  • Although I've been really happy with my PRS SE Paul's Guitar, I've had some issues with intonation. So I decided to purchase the PRS adjustable stoptail bridge and do a swap.

The PRS non-adjustable bridge is an amazing piece of engineering and is BETTER than the adjustable saddle bridge ... I know it doesn't make sense but Paul knows what he's doing ...

Kluson make a locking tuner that drops straight in to the collar on the PRS. Kluson KRGLNC-3-NP Revolution Series Locking Tuners with Press-fit Bushes - 3 Per Side - Nickel
I too like the idea of changing out the bridge like you have done and adding a set of Schroeder or Tonepros locking studs to stop the bridge leaning.

Take your old screws and remove them again. Drop a small nut or basically any metal object that'll fit in there without protruding out the top still allowing you to get 2-3 turns back in with your original screw....
Now begin tightening it, you'll obviously feel resistance because you'll be extracting your original bushing. Once you've removed the bushing simply tap in your new bushing which was supplied with your new bridge. Once it's nicely bottomed out now go ahead and reassemble your new bridge 👍
That new PRS bridge wasn't cheap I'm sure, finish it properly.

The one with adjustable saddles sounds thinner and with some kind of hollowness than the solid one to my ears... I own a 2007 semihollow SE with a solid wraparround that is some kind of broken because is blended by the time and use, but even with that condition, it maintains an unique tone with a lot of twang and sustain. I'm loving it so far and looking for swapping it for another better crafted but with the same specs!

Nice, thanks for sharing. I’m considering buying one of these guitars while they’re on sale and was thinking of swapping the bridge right away as well. Also confuses me why anyone bothers with the non adjustable ones, so frustrating to intonate.

man get the locking tuners and the bridge I did that to my brand new SE 245 and gotten a huge improvement in tone and sustain. It was an incredible guitar to begin with I played and sounded a hundred times better then my S2 594 and with those upgrades It sounds even better now. it changed the sound of my midrange and treble the guitar sounds thicker and fuller now its insane guys its true what they say about a guitar being the the sum of all its parts.

What tuners (brand/ model) did you put in? That's the other upgrade I want to do. (Well, maybe the nut someday but that's down the line).

@@davlavmusic7070 Looking at the bridges before the playing, I thought it looked like a big diff. I'm still surprised over the diff in sound over yt. It sounds drastic enough to be a pickup change. I know yt comments will think it's a small diff, but that's a huge diff to me. I guess I'm super picky. Maybe I'll hold out for a used core mira if it pops up locally for me to try first.

The new posts are standard and the old posts are metric. Also, Paul has been on record saying he prefers the non adjustable version, which is why he has it on the Paul’s guitar.

New bridge intonates better and I think it added some definition to the tone. New strings? Maybe. The new posts had a different thread pitch. If you had forced it you would have ruined the inserts.
I recently purchased a DGT SE. The high E saddle was up against the tremolo screw with the string intonated. I'm not sure why they are making them with bridge placement that necessitates going to the edge of adjustment to intonate. Because aftermarket saddles have the string fulcrum closer to the edge of the saddle I should gain a 1/16" of travel on the high E with the GraphTech saddles. PRS support told me the guitar was made to intonate with 10s and I might have to modify the guitar hardware to use a different gauge (9s). Wow! A guitar that won't intonate with 9s without changing the bridge saddles. Not a good look in my opinion. However, the neck carve of the DGT SE is so good, I'm keeping the guitar and will do what I must to make it intonate.

I keep having to push this bridge back using the pins against the posts. And I am using 10s.

Got really scared when i saw you take that screw driver out. Those posts are standard thread, the ones you need are the metric thread. thought for sure you were about to cross thread your bushings.

@@davlavmusic7070 first of all a guitar can’t be perfectly in tune anyways. Just being in tune at 12 fret doesn’t mean much.

      It is understandable.
When a guitar is too in tune it sounds sterile. I mean those guitars with those strange bent frets and intonated nut.
I know it’s not your case. I am just saying.
Sometimes a guitar that makes us work and adapt to its flaws can bring a lot to the table.
      Nice guitar anyways 👏👍

i have this adjustable bridge on my PRS S2 singlecut (model prior to S2 McCarty 594 SC) and it's my favorite bridge. Feels good on the hand for muting, intonation adjustments are easy and adjusting the string height is easy. I also think this bridge design leads to a more slinky feel of the strings versus a Gibson style bridge with a a separate tail piece.
