but these are the times we are in and it’s only right to protect your property and investment and a lot of it is shopping around for the install which meets your needs and also to make sure you are acquainted with the security equipment guidelines and data protection as you say well done regards to Rachel and Roxy Daniel

Hi Daniel thank you. Best be safe than sorry I say! There are so many different products but based on my inability to be organised we obviously went for a fixed system rather than one that needed is to remember to switch it on 😂

Hi David, what an amazing vlog. Well thought out and presented. Particularly in respect of the privacy issues. Like you we have a hybrid system using Cloud and local storage. Very useful to date. As a matter of interest have you come across a digital rear view mirror at all for the Ducato? The rear view mirror is something that I miss in the van. Whether or not a separate camera system I do not know. It's a pity the rear view parking camera cannot be used for this. Thanks again. Sid

Hi Sid, thank you - really appreciate the comment. I saw the new Ducatos you can order with digital rear view mirrors and know you can get them (not the fiat ones I don’t think but others) about. I was considering fitting one as additional outputs so would be handy to keep an eye when on the road. Thanks again, All the best, David 👍

David you are wrong about the data protection act and private cctv installations. If you only intend to gather data on your own private property, like at home on your gardens and driveways etc and never gather data on communal areas like public pavements and roads, then you are not affected by the data protection act. As soon as you gather data from any public space, you are then included in the data protection act and are a data controller, private or company. A sign must be affixed warning people that you are gathering data, the reason for gathering the data ( security ), freedom of access to that data on request and regular wiping of that data from storage. Secure storage of that data. You also must not collect data from any property other than your own property, without the property or land owners consent. So every time you are on a camp site, you must ask the camp site owner for his permission. I recieved a letter from data protection after a neighbour complained on the grounds of privacy. I was doing everything correctly though and nothing was illegal and was following all data protection rules. A recent case was brought by a female doctor against her neighbour about cctv and ring door cameras ( with sound ) invading her privacy. She won the case and a large sum of several tens of thousands of pounds was awarded in this civil case. So be very careful what you cctv and follow the rules. I suggest you get in touch with data protection and ask about the information leaflet, that I was sent.

Thank you - really appreciate the insight I will get in touch and get the information - It makes sense to display some sign anyway as it works as a deterrent too doesn’t it. Certainly gets regularly wiped so that bit covered. Assume given the same principle that anyone with a dashcam would be in exactly the same position as they record using the same principals? Thanks again, appreciated. All the best, David 👍

Hi David a great video and great advice as usual it seems sad that this has to be made but it’s a sign of the times it is only fair to protect your investment when you are spending so much to pay for caravan or motor home and it’s about shopping around for the best option Daniel

Never understand people pay thousands for a van or motorhome, yet to save money, don’t get additional locking mechanisms added from point of purchase or a 360 degree camera system at the same time. A 360 camera system, helps reversing into parking spaces (like modern car reversing camera systems) as well as providing that external security system. This needs to be professionally installed and currently the manufacture options are extremely limited for such a system in UK, let alone quality installers. But, you don’t buy a top race horse and then provide no shelter, cover or substance to the horse; so why do people do it to their vans and motorhomes? Defies common logic, but people will do anything to save money and security is always at the top of people’s list, to ignore and not pay for security to save a few pennies. That said, as all security considerations, you need to understand ‘Threat’. So think where you park-up, where you store the van or motorhome and what Country you are in. UK is relatively low on theft of camper vans and motorhomes or other security related safety incidences as a percentage, compared to some EU Countries. So, is the threat worth the cost if just in UK, especially if you have full insurance to replace like for like in the advent of a theft. Sadly, most people don’t understand threat till it’s to late and are often dislocated from expectations!

Thanks for the comment and thoughts, really appreciated. It’s a shame there isn’t more choice of CCTV and 360 systems as you say - Can’t beat 360 for parking and tight spots. As you say everything helps and the more you have hopefully the less likely you are to lose it. Also handy if you hear a noise outside of course.
Thanks again, all the very best, David 👍
